Purchased a diamond band for my girlfriend on 4/14/2011. Kathleen (George's daughter) was in town and she was excellent. I told her I was looking for a girlfriend ring. Kathleen told me that girlfriend rings normally had colored stones, in which I replied: "In my world, they sparkle". I had a good idea what I wanted (diamond band in platinum or white gold) selected a very beautiful ring (that made my GF giddy). I was in and out in 30 minutes. Great experience. We did talk about her BF racing at the Long Beach Grand Prix, or it would have taken less time. This is not the "cheapest" place, but if you like quality diamonds, they seem to provide great value. I plan on getting the engagement ring here. I purchased a ring from here before a number of years ago and was helped by George himself. I came in "just to shop". I told them what I did for a living, they may have stereotyped me as being thrifty. I had to tell them once that perhaps I wanted to look at bigger diamonds (which they obliged). I bought my wife's wedding ring at George Thompson. After having it for a couple weeks she realized she preferred to have a band because of what she does for work, so I exchanged it for a band in the same size. Oddly, the band didn't fit her. It was too big. I took it in and I had to pay $80 to have it resized. I picked up the ring a week later and to the naked eye the ring looked fine. A coworker told me George Thompson got in trouble for selling fake diamonds and being afraid that could possibly be true I went to a high end jewelry store (much higher than George Thompson) to have them check the diamonds. They were real. BUT one of the diamonds was chipped and near to falling out. I told the lady I had just had it resized and she said they did it when they resized it and she was positive that my wife didn't do it because the gold on the band was still perfect. She said it would be near impossible for us to chip the diamond anyway. So I took the ring back and they tried to blame the chipped diamond on my wife. I told them the gold on the band was still perfect and they offered to fix it free of charge. It took them 3 weeks to "fix". Here's where it gets good.. I went and picked it up and could immediately tell something was wrong with it. There were spaces in between EVERY diamond and the corner of the ring didn't look right . They told me it was normal and the spaces were fine. I told them how unhappy I was and they said I could order a new ring. I took the ring back to the jeweler that helped me and they were mortified at what they did to the ring. They actually passed the ring around to show everyone. Then they pulled up a magnifying glass and showed me that the diamond was still broken, all they did was sauter medal over it. There were spaces between EVERY diamond and in the actual band there were puncture marks which takes all the strength away from the gold itself. They then helped me take high definition pictures to take back to GT and demand my money back. I kid you not the ring actually felt lighter and smaller to all of us. When I got back to GT. Good ol' GT was there himself and I walked right up to him and told him how unhappy I was with what his company did to me. He seriously told me the ring looked fine and that it's a hand made product so all jewelry will be that way. Honestly, his excuses pissed me off even more. Luckily, he offered us a full refund after we whipped out all the high def pictures and the magnifying glass the other jewelry store loaned us. I went into GT to get a quote on a custom two diamond ring for my anniversary using stones I already had. I was quoted much, much less than a local Camarillo jeweler. I asked Sue if they could clean my other rings while we talked. She came back right away and informed me that my wedding ring was at risk of losing the diamond. The ring could not be repaired only remade. I was devastated to know that the ring I wore the past 25 years couldn't be worn. Sue was very helpful and gave me all my options. Two years ago, when my husband and I selected the stone and designed my rings, I was over the moon with joy and have since come to realize that I not only got an inferior product but that we were grossly overcharged for it. I am suffering deep emotional distress because of that. The people at the store were very nice and just ever so helpful and we thought we were getting a good product for the price point we paid. That is until we had the rings appraised by 2 other companies and it turns out the George Thompson appraisal was too high for the quality of the stone. The in house appraised of the ring gave an inflated appraisal which was laughed at by others in the industry and indicated the true value to be far less than half. Turns out the ring is EGL only and EGL vastly (and inconsistently) inflates their quality claims. You may think you are getting a better deal. In reality, you are getting overcharged for an inferior product. I I wish they had the stone independently appraised before having it placed in the setting. Not to mention the outcome of the ring was nothing like what was on the computerized sketch, the jeweler made several attempts to correct the flaws but they were all unsuccessful. Thereby, leaving me with an inferior stone which I overpaid for and a flawed design and it is going to cost me $1,500 to have the ring remade, plus $200 to have the ring appraised. The reason you buy a diamond from a reputable jeweler like George Thompson is that you have peace of mind you are getting the quality you are paying for. Unfortunately, the EGL stone George Thompson sold me for the such a high amount does not do that. In fact, its the opposite. The EGL certificate he gave me for the stone only fooled me consumer into overpaying for an inferior product. I was not given the option to choose between EGL and GIA stone for my $10,000 budget. I wanted to get my mom a pair of earrings for her birthday and since I keep hearing about George Thompson Diamond on the radio and tv I finally decided to check it out since I was in the area. It was a complete waste of my time, from the moment I walked in I knew I was going to pay an arm and a leg even though I had more than $3000 to spend. When I asked to see the hoop earrings I got a very small selection that was absolutely way too small hoop earrings that were marked at outrageous prices. When I asked if they had anything under $1000 (like their add had shown) they showed me a simple white gold hoop that was still marked way above $1000 and this was during a sale. Went today to pickup an engagement ring for my girlfriend today. I started with a call to George Thompson after seeing the ring online. A woman named Paula answered and helped me with my question. She was able to find the ring I was looking at already set and ready to go. But she told me to come down because I really need to see it in person, hold it and check out other rings before I make the purchase. So I picked up my mom and we drove down to the store. When we first went in looking for rings, I found the one I loved. Unfortunately, at the time my husband was not able to apply for credit and we told the salesman so we weren't able to get it. Couple months later, we went back and asked to see the ring again as my husband had half to put down and was going to ask if he could at least hold it. It was only then did they say we could have put the original on a lay away payment plan. Yea they never said that the first time and the ring was gone! We were able to recreate the ring I liked and my husband paid it off and everything is suppose to be great! Well I get the ring and I'm like what's that huge spot on the side? It's an inclusion that wasn't in the first ring I saw but then they didn't bother to show us this diamond or tell us about the inclusions...thanks. This place is lacking in customer service I feel like. I'm only giving two stars because they have good pricing but I'm not too happy that they sold us a diamond without even asking if we were aware of the flaws and if we wanted to look for something else. My wife and I stopped by here yesterday just to browse their ring selection. We already have rings from our wedding but we always said that someday when we can afford it we would get nicer matching ones. We were helped by a woman who talked a mile a minute and kept talking about how my wife should be getting a certain diamond setup and not the one she actually wanted. When my wife would make a comment about something she liked the woman would sit there and point out why it was inferior and not worth buying. When we did finally figure out a diamond and ring combo she seemed annoyed that I actually wanted to try some rings on myself. We were the only customers in the store so it wasn't like we were taking her away from another sale. I found a ring that suited me and we found a beautiful matching one for my wife and we wanted to know the price so the woman helping us proceeds to use her little calculator and tell us that she will give us a "discount" and that we can have the two rings out the door for 6 grand. Woah my car is worth less than that. After I recovered from my minor heart attack I realized that she assumed we were buying something that day. When we asked her about financing options her whole demeanor changed. She got all snotty and said something about layaway or GE finance and walked away to do something else. Both my wife and I felt very pressured and almost uncomfortable so we said something about maybe doing the layaway option and how we would want to wait till next payday and the woman just gave us a dirty look and wrote some info on the back of a card and shoved it at us and went back to her desk. Apparently if you are the only customer in the store in the middle of the day you better be prepared to spend thousands of dollars right then and there or you will get an attitude. Trust me my wife is worth any priced ring out there...but I can tell you when I do eventually get her a ring that expensive I will not be getting it here. read more

After my Dad & I drove right past GT, my CP3O voiced Waze informed us of our mistake , oh dear me. Once we found our way in, we were greeted at the door by the security guard, and then approached by a sales clerk, we told her we were looking for a Christmas present but wanted to browse first, she was polite and gave us our space to look. George Thompson has been my parent's jeweler of choice for over twenty years, GT was my Mom's introduction to diamonds when they were located in Oxnard, and this is where her cherished diamond pendant was purchased, one she wears to this day and it still looks like new. As my Dad and I looked at rings, he told me that the difference between department store gems quality and a real jeweler are staggering, but he realized that cost has a lot to do with that, but he wanted to get my Mom something special for Christmas. We were then greeted by a older gentlemen sipping on hot coffee, My Dad knew it was George Thompson and they reminisced on the old store in Oxnard, Mr. Thompson went on to add that they would be celebrating their 16th year at the Camarillo Store in the coming year. After we told him what we were looking for, he showed us a few rings and we compared the less expensive ($500 to $600) to the larger carat rings ($1000 and up) . We came across a beautiful 3 stone which came to a little over a carot of diamonds, it was higher end, but if you'd seen it you would've wanted it too. As someone who doesn't wear a lot of jewelry, I told my Dad that for me I've always felt a ring like that should be given by the man whose given his heart to me and mine to him, and that Mom would love it coming from him. That sold my Dad, he purchased it and he wrapped it up in a large box, thinking he was going to surprise her... but wouldn't you know, she guessed it before she even opened the box. Thankfully George Thompson told my Dad that if my Mom didn't like the style and the ring wasn't worn, she could exchange it. The ring came with a free sizing and a warranty, they also advise to take the ring in every other month and have it cleaned and they check on the setting to make sure the diamonds are in good shape, I think that's worth paying a little extra when you have a little added care to your jewelry. I'll try to make this quick. Now my situation is a work in progress, there is still room to make things right. Although after my visit to the store today I'm extremely disappointed and offended. My husband and I went to GT for the first time in 2013 we found essentially what was my same exact ring just bigger. We spoke with Sue on that first visit and I held on to her business card for over a year and a half but I felt so strongly about giving her our business once we were ready to buy. We visited GT for the second time in September 2015, our wedding was November 2015. On this visit we were only able to afford a matching band for my engagement ring and a wedding band for my husband. As we were picking out a band for my ring the phrase "oh that bands diamonds will look too large next to your small ring", I must have been told a variation of that line 4x. I looked past it assuming that the blunt nature of the comment was just to be helpful. We ended up putting the two band on layaway. Total of $1,600 for both. Not their highest sale buy for your average Joes it's significant. A week before my wedding I made my 3rd trip to GT, I dropped off my wedding ring to be soldered to the band and to have the white gold redipped. I drop the rings off with the older gentleman who has greeted me everytime I've visited GT, he wrote me up and charged me $75 to redip the ring. Returned two days later to get my set and to have my husbands engraved. A lady named Kam delivered my ring to me. ( in complete honesty she did not introduce herself although when I returned today I recognized her and her beautiful ring she wore from the first time I met her) she did not disclose and details of what happened to my ring she didn't even look over the ring before handing it to me. I did not wear my ring until our wedding day. It took me a few weeks to accept the idea that my ring had been altered, although there is no denying it. My center stone looks different, the prongs, or setting that holds my center stone is visibly different. The tips of the prongs get caught on long sleeves. The constantly scratch people and the soldering job is half assed. My two rings aren't even aligned straight. I returned today to show them my ring and show them before and after photos. (I've worn my engagement ring for 4 years prior to getting married) Kam and another lady who didn't introduce herself, but I believe her name was Connie, they looked at my photos, one lady even dared to say there was no difference. No apology or tad of sympathy, no ounce of compassion. The level of customer service was ridiculous. They handled my ring as though it came out of a gum ball machine. She placed it on the counter and walked away. They offered to smooth the tips of the prongs and fix the shitty solder job. I asked them to pull my records, I still would like to know why my ring was altered to begin with. They said they'd have to get the records from their storage. I was not provided a time frame to be contacted back nor was I asked for my contact information. Kam did however request that I send her my photos to her email. I did, not sure she got them I never received a confirmation she received them. The over all attitude towards me was carless. It's extremely disheartening to be treated in such away and have my ring looked at as thought it wasn't worth their attention. Maybe if I wore a larger ring they would have payed me more attention. Disappointed and will most definitely refrain from sending customers their way. ...... so much for keeping it short huh. read more

This has been the worst experience ever. Their customer service is awful. My husband bought me a custom ring. I needed to get it sized and when I went in to size my finger they were very unhelpful. She did not used a ring mat so had both of my rings being dropped and picked up on the glass counter. Decided to up-size. So I had to go back and get it sized again! They apologized to my husband for the poor service the first time. And claimed they didn't know it was a new piece. So be careful if you take any "old" pieces there. They may treat them worse. When I called to ask if it was ready the second time. Not only that. I have to go in every 6 months to keep my warranty valid, so I get to experience this over and over again. read more

After seeing his TV commercials, we decided to check out his store in search of our wedding bands. Upon arrival we were greeted and tended to by the sweetest sales person, Misty. She worked with us so helpfully and patiently. The selection was very tasteful and gorgeous. We found beautiful pieces at competitive prices. We are very satisfied with our purchases! we bought all three of our wedding rings at GT diamond. My one carat solitaire is beautiful and the husband's band is also nice. Very good deal on the solitaire. The sales person showed it to us saying it was a great deal. and it charmed my eye, so we got it. We are going there today to have a look at what they have. I never once felt forced into buying anything and everyone seemed genuine with wanting the best for their customers. Even after a small misunderstanding with what I wanted done with my ring they gladly fixed the problem, and went out of their way to ensure my happiness of the product they had already sold me for no extra cost.
