This was a great find! So covenient and easy to take a kayak trip where you rent. We did not have to haul the boats. While paddling the inlet we saw many jumping fish and birds including an eagle. Very nice people.

Great little hidden gem! Kayak rentals, all your bait shop needs and the space is wonderful to fish, launch or hang out. Adam and Janine are great people and they run a great business!

We were looking for a kayak adventure away from the touristy area in St Augustine and this fit the bill perfectly. Genung's is a locally owned business with prices less than other places nearby. I called ahead to reserve two tandem kayaks for our family of 4. They checked the tides to make sure the time we were planning to arrive was good, and it was. When we got there, it didn't take long for them to outfit us in life jackets, and paddles sized appropriately for us and our 7 and 4 year old boys. A quick lesson on the best way to use the paddles, and directions for where to go, and we were off. We spent just over an hour, paddled across the river, through a marsh, and then back. If it wasn't so hot, we could have spent more time out there, but since it was the middle of summer, it was plenty of time. Highly recommend for anyone looking for kayak trips or any of the other services they offer.

I do need to say up front that I have never kayaked in my entire life, so my review is from the…read moreperspective of an absolute novice. I've always wanted to try it, but it's one of those hobbies that seem to have a couple of barriers. Like, friends have invited me, but I didn't have a kayak to join them. Or I've looked at some of the tour groups, but I never wanted to be that first-timer that kind of holds up the rest of the group, y'know? When I found out my friend Kelly was going on this tour and she had only been kayaking once before, I figured that whatever happened, there'd be at least one other person in the same predicament. I am so glad I went!! The tour was PHENOMENAL. The tour guides bring everything you need - kayak, paddles, and life jackets, so you just have to drive yourself to the location and bring some water & snacks. There was some instruction before we all got in the water, but it's definitely one of those things where you just need to do it for a while before "getting" it. (I'm still not 100% that I got it, but I was way better at the end than at the beginning.) It was a smallish group, about 7 or 8 of us, and we were the only kayakers I saw the entire time we were on the creek. I only ran into two people (fortunately, the people I knew!), and only got stuck on a log once. But I got unstuck and learned to watch out for logs. The tour guides gave some follow-up instruction when I needed it (turning is hard), and the other folks in the group were super-nice and not once did I feel like I was THAT person slowing anyone down. You just kinda paddle forward, and sometimes run into logs if you need to stop. It gets easier after that. I saw 30 million turtles sunning themselves on the side of the creek, a baby snake merrily swimming along, some swallow-tailed kites, an orchid native to NE Florida, and someone tried to point out a baby alligator, but I did not see it. The weather was perfect and the setting was gorgeous. It was so blissfully quiet, as well. A lot of St. Augustine is about getting stuck in traffic, and that gets old real quick. Coming out to this quiet little pocket of uninterrupted nature was exactly what my brain and my soul needed. Two thumbs up, five stars, A++, highly recommend, would (and will!) go again!

BEST $60 we have spent in a long time!…read more We went to the Matanzas Inlet to enjoy some sun & fun in the water, not realizing there were water activity rentals. So we iinquired about the kayaks for rent. It was only $30 an hour, so we rented it for 2 hours, and had a blast. My wife, son and I took turns paddling around the inlet, which was a first for us. The last time I kayaked was in Hawaii, and I had to haul that kayak from the store, and then a couple miles to the beach. Hurricane Watersports is already on the water, so all we had to do was strap on a vest, unhook the kayak, and we were off paddling to our hearts content. Super super cool. They also had these HUGE trampolines, stand up paddle boards, and a bunch of other leisurely lounging floating devices for rent. They make it super easy to have an even better time on the water. Did I mention the AWESOME music they were playing? They had live music that played on their rooftop, further adding to the ambiance of good times by the sea shore. I don't know how often they do live music, but we felt very fortunate and enjoyed the reggae vibes. I also got a chance to chat with Jeffrey the owner, and he is just a good dude. It was truly a pleasure renting from him, and I anticipate many more rentals down the road. Thanks Jeffrey & Hurricane Watersports for a wonderful time. PS. They also have food available. Tacos, Hot Dogs, and Burgers. I was very tempted to indulge, but we already had plans for dinner. Next time for sure!

Now the pros: Within 10 minutes you're out on the water. The employees are laid back and make the process simple. You can't beat the price for an hour or two of adventure. The cons: The staff don't give much instruction. They tell you when to be back and that's about it. The gentleman recommended which direction to head in but didn't say how far you could travel in that direction or anything to be aware of. He also didn't say what I know, which is the one direction has quite a strong current and the other doesn't. I saw a couple who clearly had no experience paddle boarding struggle to get out onto the water. Though it's a public creek it would be nice if the company swept the route daily to pick up trash. I kayaked by several boards with nails sticking up and lots of plastic bottles.

They were building a new restroom facility when we visited (Memorial Day 2017). There's also a picnic area with grills. There are classroom facilities too which can also be rented for meetings. The building has wifi. This building is separate from the other building with the cafe and store inside, which is closer to the beach. We will definitely rent another tandem kayak from here next time we camp at Anastasia State Park. The kayaking takes place over oyster beds so you CANNOT get out of the boat without injuring yourself.
