Well, so I tried getting a 50 peso haircut at another high-end looking salon that came with a bit of "ambience". Well it turned out horrible as the stylist couldn't even cut straight! Well, I obviously got what I paid for, I know! So, naturally I would find someone else who can fix my hair so I stopped by at Nilo's Cut Salon, who offers Php 100 haircuts for a trim with no shampoo (Php 180 with shampoo). Nilo has made a name for himself here in Better Living, and I believe he has a long list of 'suki's' already. I had no idea what the hair cut I wanted was called, so I fished out a photo from Pinterest (Haha!) and showed him a photo of this Parisian girl with a blunt cut. Nilo says "Ah, square bob". Okay, great! Nilo cuts hair effortlessly, and his hands are light and gentle, unlike some stylists whose hands and movements are a bit on the rough side. Nilo works through your hair with a feathery touch. Ten minutes later, my cut is done, and is the correct length I wanted! He also fixed my fringe as well (About my fringe, I only let stylists who I can trust to cut my fringe. Let's just say it's a precaution for ending up with another tragedy called 'baby bangs'). His assistant then proceeds to blow dry my hair after the cut, and after a few minutes, he goes "Para ka nang chandelier" (You look like a chandelier). "Chandelier? Huh...?" Then he says "The music video". If you know me, I am perpetually out of touch with pop music. If you're wondering what my haircut looked like after, search Chandelier by Sia on Youtube and spot the blonde Maddie Ziegler! So, except for the hair, I look nothing like that Parisian girl on the photo I brought, but I am very pleased with Nilo's quick service and expertise.

She may be pushing 40 but looks more than a decade younger. She's often been mistaken for a 20-something and has done some modeling work, focusing on her face which has the clearest complexion. I had always thought that David's Salon was nothing more than just another place where ladies and some gents like to get their hair styled. I was wrong. Incidentally, David's is one of the few salons that can afford to advertise in the newspapers and glossy magazines. So business must be booming. One reason was the bargain price of P39.95 for a simple haircut that came with a free shampoo and blow dry. I don't think Index was losing money since it was almost always filled with clients, both male and female. But there it was, the old Index was gone and in its place was a new salon that calls itself Styles & Smiles. Styles & Smiles was not yet open when I passed by earlier this week. I could hear someone giving a briefing to the staff. Out of sheer curiosity, I peeked inside. Aha! I told myself. A lot of those faces look familiar. I can surmise that the owner of the Index franchise had opted not to renew his or her contract, and decided to come up with his/her own brand of hair salon. A sign outside announced that Styles & Smiles would have its soft opening very soon, perhaps as early as this week. I don't know if the old clients will still go to this new salon, but chances are a large enough number of them will go to the place, be surprised at the change of name, and get their hair done anyway. The ladies were all so sweet and non judge mental at the fact my feet are so terrible & my outbursts of laughter was pretty crazy. Unfortunately, I left feeling disappointed, stressed, and concerned about the condition of my nails. The therapist who attended to me, Irene, appeared to be very careless during the procedure. She was too rough while cleaning my nails, causing significant discomfort and pain. I informed her that I have high blood sugar and requested that she be more gentle and careful. Despite this, my nail started bleeding. I no longer felt comfortable with how the service was being performed, as the pain continued and there seemed to be little effort to adjust her technique. When she proceeded to clean my other foot, the same thing happened. I again told her that it was painful and asked her to stop because it was already bleeding as well. What makes this experience even more disappointing is that your nail cleaning service costs more than what many other nail salons charge. I did not mind paying a higher price because I expected better care, professionalism, and attention to client safety. Unfortunately, that was not what I experienced. As of now, my nail has become swollen and has developed pus, causing significant pain and discomfort. This has resulted in additional stress and concern on my part. I hope management will take this matter seriously, review the incident, and ensure that staff members are properly trained to perform services safely and with the level of care that clients deserve. No customer should leave a salon with an injury and a possible infection after a routine nail cleaning service. Rating: 1/5 - Very disappointing experience.
