I accompanied a family member on her surgery date. The patient chose him for two reasons, technical superiority and he's contracted with the insurance.
I am 60 years old ,the patient and I both have had our share of procedures over the years. We understand the need for compliance and to get up and move after a surgery.
Having said that , every case and situation is different. This surgeon does not allow his post-op recovery process to differ from patient to patient.
I've never been more appalled by surgery aftercare in my entire adult life! He doesn't allow you to lay down at all, not even if you are so doped up and out of it you can't see straight. We were told by the nurse that if you
lay down the surgeon will have your bed removed from the room!!
I helped "walk" the patient around the floor as instructed , even though she was being held up by myself and a C.N.A. and couldn't keep her eyes open. She clearly "wasn't with us".
I regret I didn't speak up ,but I was concerned it would make things worse for the patient.
If you have surgery by this little man, you will be sitting in the chair with both feet on the floor until 9 p.m. ,then you are allowed to get in your bed and sleep until 5 a.m.
At 5 a.m. you are awakened and rustled up to either sit in the chair (again no lying down!) or start walking because the surgeon orders that and the nursing staff clearly think he's got a screw loose. Also there is a specific way your bedside table has
to be arranged. Notebook, pencil ,2 cups and a water pitcher only. We complied with this control freak , as we didn't want our release time to be any longer than possible.
This surgery is not unusually difficult to recover from ,but there is no deviation from his post op orders even if you have been dosed with a pain killer you specifically told them you don't do well with and you are stoned out of your head-you will still walk (which in my opinion was a huge fall risk ) and sit up in that chair. Technically good surgeon, AWFUL "person". read more
