I ordered take out from here and right off the bat customer service was outstanding. I walked in and they greeted me right away telling me to sit where I liked. I told them I was there for a take out order and they told me to go to the back. The waitress was super nice and asked if I wanted a drink while I was waiting for my food which I thought was really nice. While I was waited I admired their customer service it was kinda like at CiCi's they greet you coming in and out the door but they say it in Japanese which I thought was a nice touch. For my to go order I got 2 seaweed salads, 2 California rolls, and one shrimp tempura roll. Were they the best sushi no but they were alright. When having sushi the sushi itself needs to stay in place and not breaking apart. The shrimp tempura wasn't a issue but my California roll kept wanting to fall apart. The seaweed salad wasn't anything to rave about. It's not a fancy place but it has the look and smell of a sushi bar and it's really bright and opening with the smell wasabi. Would I go there again probably not but it's probably one of the best customer service I got here in Wilmington. read more

Well, I am happy to report that Genki has been added to my small, but persistently growing, list of genuine Japanese restaurants in the US. The waitresses were not Japanese and one was likely in training; however, the Sushi chef was Japanese and was chatting away with another Japanese patron sitting at the bar. I ordered Salmon and Tuna Nigiri and Miso marinated grilled fish, all delicious and solid quality. I was also pleasantly surprised to see they had Orion beer from Okinawa. Their wine and Sake list had good quality selection as well and I certainly did not expect to see a Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley on the list. Anyway, the only reason I'm not giving a five star is the interior, it lacks ambience and is pretty spartan. But, that's just me being nit picky, don't let that turn you away from a good meal! read more

Authentic place, lots of heart, delicious food -- everything from the appetizers (tempura shrimp, miso, pan fried gyoza) to the sushi, udon, and mochi for dessert. Knowledgeable and friendly staff had delicious recommendations for food and sake. Love that this is clearly a family run business. Genki is the best sushi in Wilmington. Everything they serve is authentic, fresh, and colorful. If you get a chance, sit at the bar and watch the chef work! The last time I came, I had veggie gyoza and a few different rolls. I suggest trying the Japanese pickle roll! Great texture and flavor. The service here is also excellent! Came here on a sunday night, so it wasn't too busy. We had a party of 7 so we had to make reservations. Walked in and was greeted right away with menus and drinks. The sushi was very good and very fresh. Prices were low compared to some other places. I was from out of town and had never been to Wilmington before. I was in the mood for some good sushi and I ended up having the best sushi I've ever had in my life. The restaurant is family owned and operated. Lana, the owner, can usually be found helping out with everything around the restaurant, she's also one of the nicest people you will ever probably meet. Her husband, Chef Danny as the locals call him, can be seen behind the counter preparing his amazing sushi. I had the sushi dinner which came with an assortment of sushi pieces and a California roll. It was hands down the best sushi I've ever had thus far. My server, Chloe was very sweet, and from overhearing other conversations with her and guests, she's extremely knowledgeable about the entire menu and the different types of sushi offered. To top everything off, you are offered complimentary homemade caramel pieces, and they are absolutely amazing. It was so good, I ordered take out from them again my last night there. Great mom and pop sushi place! I went by myself on a Friday night, and the place was about half-full, and I got outstanding service. All the servers and the owners were extremely attentive - really made me feel welcome, which I find more and more uncommon in restaurants. My service was well-paced - a few minutes after finishing one course, the next arrived. The sushi was fresh and large, and both the sesame dressing on the salad and the miso soup were very good and did not taste "canned". They also served a little complimentary appetizer of edamame, and little homemade candies at the end. I ordered a bottle of sake, and in discussing it with the owner I learned that they also make their own sake - and they proceeded to serve me first one complimentary serving, then another, and another. Really outstanding care for their customers and personal attention to detail. The prices were extremely reasonable - I ended up with the appetizer, miso, salad, deluxe sushi dinner wtih a tuna roll and ~8 sushi pieces, homemade candy, a 300-mL bottle of sake, and at least 3 servings of homemade sake - all for around $40. I didn't just have dinner, I had dinner in their home. A small restaurant run by husband and wife. It is in a strip mall but you won't remember that for long. You are welcomed the moment you walk in the door. My husband has been eating here for years while traveling for business and it was as if a son just came home when he walked in the door. The sushi is fresh and delicious. The katsu don tasted like I was in her home, eating at her table instead of restaurant fare. They brought us several small treats during the meal since they knew my husband, as I saw them do to several regulars. The gentleman even makes his own toffees which are offered graciously at table at the end of the meal.
