This is the best food I ever had. We had sushi and spring rolls and they were incredible. This place deserves every bit of 5 stars.

This has been on my list to go for a while. For some odd reason, after learning about it while in Wilmington, it took me 2 years to actually go. Great Sushi place tucked in a mini-mall, ample parking (shared with other businesses in the mini-mall). I've learned this place is family owned and operated. Went here on a Wednesday night Dinner for two. Got seated right away. Our drink orders were taken quickly and before we knew it our server was ready to take our orders. I ordered: Pork Gyoza - pan fried (recommend this way, but they do boiled) Sea Dragon roll - fried shrimp tempura with torched tuna and spicy aioli (Yum!) Lotus Roll - rice paper wrapped roll (think fresh spring roll) Superstar Roll - uhm bluefin tuna! enough said. It was delicious. You also get a edamame seaweed salad on the house with your order. Bonus: when you get your bill, you they give you an assortment of toffee on a tray. Regular, Green Tea and Coffee. Get the toffee! My wife and I have a love of sushi, but Genki takes it to a whole new level: Chef Danny, And his whole family are as welcoming as they are professional- making every customer feel like their favorite. Our favorites start with a warm bowl of light miso soup, homemade hot sake and crisp seaweed salad. Seasoned just right- not too sweet, not too salty. An experience like no other! Chef Danny is a master of his craft and everyone who works along side him (including his adorable son) works as if they are doing an intricate dance. The sushi was unlike anything I had ever tasted, like something out of a movie! I am one of the most critical people when it comes to food, and I've worked with some incredible and talented chefs and Danny and his staff take it one step further. From the attentive customer service, to the exquisite plating and care of the food, it was a memorable experience I won't soon forget. My friends and I came to Genki to celebrate her birthday, however, a huge disappointment. We needed to book a reservation. We booked it for 7:45 pm. We walked across the street to a bar for an hour. We came back to the restaurant at 7:45 to wait for another 10 minutes. At 7:55, we sat down and was told there is a wait due to lack of workers and waitresses at this time. We ordered 1 fried rice, 5 rolls and 2 drinks. We received our drinks 5 minutes later. As we sat in the restaurant, we noticed favoritism by the owner. Guests continued to walk in and was served prior to us. The waitress or possibly the owner of the restaurant failed to check up on us. She does not care on how long we waited and cares so much for her "friends". An hour and a half of waiting for our food, we asked for the status. The "owner" stated we are the fourth in line at 9:20 pm. I asked her does that mean we would need to wait another 20 minutes per table to get our food? She giggled and apologized for the wait. My friend stated we waited for an hour and a half only to receive a response of I know. I'm sure her friends came in after us only to receive the cater she thinks they should receive instead of catering the her guests in order. This place does not deserve a star for customer service. At 9:50 pm, we have not reviewed our food. This restaurant is the worse customer experience we have ever received. read more

Before I start, I must say I was in high anticipation of dining at Genki. I was not disappointed! The wagyu appetizer was tender and buttery- delicious! I definitely recommend it. The miso and kimchi were also good, but nothing memorable. And the edamame and seaweed salad? Excellent! The sushi was the freshest I've had in awhile- the more exotic cuts were surprisingly good and the salmon and tuna were also great. Of the highest quality and an excellent display. Dessert, mochi and ice cream, were heavenly. You could taste it was homemade. The only complaint I have with this place is the atmosphere and location. Decided to have an early Mother's Day dinner here with the family. We've been here many times, but first time reviewing on Yelp. We received a warm welcome and were seated in a booth promptly. Our server took our drink orders and returned after a few minutes with drinks and took our order. I ordered a sake sampler, pork gyoza, firecracker roll. The family ordered Katsu-don, and chicken katsu curry. The restaurant had a heavy flow of customers and many tables reserved. I would suggest making a reservation on the app open table or calling for a reservation. It was busy. Our food was delivered which looked and smelled amazing. I can honestly say, we have never had a bad or even mediocre experience here. We have always enjoyed our food, service, and atmosphere here. This visit was no different. The food was so good and tasty. The sake sampler was a nice added bonus. It's been a long time since I've had sake. I went with the recommendation from our server. I was pleased with the recommendation. I also enjoyed the home made caramel samples they provide at the end of your meal. The almond caramel was delicious, as was the coffee caramel. The ambiance was very clean, nicely decorated in an authentic Japanese style. Our waiter patiently answered all of our questions and was friendly and quite knowledgeable. The miso soup my husband ordered was a good temperature and he said it was really good. My eggdrop soup was tasty and a good temperature. A cute little restaurant. However, the manager "greeted" us at the door pretty aggressively mentioning that their staff doesnt have to wear masks and neither do the customers. Quote: "WE'RE NOT THE MASK POLICE" That being said. Our waitress did wear a mask though a lot of the kitchen and sushi preparer did not. She gave us fantastic service. Overall good food, but their sushi was even better (which is why I still have them a decent score). Just maybe consider takeout... In pre-pandemic times I would have given this place three stars. However, I ordered pickup and when I came to get it, no one was wearing masks. They have a big sign in the window saying that they don't wear masks and they are claiming medical exemptions. It would've been nice to know that before ordering food that I promptly threw away because there's no way in hell I'm going to eat food prepared by people who are not wearing masks during a pandemic. read more

Bad customer service and rude hostess will cause me to never go back and make every effort on social media to dissuade you from eating here. Their website posted open til 9:30. We walked in the door at 9:03 and was refused seating. I showed them their post of their response was we are trying to fix that but we're closed. The restaurant still had a number of tables being served. We were only a party of two and I felt They should have served us due their error of posting a closing time of 9:30. And the hostess was extremely rude, and dismissive. Restaurants should be grateful for our support during this pandemic but this place just lost me forever. Genkhi is hands down the BEST and FRESHEST sushi we have ever had. You can't go wrong here. If you're not seeing what you want on the menu, just ask the waitress, and they'll customize something for you. We brought some friends in with is the last time we were there. They love super spicy sushi and they weren't seeing anything on the menu that screamed super spicy. So the waitress said she'd get the chef to fix them up something special...and boy did he! First and foremost...my apologies for the delay in this review, as it is 2 weeks overdue. However, the remembrance of this COVID-19-era, curbside takeout is still fresh in my mind. I have read and been asked by many if I had dined at Genki Sushi and tasted some of Chef Danny's artistic creations. The answer up until recently, was a "no" but I'm now delighted to say that I still can recall the flavors of each roll I savored that evening. FOOD: Assortment of sushi: Spider Roll; Firecracker Roll; Geisha Roll; Philly Roll. Each piece was packed generously with fine, fresh fish. Using the sport of baseball as a grading reference, The Firecracker Roll was a homerun, the Philly Roll was a solid double due to the larger chunk of fresh salmon and added scallion inside and the Geisha Roll was also a double. And the MVP of the night was the Spider Roll! The Spider Roll is a classic, specialty maki that can blow your tastebuds away, or can be as bland or bad as you can imagine. I believe I have tasted over 200 different spider rolls in my lifetime and my favorite has been, for over 18 years, at a place in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was a Spider Roll I had asked my wife to try just once, although she, at the time, didn't want to. When she did...literally speaking...the hairs on her arms stood up. Genki's Spider Roll?? It tasted almost identical!! I had to do a double take at how another chef could mimic the flavors of my #1 Spider Roll and Chef Danny did it. Well done, my friend...well done! I saved the Spider Roll for last after that first initial piece and right now, I kind of want some more. Hope you're reading this, Genki!? :) SCORE: 4.5 STARS!! SERVICE: The call-in order was simple, curbside pickup time was on point and the employee was kind, courteous and followed all safety measures such as a mask, gloves and safe distancing. It was seamless for a curbside pickup and the sushi was super fresh. SCORE: 5 STARS!! OVERALL SCORE: All of the sushi consumed was delicious. Although 2 of the rolls did not blow me away, they were still delicious and above par against comparable rolls tasted in the past. But the Firecracker Roll is very good and the Spider Roll is simply incredible!! I look forward to dining with you soon once life can return to some form of normalcy...or, what is now "normal"?
