The best pizza in Ridgefield. After trying every pizza place in town, this is the best...good, basic pizza like I grew up on in New Jersey. Not fancy, artisan, brick oven etc. just old fashioned cheesy, oily, Friday night / big game on tv pizza baked to perfection. Ask for crispy. So if you're not into cracker-thin crust, artisan-wood-fired bells and whistles pizza, nor chain - fake pizza (like Pizza Hut, papa johns, little Caesar, etc) which I despise...Genoa is your go-to pizza place in town. Avoid the subs, there are better options in town. But for pizza, Genoa is tops. read more

I grew up in Ridgefield and a few years before I moved Genoa opened. They made a fantastic sandwich and I really missed them. A group of us went to a UConn football game and got 2 giant godfathers and a giant leaning tower of piza. They brought me right back to the old days! This is a very nice local place with lots of food options. I made my own sandwich of a chicken cutlet with lettuce, onion, mayonnaise and cheese. Everything is made fresh. The cheeseburger looked amazing and the bacon cheese fries were very delicious. read more

I'm not going to reduce Genoa's star rating, but I feel like a ding dong after raving about the chicken tenders, so I need to add an update. Shortly after posting my review, I ordered the chicken tenders for the first time in awhile, and WUT!?! They were not the super special crunchy ones I previously raved about. They were very average. Maybe it was a one off. I'm hoping it was! Anyway, I don't want to be held accountable if you order the chicken tenders and you don't get the special ones. Walked up to the counter. Not very friendly, and prices for hot food are well... I didn't see them anywhere. My son ordered some of the orecchiette and Mac n cheeses two large spoonfuls of the orecchiette and a scoop of mac n cheese.. $11.95. Said on my receipt $6.99/lb. Well their scales must be weighted, because surely he did not even have a lb of pasta. Bought it because he was hungry, but we won't be back. Really great food here! My friends and I order every Friday from Genoa. We call it "Genoa Friday" and always really enjoy our food. Our favorite is getting the Sicilian cheese pizza. This place has always been consistently good food, friendly staff and an awesome variety of different types of food to choose from. The assortment is sure to please everyone. The dining area is spacious to sit at, there are some seats outside. The place is a little hidden, and a little inconvenient to park and trek up the stairs or walk the sidewalk to the front door. My FIL suggested this place to grab sandwiches for our road trip. We walked in and the place was *packed*, like easily 10 people on line and several more sitting/standing about. I thought that was a good sign. Actually, it turns out this place is probably busy out of habit. As in, people eat here out of habit, or because everyone *says* it's good, but it's really not, but everyone has convinced themselves that it is. Except it's not. I left my husband with my order "hot soppressata with provolone cheese." Never have I EVER had to specify more than that at a sandwich shop like this (exception: Subway). 100% of the time in my life (before Genoa deli) an Italian sandwich shop will at least ASK you if you want lettuce, tomatoes, dressing, peppers, onions, pickles - SOMETHING. Instead, nothing was asked, and nothing was included with the sandwich. This lame-ass place literally gave me meat and cheese on bread. And to make matters WORSE, the soppressata was not hot. My husband saw the guy write "hot" on his pad, but they must have wimpy taste buds b/c this soppressata was weak. Even my husband's special sandwich (the Leaning Tower of Pisa) didn't have dressing/mustard/mayo, SOMETHING. And the peppers that came on his were bland and gross. 3 sandwiches for $19. Save your money and go to Subway. Their Spicy Italian for $5 blows this place out of the water. read more

Genoa's been around since I was a kid. I've been there perhaps a hundred times or more. And I can say with conviction, through all the ups and downs, good times and bad, in sickness and in health: "Eh, Genoa's aight, I guess..." Don't get me wrong, I've always liked the place. But I never went there because my stomach was growling for its culinary delicacies, rather due to a hankering for some cheap, quick, convenient food while happening to be in the vicinity. Indeed, that's the experience you'll get, and is perhaps fully intended, at Genoa. Good sandwiches, good hot food, good pizza. Nothing's bad, nothing's particularly great, everything is replicable either at home or another deli/restaurant. Mouth wateringly average. read more

I have to second the review by Nicole K. below. I asked for an Italian sandwich, and i got meat, cheese and bread. It was wrapped, so i only found out when we got home. To me, olive oil, lettuce/tomato, etc. are not options on an Italian sandwich - they are part of the deal. This should be pretty basic for a sandwich shop - especially one with an italian name! They also carry some tasty custom selections like The Godfather as well as hot entrees that lean towards their Italian roots like Chicken Parm, Sausage and Peppers, Chicken Picante, Veal and Peppers, Eggplant Parm and others. You can also get some decent pizza and stuffed bread here. As well as order other side dishes. Come cookies and pastries such as linzer torte and black and white cookies, which are tasty. The staff is very friendly and most have been there a long time, which says good things about the store. Great Italian deli. Pizza is very good but the sandwiches are exceptional. Try one made with garlic bread. I used to love this place, would go there once a week.. a couple of months ago I ordered slices of pizza and the employee took the slice from the case with his bare hands.. I left and called the owner, he apologized and said it would never happen again. Well, it happened again last night, the employee just grabbed the pizza again with his bare hands, pretty disgusting..
