I am in love with their food. This is the first time I went and it was everything I wanted in Jamaican cuisine. I ordered the jerk chicken large meal which came with a lot of meat and rice and peas. My husband ordered the curry goat large meal with white rice. His food was tasty as well. I only gave it 4/5 stars because his meal had a lot of bones instead of meat for curry goat. The place was small and restricted with lots of people. They definitely get a crowd. Everyone was very prompt with taking orders. This place is pretty price so come with lots of money lol. Definitely my favorite restaurant in Jamaica Queens, as a pescatarian my options are limited, the shrimp curry is my go to dish here. The shrimp always feels fresh like no other shrimp, you can feel the cleanliness my friend agrees he felt the same with the chicken ( I don't eat meat but if I had to this would be the only place I buy it from). Ordered for pickup over the phones then I went to pick it up. I ordered a large curry goti roti. Also know as buss up shot. It was $14. I checked my bag before I left everything was there. I appreciate the packing of the curry goti because a lot of West Indian restaurants usually put it in a foil pan of some sort and it would leak out, but they used a plastic container to put the curry goat in which completely eliminates any chance of spills. I didn't enjoy the curry goat because it was mostly fat. The meat that I was able to eat from it was not seasoned very well. For me it was more so of something to just fill me because I was hungry it was not necessarily a great meal. I've had better. Ordered two beef patties with cocobread and other dishes for my partners at the hospital we work at. They didn't give me the cocobread and the patties where cold and dried out. Our GO-TO spot for stew Beef + cabbage + rice and peas + plantain. I want to try everything on the menu but the stewed beef is so freaking amazing I need it every time we order. And we order at least once a week. The spices are always on point - the takeout service has been phenomenal during the pandemic. I cannot gush enough about Genesis. The beef is always amazingly tender AND we get the fried dumpling to dip in the extra amazing sauce. We have tried many Jamaican/Caribbean spots in the area and none of them come close to Genesis. So I am giving them 3 stars instead of 1 solely because the food quality is actually 5 star!!! My issue is that this is the 5th time I have ordered (out of many times that I order or pick up) and they got the order wrong. I have been a customer of Genesis 1 for over 10 yrs. When I order for pick up, my orders are fine but on 5 of the many occasions I have ordered for delivery, they get something wrong. Sometimes I'm fine with the error and just accept and eat it but sometimes is not something I particularly eat or want to eat. For instance, I NEVER buy beef patties. I don't like the beef so I order chicken patties. Today I ordered some food and also asked for 4 chicken patties and they sent me 4 beef patties. I called about it and the lady responds by asking me if I don't eat beef???? That's not the point. I shouldn't be asked that question. I don't like beef patties. So this is what I did to one of the patty (see pic) . I ate the crust and threw the beef part out for the stray cats to eat it. I understand we are still addressing COVID but this has been an ongoing issue. I have devotedly supported Genesis as many others have during the COVID19 pandemic to support a great chef and restaurant that we appreciate the great quality of the food from, but this is getting to be exhausting. I am just thinking of not giving them my business anymore unless I go to pick up. No other restaurant that I order from sends me the wrong food. Genesis 1 needs to do better. Upon the earlier years of dating my husband, this was the place where we shared our first meal... like literally ate out of the same container, type of sharing. We come back here to get our Jerk Chicken on. Genesis sets the standard for comparison where ever we eat jerked anything. Nothing has come close to it! Their Oxtail and Curried Goat are a must try! The Oxtail is super tender and makes for a great medium to have a bone sucking contest. Try it, it's fun! All of their dishes are served with rice and peas, steamed cabbage and plantains. I use to eat here, my grandmother eating here at least 4 times a week. I even had them cater food for my baby shower in 2007. Food was always very good and the serving of food was plentiful. But I stopped. The women serving the food always had an attitude to the point you would be ready to take your back hand and leave a print on one's face. I ordered Genesis delivery while getting my hair done at a nearby salon. My stylist told me they had a lunch special, I had no idea what was offered, so I ordered what I get from most Caribbean restaurants: Stew Chicken. The delivery came in decent time. The Stew Chicken lunch special was $6.50 and it came with rice, cabbage, plantain, and I got a bottle of water. I believe the water came with the meal and I don't know if there were other beverage options. (I didn't make the call) I enjoyed my food. There was a lot of rice and a little bit of chicken with a little bit of meat on them but it is what it is. It was $6.50, I was hungry, they delivered, and it got the job done. read more

Very hard to find a west indian restaurant with good food AND good customer service and Genesis is one of them. Looks like a typical jamaican restaurant. The prices are typical too. To my knowledge they didn't run out of food while I was there. This was at 9pm. The staff was friendly and I didn't wait for my food to come out. The food when I got home was really really really good. Unlike Port Royal where they give you an attitude for everything and the food is hit or miss (mostly miss) Genesis is doing the simple things just right. The Jerk chicken plate I ordered was plentiful with lots of meat and equal portions rice and veggies. The chicken was tender and they give you extra sauce for the chicken. The same plate at Port Royal which cost more then put a mound of rice, a scoop of veggies and 2 hard to eat pieces of meat. Just thinking about it as I write this review is starting to irk me. Of course I gotta make a 2nd and 3rd trip here just to make sure the food and service is consistent. If anything changes I will be sure to update my review but so far Genesis is great and should be praised for the good work. They do take cards with a minimum. I ordered curry goat and white rice, rice was great but the curry goat was raw and completely pink inside! Not to mention i ate this and I'm pregnant, after noticing the pink and red inside of the goat i threw it up. I give them 3 stars for their oxtails but their curry goat i give a 2.. I usually order a large oxtail between 4pm and 5pm once a week..and its fresh with a good amount of meat. During rush hour you get a plate of rice and little meat i notice. Make sure you say gravy in the rice. read more

I don't know if it's the seasoning but if you want real spicy stew chicken - this is great! But authentic tasting Jerk chicken, it's not. Decided to try their food since it was recommended by a friend. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and beans and plantains. The staff was very friendly, but the food wasn't all that great. The jerk chicken needs seasoning, it taste like roast chicken and it was very dry. The rice and beans was dry too, no sauce nothing. The plantains were not sweet, it was half ripe, hard and dry. I was disappointed in the food because not one thing tasted great. I think the oxtail is an absolute must because the meat is SO tender. It just falls right off the bone, and I can tell that they took their precious time cooking it. The meat also comes with a choice of white rice or rice and beans along with cabbage and veggies. I tried the jerk chicken as well, and I can't really say that it is my favorite.
