Horrible. Smells like sour milk. Prices are criminal. I wish this place would be replaced by nearly any other food store.

This little deli is a local treasure in a rural area. It is very conveniently located in the aptly…read morenamed Rum Brook Plaza between a gas station, Helen's Place (open for lunch and dinner), and a small brookside park. At lunchtime, the parking lot is like a beehive with cars and trucks of people working in the area pulling in and back out with freshly made sandwiches, salads (not green salads, but the kind made with real mayonnaise), and those huge dill pickles that used to stand around in barrels at old time delis. There are individual servings of desserts in a refrigerator, a smattering of fresh produce, fresh breads, snacks, beverages (including beer and wine, and there is even a tiny wine alcove), ice cream, birthday candles and other things you might need once in a while but can't seem to lay your hands on. In the mornings, there are house-made breakfast sandwiches in a warmer so people can grab and go. The people work hard and are kind and friendly. We stopped in on Memorial Day - along with everyone else in the area - to pick up potato salad, seafood salad, and macaroni salad, and they were prepared! It was all hands on deck at the deli, shelves were stocked, and there were extra checkout clerks. Whether it's at the unofficial kickoff to summer or on snowy day, the fine folks at Rum Brook Market are there to make your day just that much more satisfying.

I mentioned it to the girl, who already was clearly ready to go home... we walk back to show her the price it's being advertised, takes my dessert, puts it back, and says "well that's the price in the register, there's nothing I can do for you" extremely rude. I get it was right before closing, but there was no need for the miserable attitude. was passing through NH- glad I WONT be back. Working in customer service? Have a better attitude.

I was pleasantly surprised and impressed though. The broth was hearty, flavorful, and salted excellently. All the typical toppings were included and there was a good noodle to broth ratio. The bread is fresh and comes with pickled carrots, cucumber, cilantro ands a protein. You can get shrimp, pork, spicy tofu, curry chicken or teriyaki chicken. I get this banh mi sub at both the Lebanon to-go shop and this White River Junction locations. I am not sure what the differences are between Cambodian and Vietnamese fare. In Phnom Penh, Cambodia, it seemed the foods I ate were more pure and clean than the Americanized Vietnamese dishes I grew up with. The Phnom Penh restaurant and to-go shops serve food which tastes similar to Vietnamese to me. I really like the dishes I've tasted so far, including the fried rice. I did not yet try the pho, here, but it looks great. The sandwich shop is better to sit down in and relax in and enjoy your food. Also, their Khmer iced coffee is yum.

In between, people were arriving for dinner and most opted to sit in the bar room where there is a big TV, though I never heard it. In fact, given all the people pouring in, I was surprised it wasn't louder. I spied an Absolut Citron Cosmo on the cocktail menu, and that is the official Cosmo recipe, so I was quick to order it. I was thrilled when our amazing server, Brooke, delivered not only my Cosmo to the table, but a lowball glass with the "dirty" ice the bartender had shaken the drink with and thought to send to the table with the perfectly crafted cocktail! What a great touch! I can't remember the last time I ordered a Cosmo out because I got tired of being disappointed. This one was 100% on the mark. I really want to give Brooke a shout out. I am vegetarian and she was really helpful sharing how they can customize so much of the menu. I had already seen the Impossible Burger on the menu and had my mind made up, but next time I will try the pizza (though the Impossible was perfect and piping hot!). I chose sweet potato fries as my side and they were very thick yet crispy on the outside and tender in the inside. I also ordered Sara's Choice Salad, which was red and green Little Leaf lettuce topped with sliced cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, thinly sliced red onions, blueberries, and big dollops of goat cheese. The maple balsamic vinaigrette on the side was the perfect accompaniment. The coffee is FRESH. Helen's must be one of the only places remaining that dumps coffee if it sits past a certain amount of time. My mother knows her coffee, and she commented on how good it was. The atmosphere is super casual, like a rustic family cabin. Very warm and welcoming, especially on a dark, messy night. Even the patrons were wonderful. I recommend this for a casual date night, family dinner, people of all ages, or if you just want a really good takeout meal. This is a really great local gem and I think I found my kitchen away from home.
