This is a must stop restaurant when in Post. It is a family owned restaurant and looks like a dive, but don't be fooled, the food and service is excellent. The owners migrated from Greece. I tasted the Gyro. The Zaziki was one of the best I have tasted here in the US. It tasted fresh, light, and was seasoned to perfection. It was so good I dipped my fries in it. The Gyro itself was what I expected. My husband ordered the BBQ plate with two meats. I tasted the sausage and potato salad. The sausage had a nice smoked flavor and the potato salad was delicious. The restaurant offers free ice cream with every meal. The restaurant looked like it was the hangout for locals. It was very busy. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I usually get the enchilada plate the comes with beans, rice, chips and salsa( all is delicious), my husband changes up at times, but mostly gets the big Texan bbq burger and has leftovers to take home. We have also had breakfast and its just as good. We stop there when going or leaving Lubbock. read more

We drove a long day and were hungry. I looked on the road ahead and saw George's Famous Food. The reviews were very good and it sounded like a place we loved in Long Beach that had Greek food so had to try it. The restaurant is at the corner of US 380 and US 84 in Post, Texas. There is parking on the sides and a Drive-Thru window in the back. The menu is diverse with breakfast, Greek, Mexican, and American dishes, Burgers, Sandwiches, Baskets and desserts. We got the hamburger steak and the Mexican special. The hamburger came with a salad and they brought chips and salsa for the Mexican special-enough to share and take some for later. The hamburger steak was huge and came with mashed, gravy and 2 slices of garlic bread for $9. The Mexican special was chips, salsa, a hard shell ground beef taco, two enchiladas (one ground beef, one cheese) rice and beans for $9.99!! The hamburger steak was a 5 and the Mexican Dinner was a 4. Service was a 4. They were very nice but it took a while to get someone for to-go containers. My last visit was the worst yet. The food is mediocre at best and on this particular visit the air conditioner was not evidently operating very well or someone had turned the thermostat up because it was very uncomfortably warm and then there was the issue of three or four flies constantly trying to land on my food and this is something that has gone on in the past and I guess I don't understand why a restaurant cannot do something to control the Flies because most restaurants that is a health concern and so my question is also how many of those flies are landing on the food back in the kitchen and how many fly eggs are people consuming . I think the health department from somewhere needs to come and inspect this restaurant because I question it's cleanliness . No customer should have to endure swatting it flies while they're trying to eat . I am only giving a one because that's the lowest I'm able to put in when in reality they deserve a zero . read more

Eating at George's Restaurant in Post Texas this evening , I decided that I should post a review which should consider all factors involved. Consider the fact that this is West Texas not Newport Beach. We are talking down home country so the menu reflects that. For instance I'am going with ghee two pork chop dinner plate which includes salad, two chops mashed potato's vegetables and toast for the grand total of $ 16.00 and change so I'am not expecting any more other than a good country meal but I'am delighted to see that meal is far more than I have anticipated. The pork chops are thick lean and juicy and the green beans are terrific. The young lady serving me is named McKay and she is as sweet and nice as can be. Very disappointing experience overall. The service was good and our server was very attentive. The restaurant was dirty. I ordered the Gyro plate because of a recommendation on yelp. It never fails, just look for the restaurant with the most pickups, and you then have found the BEST restaurant! The waitress was very friendly and helpful! Parking lot was full when we arrived so looked at that as a good sign. It's good food typical of a diner with a side of Mexican food. I was a little worried considering the wide variance in reviews but this was pretty good. The place is clean and in good repair, our server was efficient and pleasant, and the food was fresh and tasty and came out in a reasonable amount of time. We had fried chicken (very crispy), liver and onions (solid diner dish) and chicken fried steak. All were prepared well. The accompanying mashed potatoes were real (I found actual lumps in them - no powdered potatoes here) and they were very yummy. The overcooked green beans were the only thing that really needed improvement. We noticed other diners eating impressive looking burgers so those are probably pretty good. Interestingly, the place has a lot of Greek decor and there are a couple of Greek items on the menu. While I wouldn't have pegged Post, Texas as a Greek hot spot, if the owner is Greek the gyros etc might be pretty good. Next time! read more

My church group stopped after visiting Ragtown Gospel Theater. We were able to be seated immediately and although they were packed our server was very friendly. Food was good and free ice cream for dessert. They have a little bit of everything on the menu. Old posts state they don't accept credit cards BUT they DO now!!! Decided to eat here based on Yelp reviews, gosh these reviews were right on. There was one waitress for the entire restaurant and she was friendly and attentive. With her recommendation, I ordered the liver and onions which came with mashed potatoes, green beans and a salad, all under $10, wow. Fairly thick sliced liver and it was excellent as well as everything else on the plate. My wife had a chef salad and I couldn't believe how large it was. Our vehicle broke down in town. We asked the owner there what would be a good place to eat, while he repaired our vehicle. He suggested a couple places and we chose George's. It was 2:30 in the afternoon and the place was still kind of busy... That is always a good sign! As we were paying she shouted out to the cook "learn to speak English your in America after all " Like how do you have the nerve to shout something like that out in front of paying customers. We stopped for dinner. It's the strangest restaurant I've ever been to. It is a Greek Mexican American bbq breakfast diner. That being said, the food was tasty and everyone found something they were in the mood for. Staff was kind too. Very hospitable and a good place to stop after being on the road.
