I always look forward to my monthly haircut. It's a great pick-me-up and gets me feeling fresh. That being said, I've always struggled getting the exact cut I want. Either it's because I can't communicate what I want to my barber, or he says he understands but doesn't deliver. Since I've started going to Felipe & Sons, I haven't had that problem. Despite my horrible Filipino, the barbers get what I ask for. I trust them completely because there's something about them that exudes confidence in their own craft. All this, and a rinse for 250? That's a total bargain for me. Felipe & Son's aesthetics take from the vintage 50s look. It shows in the wooden floors, the well dressed barbers, and the classic barbers' chairs. The proper word for the aura it emits is dapper. That's how I feel when I leave the place. If you're there early for your reservation, or have to wait in line for your turn, there's nothing to worry about. The place serves libations (fancy old speak for drinks) you can sip on while waiting. You can also head down to Sofrito, or walk a bit down the road for Warung Indo. read more

Tried this place as a walk-in this Sunday and didn't regret it: what a treat! Utterly trendy setting and God what a service level! I have been to barbershops in many places in Europe and the States and none of them gets even close to this level of service. And all that for roughly 6 EUR the haircut. Unbelievable. read more

You know what, I was just a normal guy with normal hair. I didn't grow up styling my hair or even combing it. I was just a guy with hair and I'd brush it to the side. I'd always get those Php 50 haircuts. I'd say "Barbers po" or "trim lang po" and the barber would just chop off some of my hair. Rinse and repeat. There were times when I wanted to have a fancy haircut so I decided to try out those barber shops and salons in the mall that charged about Php 300 for a haircut. And I still saw the same results. They just chopped off some of my hair. And I'd say thank you (for cutting my hair a bit shorter) Now here I was. Sitting down inside Felipe & Sons. Waiting in a chair for my haircut. I heard about this place and I knew that they were going to give me something new. A haircut that I was going to be proud of. A haircut, finally a haircut that would be awesome. So they gave me a side part, a good rinse, and a short but relaxing massage. Friends, I got a side part (Yeah) and now I style it to the side of puff it up to a pomp. It's just awesome how a good haircut can affect your appearance. Seriously, the guys here have exceptional skills. Aside from the haircut expertise, this place also offers customised tailoring for denim jeans and suits. A gentleman's barber indeed. They also have a collection of fine hair products like waxes, gels and pomades. Their staff is also always ready to assist you. read more

Can't speak to the barber's side of the business. BUT DO NOT USE THE TAILOR! Had some black shirts made. Asked for subtle detailing like my other tailor does (patterns inside the Placket Front (under the buttons), inside the collar, inside the French cuffs) to make the shirts unique. They made the shirts...with some crazy, loud, wild stuff (like different color yokes!). Fine, a misunderstanding. Asked them to redo them. Everyone learned something and I thought that we would end up with a quality product that didn't scream "Gangsta!". Finally the shirts came back. Black...not much interesting detail, but fine. BUT...the sleeves were too short. Sleeves too short?! How do you get sleeve length wrong?! I called them and told them. They said "bring them back anytime". Then, sadly, I had to travel back to the US for a time and then we were moving. So, about a 18 months later, I brought the shirts back to be repaired but got there before the tailor shop opens (they open about 11am). I left my number and a good shirt from another tailor for them to use as reference. Almost a week goes by with zero back from them. Then...a note saying, "Sorry, we can't fix these because we don't have any of that fabric anymore". Don't use these guys. They don't truly understand the meaning of "bespoked", of subtle style, or of service. UPDATE1: Interestingly enough, the owner just called. They had apparently recognized a deficiency prior to my post (I assume) and claim to have worked out some improvements (such as some experienced "tailors who make house calls"). They are asking for a second chance. I'm willing to see what happens. More news as it happens. read more

My barbers name was James. He told me he had only been cutting hair now for 2 years. There are a few reasons why I gave only 1 star to him and the San Agustin branch. Being it my first time at this branded barber shop I was looking forward to being pampered at least a little. I asked for a beer on there menu while I was waiting and they did not have any stock. So I asked for a Jack Daniel's on the rocks and they had no ice. So I just said forget it. When I sat in the chair no greeting no explanation to my service I would be getting. All James said is how do I want my hair cut and he didn't seem to happy that I was his client. My hair was looking great when I walked in the place, however, after leaving I looked like a block head. In literal since, James gave me a block head cut and I have to tell you it looked like hell. The worst hair cut I have ever had and I'm 68 years old. With my blonde hair every cut you make will show if it is not tapered in the cut or feathered in the cut. Needless to say James had absolutely no idea how to cut my hair. It was so lop sided I had to go to another barbershop to have my hair re-cut. I absolutely did not care for his attitude if only he were to tell me what to expect I would have felt more at ease. This all took place last Sunday June 30th at 1:15pm. This place definitely not recommended for foreigners with light color hair. I will not ever go back to any branch of there hair salons. Felipe & Sons are more popularly known as a barber shop, but guess what? They are a haberdashery too! My sister was looking for a good tailoring shop for her would-be husband for their wedding. She didn't want just any kind of store, she wanted THE ultimate men's store. Her fiance at the time was a big guy so it was crucial to have a sharp suit for his wedding day. I am sure a lot of people would agree that it's really hard to find nice suits for men that allow value for money. Fortunately, they stumbled upon Felipe & Sons. I have never seen my now brother-in-law look so dapper than on his wedding day, a lot of that thanks to his suit. Felipe & Sons did a great job at transforming him into a dapper groom worthy of his dashing bride! Now, I'll just have to make sure that my sister never reads this! My dad, being the father of the bride, wanted an exceptional suit also for the wedding which is why he decided to have his suit made here as well. He was all praises about not only his suit but of the actual store. They were always well-attended and guess what? Free coffee! I'm certain that my dad loves this particular gesture from Felipe & Sons. read more

When it comes to men, I firmly believe that we need a lot to convince ourselves to change our hairstyles, and a lot more to switch your favourite barber for a new one. For Felipe and Sons however, I can provide a multitude of reasons for you to patronize their establishment... but I only need three, I'll just let you discover the rest. 1. They will give you a damn good haircut 2. It won't you an arm and a leg 3. Single Malt as the Barber sculpts your coiffure I have already visited their shop numerous times at San Agustin St. in Makati, and believe me; ever since my first session, I have not gone to any other Barber Shop/Groomery/Haberdashery since. It is rare to find this kind of establishment here in Manila. I can see that these guys don't focus on the quick and easy but on the quality of service every step of the way, the passion for a good hairstyle, a proper massage, a finely tailored suit and total customer (and self) satisfaction. Had an urge to get a haircut on a Sunday and they were open! Nice hip 2nd-level ambience here, felt like a Western joint. In fact my barber wore a cowboy hat & suspenders. He got exactly what I meant when I said Roman cut, perhaps an obsolete term. It may or may not be weird to read a review about a barber shop from a girl. Well, guess what, I've been to Felipe & Sons.. twice. But okay, I have never had a haircut there. I just bring my 90-year old grandfather there every once in awhile when he feels like pampering himself with a good old fashioned hair cut. Service is absolutely great but on certain days it's pretty full so you may want to call in advance. I've also heard from my guy friends that you can have some scotch while having a haircut. My grandfather has never tried this, he's a light weight when it comes to alcohol. I know this should be my personal review, but I love how my grandfather absolutely loves going to Felipe & Sons. I first treated him for a haircut there for Grandparents' Day and he went up to me to say "Magaling sila." (In English, "They're good.") He says that they know what they're doing and even has a favorite barber. And because my grandfather is happy, I am happy. He's quite a choosy one when it comes to his hair cut. read more

While the place is good they do not work long hours and it is very difficult to get an appointment here. Also the preference is given if u book through online and not if u r a walk in. But the stylists are the best here. A shave or a haircut here is like going to the colonial era and getting a rich man's hair and face treatment done. Very posh and hygienic. read more

Ever since high school (when those hormones started being all OH YOU GOTTA BE A MAN'S MAN NOW HURRR), I always dreamt of Manila having an actual barber's place for guys to get great haircuts and enjoy just a tad bit more style. Felipe and Sons is a step towards that dream being realized. Now for the first time in a while comes a place where guys could own the pleasure of vanity all to themselves (my fiancee mentioned that it was the first time she felt OP in a salon). From the talented barbers to the luxurious soaps and shavers and shaving creams, from the TV lounge showing basketball games to the haberdashery where you could have your own bespoke suit made, Felipe and Sons speaks to the cultured caveman within all us duders. Update your phone number and your appointment layout online. Your number is a little kid answering the phone and your website doesn't work. On the website it said you had a 4pm available slot and 4:30pm slot when I checked at 2:30pm. Since I couldn't book an appointment, I decided to drive out there and total fail. I was informed they were fully booked the whole day. Then if that's the case then the website should be updated. For the #2 barbershop in Manila, totally failed on operations. Sucks! read more
