SAFT is the best. We had a problem with meter bank. They responded in an hour. We are in the Town of Poughkeepsie. Everything had to be replaced. A fire hazard if not replaced. So I'll start out this review by saying I picked this company because 1) they state they service the Hudson Valley and 2) they were the highest rated electricians on Yelp. Having said that, I'll be completely transparent in this long-winded story to explain why I rated them the way I did. The day before Christmas my lights began flickering whenever we turned on the microwave or the washing machine went on. It progressively got worse to the point where we had to call an electrician. I found Saft who said they service the Hudson Valley. They sent one of their electricians out who was able to see the problem but was unable to rectify the problem. He said my breaker was fine, there were no blown circuits, and all my wiring was tight. Then he handed my wife a bill for $416. Now I understand that he ran a test or two and he had to come out for a service call.... but $416 later he left my house with without identifying or fixing my electrical problem Cut to 10 days later when I lost all power in half of my house. I called them back and told them that I now had a larger problem. This time the owner drove out, spoke to me, and looked at my breaker box. He then realized that there was some issue with a device that splits half of the power in the breaker and that it needed to be replaced. I spoke to him about the fees and he explained to me that when they respond to any service call outside of 10 miles from their office they automatically charge $385. Inside of 10 miles is $150. My problem is NOWHERE on their website (that I've yet to find) does it state that and when I got the phone call to verify the first appointment from the owner himself, he also failed to tell me that I would be charged $385 just for them to drive to my residence. Had he told me this I would have told him never mind I will find another electrician closer. I ended up spending $1,000 at the end of the day and he told me that he would take off $100 off because of the first visit. That still means I paid $316 for them to come out and tell me "I don't know how to fix your problem". I was happy that the owner was able to figure out what my problem was and fix it in a timely manner, but I was not happy at all with the way the first service call went down. read more

5 stars all the way!!! I was trying to take apart a light fixture hanging over my kitchen island in order to clean it, the light fixture wound up blowing the circuit breaker and wouldn't go on. Called Saft immediately (I know when to call a professional!) John said he could sent someone in a couple of hours-same day!! He himself came out, called for a helper and very shortly had the whole problem RESOLVED!! AMAZING!! SAME DAY!! On 3/12/2024 We had an emergency. High winds cause a telephone pole to break in half and our service wirers were ripped off our House. We made many calls to different electricians and left many voice massages. We were feeling like we would not be able to get this problem fixed any time soon until we called Saft Electric. They call us right back. We sent them pictures and they came with in a half hour to help us. They assessed the issues and explained what needed to be done. They replace all the wires and the service meter and had us ready to be reconnected to the Pole. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. If I could give Saft Electrical Service more stars I would. We are building a new construction home but we using reclaimed 1850s logs. It's not a straight forward type of build. The logs are irreplaceable so it needed to be done right and on the first try. Electrical work is something we did not want to leave to amateurs. After asking around town Saft continued to come up as a recommendation. For years I have been trying to find a good electrician and it was like finding a needle in a haystack. Once I reached out to John Saft, he arrived for the initial appointment on time, took plenty of notes, and followed up with an estimate and date within 24 hours. His team was also very respectful, knowledgeable, tidy and did an excellent job. We were able to talk through scenarios as to not disturb the 1850s logs like running all the electrical in the cement slab before we poured it. We have since had Saft do other work for us. They will remain our go-to for all things electrical. I would strongly recommend Saft Electrical Service to anyone looking for quality work done by professionals. read more

I had an issue with a buried power line coming into my house from the pole. Power company had to shut me off because it was a potential hazard. It's January, 7PM, 15 degrees out and I have a well so need power to stay here or risk pipes bursting if not. Called John and he reshuffled his work load to come out the next morning. His guys, Matt & AJ arrived at 8 am 30 minutes earlier than promised. Using expensive testing equipment that very few residential electricians have, they identified where the the power line ran underground and then where the fault occurred. They were professional, helpful and efficient. Having the right equipment for the job is key and not many Electricians have this type of testing equipment. Combine that with professional employees and very responsive service you have a great company that I highly recommend. read more

I called this company yesterday for an issue I was having with my washing machine outlet. It just stopped working despite switching the outlet from a regular outlet to a GFCI outlet. We just couldn't figure it out. John, the owner, had an appointment scheduled for 8:30 the following morning (today) with Rob the electrician. Rob called me at 0730 and told me he could be here even earlier than anticipated! He showed up ready to work. He went upstairs and tested the outlet. There was power to it but no power to the neutral. He went to the circuit breaker and found the problem. A loose or non existant screw was preventing the neutral wire from connecting to the box. Simple fix. Put a screw in and all is right in the world. He was here 30 minutes. The cost was very reasonable. $140 for the site visit plus labor and supplies took me to $151. Glad it wasn't something major. read more

I cannot comment on actual work done. However I will comment on customer service. They were called twice I left two messages. Received call back two weeks later wanting to know if I still needed work done, and a gentleman named John will call me to set up estimate. One more week passes no phone call. I call and they say he will call take phone # again. With out phone call I get nock at door its John and he does estimate. I'm told I will receive email of estimate next day. I wait 3 days call about estimate verify email address with secretary, correct email on file. STILL NO ESTIMATE.
