Crazy bad service. After having the secretary text and let me know they were coming, I noticed the text had the wrong address. I called and they rescheduled. The day of the service I called and asked if they would be coming as there was a windy snow storm happening, they said they would. The tech showed up, sat in his truck for at least a half hour, didn't bother to check in with me and did his work and left. Well the storm knocked out the power and our generator that was serviced didn't start and left us in the dark with no well water or heat. I called Gentech and was told I needed a new control board and they would get me a quote. I asked they why I wasn't informed the generator had major problems since I had stayed home to meet their tech , they didn't have an answer for that. I told them the generator was working 2 days before when we lost power, they agreed to send a tech. The tech came, this time I went out and watched him work. I told the tech I thought it was the battery cable as the noise when it tried to start made the ticking sound a car does when the battery is dead. The tech cleaned the battery terminal and the generator started. Needless to say I was pretty upset as the office had told me the generator needed a new control panel and I felt they were trying to cheat me out of at least a couple of thousand dollars. I placed two follow up calls to speak with the owner, I never received a call. Today a tech showed up out of the blue, I told him to get off my property and called the office, expressed my frustration about them trying to rip me off and fired them. The last service a few months ago, the tech forgot to flip the switch back to automatic and we lost power , luckily my electrical contractor told me to check all of the switches and I was able to get it started myself. I'm a retired homebuilder and bought many generators thru my electrical contractor from this company along with the service contracts. I have had many complaints about them but was assured by my electrical contractor they were fine. Advise; stay away and find another company to service your generator equipment. read more

In my opinion STAY AWAY from Gentech operating out of New Windsor, NY. They "repaired" my generator for $595 and then I paid $363 shortly thereafter for annual maintenance, thinking I'm done. But they now claim that, even immediately after the repair and maintenance, I still need to pay another $1394 in repairs in order for the generator to work. When I called to question this, the person was quite rude. In my opinion this company is dishonest and not trustworthy. read more

Nothing but trouble with my generator which is only a few years old. every time we use it for a little while it conks out. now it broke completely and they said the company knew there was a problem with their motors and it would be replaced free. Free plus over a 1000 for the work. Beware of this company! read more

Bad experience. Was a previous costumer. We did not purchase or have a maintenance agreement with them.The following year they showed up at my house and performed a service that was not requested. There was no confirmation that they were coming. Generator was not operable and was not hooked up to the house. They want us to pay for their mistake. Be careful. read more

I was using GenTech to service our home standby generator. When it surprisingly didn't work on a power outage, it took a technician over 3 hours to figure out the problem was the electric panel. The service person was on the phone the entire time and obviously had no idea what the problem was. Of course I was charged for 3.5 hours due to the poorly trained serviceman. When the replacement came, it took the serviceman about 30 minutes to pop in the part and test the system. Remarkably, I was charged for another 3 hours of service! When I complained, I was told that other things were included like travel (about 20 minutes tops in normal traffic - and honestly, do I pay for him to get to his next job?) and, unbelievably, they add in the time to prepare the bill. This came to $700 for this clown to come out. Stay away! read more

Do not use. Not trustworthy. They sabotaged my generator once it passed its 5 year mfg. warranty just so they could try to sell me a new one. Said it needed new parts and wouldn't repair it without first getting my credit card. Then said the new parts didn't correct problem and it needed additional parts and then recommend I purchase a new generator. Connected a different company who got it working, said the problem was an incorrect spark gap and incorrect programming. read more

I called Gentech in regard to my disabled parents 38 month old Generac generator not working. I was told by Alexa and Mitch at Generac the relay in the transfer switch is covered for 5 years. They instructed me to call Gentech in New Windsor, NY. The sales people would not set an appointment to correct the condition without a credit card on file. Credit card was given and Tech showed up to make the repair. He stated the relay should be under warranty due to the 5 year warranty and only 24 hours on the unit. Exactly one month later I received a credit card bill from my Chase Acct. from Gentech for $434.00 for the repair. I figured at least I would get a bill in the mail or a phone if it wasn't covered I called and requested a written bill from Gentech 2x with no response! Would not recommend this company nor Generac generators!! read more

Gentech Ltd. has been servicing our generators for 25 years now faithfully. Our generators has been in tip top shape because of them. All I can say is wow, seems like some other people do not know how to read an agreement between two parties, or how to read a owners manual for that matter! Then they complain to the internet to make themselves feel empowered, first world problems huh? Gentech Ltd. is in the top 30 of 5000 Generac dealers in the USA. They service about every emergency 911 radio tower and 911 call center's generator system in the Hudson Valley because they are reliable. Not trustworthy! Do not waste time with these snakes! These guys are only interested in condemning anything over 5 years old to make a sale. They made up fictitious failures with our generator and said we need to replace it. Another company came in, took the time to diagnose and actually fixed our generator. Do not use Gentech! Nearly two years ago, we bought a house with a Gentech-serviced generator. The first time the power failed, the generator did not work. We called Gentech, which confirmed it had serviced the generator earlier in the year. Gentech sent a technican, who looked the generator over, confirmed it wasn't working, said he would need to order a part, and left. About two weeks later, he returned with the part to fix the generator -- about a one-hour job. For this, Gentech tried to bill us more than $1000 -- $300 for the first 15-minute visit and $800 for the actual fix! They claimed they had a three-hour minimum for any call ($285+tax), no matter how long it actually took, and whether or not they actually performed any repair -- something they never disclosed before sending the technican. We told them that we would pay the $800 bill but under no circumstances would we pay for the first call. In fact, I thought the second bill was also padded, but we had just moved into the house and I didn't want to argue. The next year, when I told them that we would absolutely not renew our contract with them, they told me that if I did not they would send the $300 bill -- which they had agreed to tear up about nine months before -- to a collection agency. Now, almost a further year later, they have done so. Congratulations, Gentech. Your have earned a lifelong disgruntled customer who will make sure to spread the word about your busines practices both online and to the Better Business Bureau. read more

Similar experience to Alex B. Bought a house with a Gentech serviced generator about a year ago. Continued the service contract when we moved in. We lost power about a month ago for a few days and the generator was causing the carbon monoxide alarm to go off in our basement. I called Gentech about the problem and they said I should absolutely have it looked at. (It was serviced by them a few months earlier). They came to the house the next day, told me the generator was giving off the carbon monoxide because the propane tank was low, and charged me $308. They never mentioned during our phone conversation that the visit would cost that much, and never suggested checking the propane tank over the phone. When I called back about the $300 bill they told me about the 3 hour minimum labor fee which was in my contract. So, I guess shame on me for not reading the contract, but $300 to come to my house and tell me the propane is low is a rip off. They did take a whopping $45 off my bill when I complained.
