The mansion was built in 1856, making it the first mansion in Lake Geneva. The estate has been completely redone but charming details were kept. Along with a mansion where you can book a room, Maxwell also includes beautiful gardens, lounges, outdoor fireplaces, a heated pool, croquet and bocce ball. There is also a separate area in the back with motel rooms. Like I said, I was there for a lil' drink. There's a bar inside the mansion (Apothecary Bar) with all kinds of medical and druggist paraphernalia, with the space being a tribute to Dr. Philip Maxwell. But it's the speakeasy, which is accessible outside in the front of the house, that you'll want to visit. Ask for the password inside the mansion, and they will let you into a dark, below-ground bar. It's all decorated in prohibitionist flyers, and even the bartenders are dressed up in period costumes. It's a really cool and unique bar in Lake Geneva.

Focusing the review on the apothecary bar. You need to know the password to get in the speakeasy. A few days after we visited the speakeasy, we went in to try the apothecary bar to get some food and drink. A friendly helpful bartender, explained all their creative cocktails, shared the pub food that they offered, and answered questions. We ordered a flatbread pizza and a spinach artichoke dip as well as a couple of cocktails. They served us at a table where we sat on a couch in a room just across the hall and were quite comfortable. There are other rooms where you can go - not much seating in the actual apothecary bar.

Cassie answered my emails very timely to ensure the bunches were ordered properly, and they were very clear on what options I had. I chose Lilypots over a slightly less expensive option because the customer service they provided definitely helped mitigate the stress of party planning. Overall, I was very happy with the experience! Picking the flowers up on a Friday afternoon was a bit more difficult due to the many weddings and deliveries they are often juggling, but I totally understand this is a crazy year and weddings are the core of their business! They called me about what time frame I could get my flowers and were very apologetic it varied from their store hours, but I definitely appreciated the open communication and customer service! Also, they have designated free parking in front of their shop for customers which is a huge plus in Lake Geneva!

Laura and Cassie were so kind, sincere and helpful in choosing flowers that would work beautifully together. My bouquet was absolutely stunning and I got so many compliments on the pergola decoration all night. I am absolutely thrilled and will recommend this shop to all of my friends. Working with them was truly amazing and they were such a gorgeous addition to my day! I cannot say enough awesome things. Work with lily pots and you will get stunning bouquets, gorgeous colour combinations, and a fantastic group of people to support you and ensure your happiness!! Ps. We chose sunflowers, maroon dahlias, pink free spirit roses and blue delphinium. Incase you're curious ;)

Elizabeth was incredible and went above and beyond to send creative ideas, helpful suggestions and kept me on track along the way. She kept great notes, attended meetings with vendors I could not attend (as I am out of state), thought of many day of items I hadn't and all while presenting me with great solutions and ideas. During the day she kept everything on track, learned my bridal party and became part of the family. She was also amazing support when my venue coordinator abruptly quit (10 days before the wedding), she brought in extra help for the set up, found me a violinist, triple checked all details with the venue, and checked on the set up during the cocktail hour to ensure everything was exactly as we discussed (I later heard it wasn't but Elizabeth kept calm, didn't panic anyone and ensured everything was as it should be). Several times my mom and I said, "How do people do this without Elizabeth?" Elizabeth is that extra pair of hands you need who knows what to do when and allows you, your mom and your wedding party to fully enjoy the day.

It's not a big bar but it's a comfortable size establishment if I were to say. They still open pretty late and to get a great crowd. Drink prices are fair but if you come here with a large party you need to double check your bill because accidents do happen here when it comes to potentially splitting your bill or stuff being randomly added to your bill. We made the grave mistake of celebrating a bride-to-be while wearing costumes for her wedding that falls on Halloween weekend. The bartender and the handful of likely regulars/townies looked at us like we had personally ruined their week. Then they blocked me on Instagram for saying so. Bold strategy. Imagine being an establishment annoyed to have paying customers - weird concept, I know. Thankfully, another local bar was happy to have paying customers and reminded us what hospitality actually looks like. Save yourself the awkward vibes and go to Magpie's instead.
