It's been awhile since we visited- at least until yesterday. Service was very SLOW as she kept disappearing for long periods at a time. Food was great except I ordered my with cabbage. I understand cabbage has a lot of moisture but seriously! When I started eating my bowl was over half full with liquid. Couldn't get our servers attention so had to pour the excess liquid in the little metal cups used for the extra toppings (crushed red pepper, sesame seeds, etc). This has always been a favorite weekend place of ours but not sure it's worth it anymore, especially for lunch. I have been there many times and the last three times have been the worst. Right now I have been throwing up for the past 5 hours from them cooking their food improperly. One side was completely burnt while the other wasn't cooked sufficiently. I also ordered a strawberry lemonade and was brought sweet tea. When I took it up to the bar to be switched out the girl at the bar asked if my tea was "nasty?" Ummm... Nasty?? No... Just completely wrong. The previous time we came in and sat at the bar and the bartender didn't speak to us. When I finally got his attention he told me to hold on because he was downloading the flashlight app on his phone. We walked out. And Ghengis Grill is probably one of my favorite restaurants. Not only is it delicious but usually all of the food is really fresh. We were sat promptly and was told we would be waited soon. After roughly 5 minutes staff came by and asked if we've been waited. When we told her no, she kindly told us that someone would be by to at least get our drink order. 10 minutes later no one showed up. When I made a comment that more wait staff would be appreciated I got a dirty look. We left, we will never go back. My experience in Franklin was much more pleasant. It was my wife's first time. They get one star because the girl working the grill was very sweet and did a nice job. Let me start with the positives. Their seats don't have holes in them (they're held together nicely with duct tape). They have no line (because everybody else has figured out they have crap service). My husband ordered Kirin, they brought Kirin light, even though the menu says Kirin they don't actually carry it, they only carry Kirin light. We ordered our food and our kids meals, she took our kids tickets and brought our bowls. I got in line, fixed my food, got it, ate the entire thing, and then had to ask when my kids' food would be ready. IT WAS THE SAME THING I GOT HOW DOES IT TAKE AN EXTRA 15 MINUTES?! There were nine... NINE... N.I.N.E. employees standing right next to the grill and there weren't even that many full tables in the restaurant! Food was decent, service was not. I have been to a lot of Mongolian Style restaurants in my life and this is absolutely one of the best. The ingredients tasted very fresh. The meats were still juicy after being cooked and the staff was very friendly. I will eat here every time I am down in Murfreesboro. read more

Why all the changes?!? They are pricing themselves out of business! I used to frequent this restaurant at least three or four times a month as it was affordable and tasty; however, during the past few months it has steadily declined. The most recent visit (a couple weeks ago) was when I should have known something was wrong when there were only 5 patrons in the establishment (usually this place is packed). The price increase (plus tax, drink, tip would end up costing almost $20.00) and I could go elsewhere and get a steak dinner. Sorry Genghis, but you have lost a loyal customer. read more

I hated to give this place even one star! The area where you pick your food was dirty and not sanitary. In addition, the floor had food all over it and was sticky. Waited in line forever and realized the wait was so long because everyone was trying to decide what sauce to get since the did not have Teriyaki! I would have never sat down if I had known that sauce was not available. The bathroom had no paper towels. This place is gross. I will never be back. Upon arrival the restaurant had a very funky smell like sweaty locker room. It was not pleasant and the place could have used an air freshener. The floors were sticky and gross all throughout the dining area. It did not feel clean, but my friends and I were hungry so we decided we would stay. We were seated and the server did not come to get our drink order for a while. The restaurant was not busy at all maybe 3 other tables of people were there. We waited a while to be given a menu which is weird because you get your own food we told her what size bowl we wanted and she came back with them. The menus were filthy and ragged looking I didn't even want to touch it. We went to get the food no issues there. We went back to our table and waited for the food which felt like a while for the lack of people in the restaurant. When I received my bowl I wasn't very impressed, there were chunks of dry rice I had to blend in the bowl and my broccoli didn't look like it got cooked at all. It was also luke warm upon arrival to the table. My friends and I waited an extra 25 min after we were ready to go just to pay, we had other places we needed to be and we kept flagging the server down to tell her we were ready but she kept ignoring our signaling. This was the first time I ever had to wait more than 25 min just to pay for my food to leave. Based on this experience the restaurant needs some serious cleaning and the hygiene needs to be improved. There were 4 different servers and only 3 tables with people and we still couldn't manage to get someone to give us the check. Our sever also half heartedly checked on us once and never offered us a refill, she did ask us if we wanted to go cups after we got the check but that's it. The smell of the restaurant did not scream clean at all, seriously I felt like I was in a sweaty gym locker room. The last time I went here I loved it and it was great, I don't know what happened but I will not be returning for another visit. read more

All I really wanted was some teriyaki chicken. It seemed like a good idea, Genghis Grill, looked like a good place to get some Asian food. You walk in, the first thing, "Have you ever been here before?" We had not. A few instructions about the system, a menu and we were seated. The waitress came and asked again if it was our first time. A few more instructions and she took our drink order (tea). We're looking at the menu, and there's just nothing on it. She returns with our tea and asks us what size we wanted to order, S,M,L. That's like asking how much you're going to eat before you know what you're having. She explained that 'small' was a pretty good amount, and it was about ten buck so we ordered the small. She returned with two silver bowls that looked about the right size, if you were a Chihuahua. We were still pretty unclear about the whole thing, but the waitress assured us that the bowls she had given us did not represent the size of our meal. I thought they were some kind of token you turned in in exchange for your meal. She also brought a business card size menu with 6 or 7 styles of noodles and rice. She walked away, and we sat there still wondering what to do next. I chased her down, and she pointed to a cue line in the back of the restaurant. I assumed there would be someone there to help us with our selection or at least to tell us what to do. There was not. Another couple arrived back at the cue line right before we did with bowls that looked about right for a Doberman. I began thinking I had already screwed up by ordering the small. They were also unsure about the process, and insisted that we go first. I stepped forward to the buffet, which was dimly lit but enough light that I could tell all the meats were uncooked and still bordering on frozen. I wasn't sure if we were in a sushi bar. Still couldn't figure out what was going on. We had one bowl and it looked like there were three more stations of things to put in the bowl. By now the couple behind us thought they had figured it out and were ready to move along. I asked the guy if he knew what we were supposed to do and he began telling me to pack as much meat in the bowl as possible and to smash it down really good. I was pretty sure I was about to pay ten bucks for a frozen meat appetizer. Then the guy said we would select our rice from the card, which I had left on the table. The waitress had failed to tell me to bring it with me to the cue line. I took the bowl and tray and set it on the dividing wall, told my friend this was bull and we were leaving. As we walked past our table, I threw three bucks on it for the ice tea, I'd had two sips, and we left hungry, angry and laughing, not at ourselves but at the totally ridiculous business model, one in which the customer is left dazed and confused but more importantly hungry. When I got home, I checked Yelp to see if my experience was similar to others or if I had just gotten there on a bad day. It seems that someone else had tried to inform them of the problem two years ago, so it is obvious they are not listening. The fact that the host and waiter have to ask you if you've been there before is evidence that they already know the system can be, AND IS, confusing, but they are taking no extra measures to fix it. Someone else has already written about this IN 2014. At least the food court in the mall has a smiling host passing out toothpick size samples and will gladly show you to their cue line. I cannot comment about the quality of the food, but if it is prepared with a similar disregard as the quality of service, you'll probably be disappointed. Next time I want frozen meat, I'll go to Wal Mart. I may not like the check-out lines but at least I understand the process. read more

So I've never been to a Genghis Grill before in my life until tonight. I was pleased with this place. I liked the big space it was in, high ceilings, and general setup. I went at about 10:00 on a Saturday night, so it wasn't busy..which I also enjoyed. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive..yet casual and not too hyper/phony..such as many waitstaff in restaurants are. I thought the whole idea of pretty much picking everything from the meats and fish you wanted (and a plethora there was)..to the seasonings (all delicious, unique, and vital)..to the vegetables&fruits..to the sauces..this entire experience was just different and unique. I have never been to or even heard of a place like this before so I was excited to basically put together my entire meal..short of cooking it myself. I put together a ridiculous assortment of spices, veggies, fruits, meats, and sauces and somehow..it came out amazing still. The service was quick..the food was delicious, filling but not too heavy, and the price..was definitely fair. I was satisfied overall with my Genghis Grill experience!:) read more

This place is unlike any other restaurant that I've been to in the 'Boro area. I will admit, I was really taken aback at first by how many options there were. And like other people who have reviewed it, I was a little concerned by the fact that there were so many meats sitting in such a close proximity to one another and it looked a little sloppy. The stations with the vegetables and the sauces were kinda the same. But the end result is nothing short of amazing. The amount of food you can pile into the bowl that they give you is just crazy. I ate on that for three different meals, no lie. Also, for those of you who like to partake in alcohol, they have some crazy strong drinks. I ordered something that was blue and about knocked my socks off. I had to ask the waitress if she could do something to make it less alcoholic, which should seem ridiculous, but that's how strong it was. In the end I think I could've just split it into two glasses and filled the rest with water and still gotten wasted. I love this place and can't wait to go back! Walked in today for the first time in months. This place used to be great. It smelled like rotten fish when we walked in. The tongs I used for the chicken had chicken slime all over them. The place smelled like death. The meats were not fresh. The server was an idiot. Kept trying to make witty jokes at my expense. First experience. Assumed that because I was big I'd want a big serving. Ended up getting too much food. When I got up to get my food, they move the table and pushed the chair back in after I'd washed up to eat (didn't want to touch sticky chair again). I would not eat at this location again. So I haven't been to Genghis Grill in over 3 years. I recently went today. And what a rip off. I don't know how they charge $20 for a miniscule meal that you must put together yourself. And there are no effing menus I had to ask the "server" the price, and then I told him to make it for me when he quoted me $15. They did, after I refused to make my own raw food... at a restaurant! But did the "server" bring my food to the table? NO!? Wtf? And the "Large Bowl" doesn't allow you any more ingredients other than poorly cooked cheap rice. And after my VERY DISAPPOINTING MEAL- I demanded to speak to a manager. Whom didn't seem to want to give me the time of day, (eventhough the dining hall was empty and I wonder why...) I told him this place was a ripoff and that I will never be back. This "restaurant" is a joke. The management @ 4:30pm on June 17 failed at even the most modest attempt at appeasement. He didn't even apologize, nor did he care. Didn't even look me in the eye. And this brings me to a disclaimer - read the other reviews about these jank iPad looking things on the table that I guess are supposed to make up for the poor service. Well, I've read that they charge you for playing the games on them... Effing right, you read it. The JANK IPAD CYBER-MENU CHARGES YOU! But I didn't even look at it, because that's what a "server" is for to bring you the menu that indicates the price and selection of the foo the restaurant has to offer... But l'm not a complete a&&hole, I left the "server" a $2 tip on an $18 crappy meal. Beacause he did put raw ingredients in a bowl for me after all. But I'll never ever get ripped off again. And BTW, I can have a gourmet meal prepared, cooked, and brought to my table, by a cheerfull competent server at a proper restaurant for what I paid to handle uncooked food and stand in line to do it. Plus, I had to eat and pay for this substandard, sodium filled, on par with buffet quality @ inflated hysterrical prices which that they don't even tell you until after they send you to stand in line and make you, make your own GD GG Bowl! Never ever eat here. The atmosphere is unfriendly, the management asks like an office temp having a bad day, the price is inflated and criminal! I don't see how they stay in business by telling people it's fun to make your own food, and carry it to your own table and pay way too much for it. They give a small metal bowl and if you want enough sauce you must carry 2 small ketchup bowls with you through the line, with no instruction on "how to make your meal" just a bunch of numbers hovering over unappetizing raw meat poultry and otherwise. Just save yourself a whole bunch of money and go next door to Which Wich, or actually go to a proper restaurant like Peter D's and spend the same amount of money while getting served, and never having to see your food before it is prepared in a proper kitchen, in restaurant with management that cares if you've had a bad experience, and with food that doesn't taste of salt and nothing else. Again Never Ever waste your time or money on this place if you have taste and enjoy food. It's a pathetic attempt at Asian cuisine and a far far cry from what it once was. I agree with other reviewers that the Franklin location is much better. When this location first opened I enjoyed it tremendously but over the years it has gone downhill. I went in for dinner earlier this week and was left disappointed. Service was okay, it's never too spectacular. My big problem was the food on the line was sub par compared to previous visits. The chicken was all one mass of meat that you had to mush through to get in the bowl. Some veggies were not exactly fresh, many were slimy or mis colored. I had to spend a few minutes digging through the snap peas to find some that were actually green like they were suppose to be. They have changed to a lot of veggies stored in water, which I decided to skip all together. I get that you have to make money but some corners cannot be cut to ensure a great product. Overall I do like Genghis but i feel there is a lot that can be improved in order to have a great overall experience. read more

So if you go go Ghengis Grill Murfreesboro TN 2615 Medical Center Pkwy store,. DO NOT let your kids touch the table top tablets. They look like an advertising gizmo, a little lighted screen...but they really offer games for 30 cents a play and photos with no listed price. My son picked it up while we were looking at the menu and started taking pictures. After a minute we realized what he was doing and made him stop. I honestly thought the thing was just an advertising gizmo. Its a functioning tablet. That charges your kid to take his own picture. He took 10. $3 was added to the bill. At no point did it warn him that he was being charged, it just showed on the bill. I asked that the charges be removed. The manager removed $1.50.I told the manager that 1) there was no prices listed for the pictures 2) you can not legally enter into a binding contract with a 10 year old and force a third party to pay it 3) I want a refund... the manager John did not care. Total apathy, total lack of concern that a long time customer felt cheated. No refund. John did not even attempt an apology. I have never seen such a massive lack of concern over ones job. I will never eat there again. Keep my $1.50. I will take all my business elsewhere. The check was $51.74 and we tipped $8.00. I hope the buck fifty was worth losing all my future business.
