A nice little cafe in Swansea overlooking oyster bay. We stopped in for lunch on our drive from Hobart up to Freycinet and got inside just before the rain. The menu is pretty large for a small place with burgers, some sAndwiches and a couple of salads. They also have a variety of pizza which sounded good to us. We chose a pepperoni pizza which had a great, super thin cracker-like crust and a Cesar salad and a pear cider-it was the perfect lunch. No sooner then we got inside, the heavens opened and it got quite rainy-so our timing was good. Food-wise this cute spot is maybe 3.5 star but the food arrived super quick and the young staff was very friendly so bonus points for that. The only thing going for this place is the view. We came for a late breakfast. I ordered the pancakes and hubby ordered a big breakfast. (it was called something else) I didn't look at the price of it till i paid $32.95 for his and $19.95 for mine. My pancakes were those golden pancakes that you buy at woolies, and it was burnt on the underside. The fruits were okay, fresh, the grapes were a little brown. I just couldn't get over the fact that a restaurant would serve pancakes that you would only buy if you couldn't be bothered to make them. It's so cheap to make a pancake batter and so much nicer. I wouldn't recommend stopping here. I'd hold out till you find something else. I wish I'd had the pancakes at the berry farm up the road. I didn't take pic of the big breakfast, it was okay.....just okay, on the plate there was a small grilled frankfurt instead of an actual sausage, Which was weird. $50+ for a really bad breakfast. read more

Our group were lucky enough to eat dinner & breakfast here on our long weekend road trip around Tassie. The service was fantastic and the food was tasty and generous in portion. I had the scallop pie for dinner & the Eggs Benedict for breakfast - both were fantastic :) The coffee was also pretty good (which is high praise coming from a Melbourne local). We met the owners at dinner and they were kind enough to let us taste some wine they were considering for the restaurant with them! I can't recommend this place highly enough, if you are in the area it is worth stopping here for a meal or quick drink on the balcony to take in the ocean views. read more

Very disappointing. The place is well located and has a great view. Portion size was also very good. I had the quinoa fish. The batter was fine but the fish was inconsistent. One piece was tender and juicy the other tough. The vegetables were undercooked making them hard going to eat. The mix of sauce on the vegetables didn't seem to work either. My partner had the calamari which was tough and had parts of the skin / membrane still on it. She was pulling it from the calamari. The salt and pepper batter wasn't great either. read more

We were driving from Hobart to Launceston via Swansea and decided to stop at the Saltshaker Restaurant's takeaway. We tried to place an order for hot food before 2.30pm but were informed the kitchen didn't take orders after 2.30pm. We didn't argue, but the next customers through the door were able to order hot food from the kitchen. No apology was given, the chef who allowed the next order knew we had wanted hot food, and made no apology or offer to remedy. Would not really recommend the cafe to anyone as it has lousy service. read more

This one have great view and probabl y the biggest restaurant on Swansea town. We ordered seafood chowder as starter，curry scallop pie w/ chips and salad and kid's pasta，all of them are delicious and worth the money paid. Good choice if you are on a road trip and stop here. read more

This restaurant is small and can get busy all at once since there are so few restaurants in the area. I am giving two stars because the service was very good but the food was not impressive at all. I ordered the Margherita pizza and my husband ordered the fish and chips. As for the pizza, I will say the crust was quite nice...crispy. The pizza itself was bland, bland, bland. Even with red pepper flakes. Lots of red pepper flakes. My husband said the fish and chips were good, but he's not a particularly picky eater. Don't waste your time or money. Food was mediocre at best and disappointing at the price point. $21.90 for an "open steak sandwich" apparently containing eye fillet (the tiniest portion of meat received in any steak sandwich I've ever purchased). Limp salad drowned in mayo, steak about 4mm thick, melted cheese, chunks of onion, decent chutney and two puny pieces of bread. Semi sun-dried tomatoes were pretty good. Chips had been cross flavoured with whatever else had been fried in the same oil. Asked for water and was offered "Mount Franklin or sparkling" per the menu. While I appreciate free tap water makes the proprietor no money, the practice of buying water in a bottle goes against my principles of avoiding waste where possible. I was particularly surprised by this policy given several patrons appeared to be drinking alcohol only. Service was perfunctory. Table was not set nor wiped down prior to arrival and not rectified. After meals arrived, waiter returned with cutlery and begrudgingly brought napkins upon request. The greatest level of interest and kindness shown was upon payment. Happily, after leaving much of the food uneaten at Saltshaker, we continued on to Kate's Berry Farm where the food and service were faultless. read more
