A nice little cafe in Swansea overlooking oyster bay…read more We stopped in for lunch on our drive from Hobart up to Freycinet and got inside just before the rain. The menu is pretty large for a small place with burgers, some sAndwiches and a couple of salads. They also have a variety of pizza which sounded good to us. We chose a pepperoni pizza which had a great, super thin cracker-like crust and a Cesar salad and a pear cider-it was the perfect lunch. No sooner then we got inside, the heavens opened and it got quite rainy-so our timing was good. Food-wise this cute spot is maybe 3.5 star but the food arrived super quick and the young staff was very friendly so bonus points for that. There are only a few spots in which to eat on the main road through Swansea and this fit the biLl for us.

(it was called something else) I didn't look at the price of it till i paid $32.95 for his and $19.95 for mine. My pancakes were those golden pancakes that you buy at woolies, and it was burnt on the underside. The fruits were okay, fresh, the grapes were a little brown. I just couldn't get over the fact that a restaurant would serve pancakes that you would only buy if you couldn't be bothered to make them. It's so cheap to make a pancake batter and so much nicer. I wouldn't recommend stopping here. I'd hold out till you find something else. I wish I'd had the pancakes at the berry farm up the road. I didn't take pic of the big breakfast, it was okay.....just okay, on the plate there was a small grilled frankfurt instead of an actual sausage, Which was weird. $50+ for a really bad breakfast.

Okay, that's not true, you can know some more stuff. Like the fact that once I discovered the Gallina pizza, I realised all my pizza dreams had come true and I would never want for another pizza topping combo again in my life. (I know you're curious: the Gallina's chicken, BBQ sauce, onion, mushrooms, pineapple and cheese aka all my favourite things). The Gallina makes for some crazy good morning-after pizza as well (because every true pizza connoisseur knows that the true height of a pizza's glory is in its cold next-day form, unless it's primarily a cheese pizza). The pizzas come in a range of different sizes, small to medium to large to family. The family pizza is daunting. Small is perfect for one person. I normally get a medium so I can have breakfast pizza the next day (for reasons stated above). I've never eaten in at Paesano, because (as other reviews have mentioned) it's a bit cramped for dining in. Also, I don't live too far away so it serves me well to call up to order my takeaway, then take a meander up the hill (checking out the awesome Hobart views en route) to collect my pizza. The only problem is then not eating (all of) the pizza before arriving home again. If only Paesano's delivered...

We dined here for lunch while tooling around Tasmania on a four-night driving trip, late December…read more2019. The views of the water and the nearby beach are stunning. The restaurant feels very casual and relaxed, but the food that we sampled is very good. TBH - we didn't really order that much off their menu, but here's what we ate: We ordered a dozen oysters - they were well-priced at $2.50 per oyster (well, it was cheaper for a dozen) -- whereas we'd paid $4.50 per oyster in Hobart (ouch!) Oysters were local - from somewhere near Freycinet (if I recall correctly) which is fairly close to Bicheno anyway. The oysters were absolutely superb! Extremely fresh, not too briny, small (though slightly bigger than Sydney Rock Oysters - I don't like the big meaty varieties), really delicious and so creamy! We were blown away by their quality. I remarked to our server ( owner / manager ?) how wonderful they tasted and she replied "It's because we shuck them to order," meaning, not in advance... Lovely! I have to mention the outstanding bottle of wine we enjoyed with the oysters - Freycinet Wineglass Sauvignon Blanc (2017 I think?) -- also local, and one of the most delightful Sauv Blancs I have ever tasted! No joke. (And we were in NZ prior to Tassie...!) So, the pairing of this crisp, very fruity and fragrant wine with the fresh oysters was truly sublime. We weren't actually that hungry so we asked if the kitchen could put together a large garden salad for the two of us to share, which they happily did, and it was lovely and light with grated carrot, sliced cucumbers & tomatoes, plus lettuce (natch) and a nice vinaigrette dressing. I forget what they charged us for that, but it definitely was reasonably priced. Such a simple and casual meal, yet so memorable. Truly one of the highlights of our trip around Tassie (which included a very posh NYE degustation dinner at Peppers Cradle Mtn Lodge - review to follow) - so that's saying something! Highly recommended for a pleasant lunch so you can enjoy the vista. Sunset would be a nice experience here, too.

The kitchen closed at 4pm and they were quite strict when those waiting in line were not able to order anything other than what was shown ready in the case. They sourced much of the seafood from their own farms so the shellfish was going to be quite fresh. The menu showcased selected preparations for their oysters, mussels, scallop and abalone from the kitchen besides a fish burger and fish of the day. We ordered and then were handed a pager. Seating was all open air under a covered patio. A huge cooler supplied water. Pickup from the kitchen was outside facing the parking lot. Bathrooms were away from the main building near the outside food refrigerators. Our first dish was the dozen raw oysters. We actually got 14 which was a bonus! They were good sized, fresh and tasted a little like the sea. A squeeze of lemon was all we needed as we slurped them up. The bowl of natural mussels was huge and I stopped counting the shells as they overflowed the shell bowl. We opted to de-shell everything and let the mussels soak in the broth. Rich and tasty. Our final dish was the abalone three ways. Each was cooked perfectly with our favorite flavors of (1) saffron and (2) herb but the miso butter seemed a bit off. Would return next time we're visiting.
