I had a service tech to my home on 1/31/26, he stated I needed my furnace replaced, left the door off although I mentioned I had small children, cats and dogs who frequent the area and didn't put my heat sensor back. Had a yr old furnace checked. Checked AC said we should buy a new one.It was not even turned on. Paid the bill, thought we took the package deal. The air would be 8,00 or the up grade 9000,,after the $9000+ furnace . Now the ac works but turns off and sometimes comes on sometime not. I played with the thermostat,, only 2 wires,to get on. Says cooling, called Gene they had to search for the info, no leaflet left. I now have a model number but not a manufacturer. It is good for1 yr....Iwill be calling someone else..used them in1991 . Needed a mainline clog taken care of. I knew what the issue was, no diagnosis needed, I just didn't have the equipment myself to take care of it. I know things have gotten more expensive but a 600 dollar charge for snaking a drain, with labor being less than an hour just seems ridiculous. Had a similar issue 2 years ago and cost me 300. 7/29/2023 had a service call for our AC not working. $89 service call, $1200 for coolant, and $652 to install leak/dye sealant to prevent and seal existing leaks. Technician advised that the system is well past manufacturer projected life span (it is) and scheduled a six-week follow up to check coolant levels. Said he would send an estimate for replacing the system. We did receive information on a service contract, but nothing else. The repair ($1,941) only held for five days. Said the cost could be applied to purchase of a new system. Another service call 8/8/2023: "Upon inspection found system low on refrigerant. Found leak customer would like quote on replacement system. Would also get quote on repair of condenser." We have receive none of this information. While the system is old, I expected even a temporary fix to last more than a few days, or we wouldn't have invested $1941 in the system. 8/9/2023 reached out to ask for a partial refund on failed repair. Message has not been returned. Definitely don't plan on working with this company in the future. Poor customer communication. ***Update: 8/15/2023. Today we received the proposal for replacement options. Request for partial refund not addressed. read more

My family called Gene's twice to resolve a sewer line that was backing up. The first time we spent $564. They clear enough of the sewer line because within a week it started backing up again. We called and they came out again. This time they said they cleaned the line out for 20 feet. We spent $478 for the second visit and were given a "discount" for a job they were there to fix. Again, after a week it started backing up again. After spending over $1,000 with Gene's, we have made repeated calls without returned calls or any resolution. We called another company to clean out the sewer line. The second company completed the job in one visit. Don't call Gene's unless you like throwing money down the sewer line. read more

I have mixed feelings... I have a service plan, but my mom and my brother don't. My brother got the denial on a coupon for his furnace check today because he used one for his AC earlier in the year. My mom has a warranty on a part for her furnace that needs replaced, but the tech was so focused on trying to sell her a new furnace and air duct cleaning. When I had them over, they were fixated on the age of my AC and how I should replace it when it still works. This is where I got really confused: I called to schedule for AC clean & check + a clean and check on my tankless hot water heater. Visit 1: Someone came out to look at my water heater only, said it was installed wrong, and it would need repaired (did not clean). I think I might've paid $89, I'm not sure. I can't remember. Visit 2: Office schedules someone else, they said it was fine. This person didn't clean/check the water heater nor the AC, but sat down to talk to me about duct cleaning and upgrades. I'm super confused because I thought I was getting clean & checks. Visit 3: A man & woman hastily come to clean & check my AC. A plumber arrives at the same time to clean/check the tankless. The man & woman find something to repair on the AC. They kinda rush through the explanation, I pay in a daze, but I want a service plan because I have the tankless, reverse osmosis, water softener, the AC, and the furnace. Plus the plumber is still working. I didn't know they drove separately. I pay for the AC job because they seem rushed. The plumber is more relaxed (Jeff Lardo - he's the man. Hire him) sits down and explains everything to me about service plans, my hot water tank, my RO system filters, what Gene's can do, toilets (I need to replace one). I get the service plan. Epilogue: I have to contact the office to get the AC repair figured out with the service plan I wanted to buy. They're nice about it. Bonus - My mom's visit I experienced: I was at my mom's house and a jolly tech from Texas was here to clean/check my mom's furnace. Nice enough guy, I liked him. I prickled when he called my injured dog "fatso," lol. But it was said in an affectionate way. My dog is a bit chubby, haha. It felt more like Gene's was pushing a sales agenda more than providing HVAC services. It's depressing because my family has been using Gene's since the 1970s. My mom did get the UV light installed because those are genuinely good products, but trying to strong arm an older lady into a new furnace when she has a lifetime warranty on one part that needs replaced felt bad. It felt like they were doing the strong arm on me as well since I was a woman. It felt bad. But the work was done well. The tech was really nice. Bonus bonus - My brother's phone call: My brother just called to make an appointment for his furnace. Since he used a coupon for his AC, he was told his furnace would be $120. He said no thank you. But he said the office person was nice. He is going to find another place to take care of his furnace. Had Genes come out to evaluate repairing my under counter refrigerator. Cost me 130 for the visit and 89 for the hour visit. The tech on-site stated it was the compressor and it would be about 900 to replace. Flash forward 2 weeks- I called them back to have them come fix it only to be informed that they don't work on that type of undercounter refrigerator even though I told them what it was. The lead tech person I spoke with said they would refund the 89 for the hour labor as it would have been obvious to the tech on-site that they don't work on it. Still no refund. 3 weeks later. Update - received the 89 credit after this was posted. Part was under warranty unless places just send stuff for free. I did not pay for the compressor. read more

Arranged to have someone here on Monday only to be told that they couldn't get parts and would be back on Tuesday when I called to ask that they schedule for after 4 the dispatcher was a rude. I asked for a manger to call me. He did and was nice and said that could be arranged. Then upon getting the estimate for the upcoming work they are charging 175. 00 for a part that Home Depot sells for 8.00 and the tank that they are charging us over 400 dollars for at Home Depot is 85.00. They are totally ripping people off. I will not give them another dime have cancelled the install and will complete myself for less. Recently our AC unit stopped working... we called Gene's and they were here the next day. Matthew came out and fixed it super fast and told us a bunch of details on why it was broken. Then, we realized the next day that it was just blowing air, not cool air. We called them back and Matt came back the next day and knew exactly what to fix and now our AC is working better then it ever has, and it's 30 years old, so that pretty good. I have used Gene's for approximately 15 years. But recently service has taken a tumble. I don't see the same techs any longer. I ordered a new humidifier for my furnace. Here's what happened. I called to get a quote and set up appointment. No call back. After third day I had the customer service manager on the phone. Set up appointment. Ater about a week and a half the techs showed up and had the wrong humidifier. Had to wait about an hour until they delivered another one. Then they installed it and couldn't get the humidistat to function. They left my house. Now it has been about two weeks and I am now waiting for someone to show up and get the humidistat working. I would not recommend this company. It was the friday before memorial day weekend And my hot water tank was spraying water... I CallEd here and the lady asked me to take a pick of my tank and serial number and she would have someone come out to replace...I said wait..my tank is only 8 yrs old how do you know that I need a new tank .She said OH honey, you need a new tank...so she sent someone out who immediately told me I need a new tank..said your looking at about 2k!! I said what!? I can get the same exact tank for 540.00 at Home Depot are you seriously charging me another 1500.00 for labor? He gave me a story saying they don't use home depot tanks they aren't as good . So being at their mercy I said ok.(I needed water) In meantime found 50 dollar coupon on their website for new customers...so an hour or so later comes in and tells me the amount of 2100 +, that's with the 50 dollar coupon off too...I was told to sign the computer for agreement to pay with card. I was not given a receipt or breakdown of the costs..nothing! I called the office the next business day, I asked for an itemized receipt She was very pleasant and told me she would send it to my email and she did. Only problem was it was just the amount I paid. That's it. No breakdown of the cost. So I called back and asked again for an itemized receipt. She said oh sure! Sent me another...same exact thing! Called back again and told her I need a breakdown of the costs...she said OH we don't do that!???? She said we just charge one flat Rate... That way, if somebody has an eight hour long job, they're only charged one amount, and then if somebody has a smaller job, it's still the same amount. O k that makes no sense to me but... I wasn't happy about any of this and I felt like I was ripped off... Taken advantage of... Then a week later, I get a tin of candy and nuts thanking me for being a new customer . Then about a month later got a phone call asking if I want to take.care of my remaining 40.00 balance!!!!!! That took the cake! What balance I asked!? I paid the amount in full on my credit card and signed your technicians computer. I was told maybe he put it in wrong... But there are still a balance of forty dollars. I said no there's not! We went back n forth ...they sent me a receipt 2 more times that had the 2122. Total and pd. And 0 balance on it... But they kept saying there was a forty dollar balance. I told them they need to figure it out because i'm not paying any more. I said what am I paying forty dollars for the tin of candy and nuts. They said they would get back to me I have not heard from them since. I have contacted the consumer affairs. This should not be able to be going on. Yes everybody was nice but.... Love these guys! We were new to the area when we moved to Medina last year and suddenly our dryer stopped drying clothes due to a blockage in the dryer vent. They sent someone (I forgot the gentleman's name, nice kid that reminded me of my little brother) out the next day and cleared the blockage! We then scheduled a duct cleaning as our new house had very dirty vents, they showed up promptly when scheduled and between the two guys got our whole house (we have a lot of vents) done in a couple hours. Just yesterday our kitchen sink backed up and we had a blockage far down in the pipe, I called the 24/7 number and was put on the schedule for the next day (today). Jeff had the pipe cleared out within an hour! As a stay at home soon-to-be mom, it's nice to know I can trust these guys coming into the house and getting the job done right. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Called a week in advance and made an appointment for a plumber for 2pm on the following Friday. Was quoted a cost of $89 for the drain service I needed. By 5pm that day,, no one had shown up. Call the company, I am told that someone would call be back. 6:30, no one has called. I call again and am told the plumber will call me back. An electrician calls me ten minutes later, asking about an emergency call. I explain that, no, I made an appointment for a plumber a week ago, and no one has shown up. He tells me he will call the dispatcher and find out what is going on. 7pm, no one has called back. I call the dispatcher again, and they do not know where the plumber is, exactly. Finally, at 8pm, I get a call from the plumber that they are on their way. They (a plumber and a trainee) show up and work on the drain in the basement. after an hour, they explain that this evening's service will cost $178 (double what I was quoted on the phone) , and that everything should be find now. Within 24 hours, the drain was backing up again, and this time, it stunk to high heaven as well. I will never use this company again. read more

Our air conditioner stopped working at 10:15 PM, on what had been a 92 degree day, (to be followed by a 95 degree day) we called Gene's immediately, and were completely fixed by 11:15 PM! I can't believe how quick they took care of our problem- the technician arrived at our house within 10 minutes, installed the new the part- which he had in his truck- and the bill was only about $450! Questionable: I have an electric boiler furnace and I wanted a safety inspection. The first guy didn't know anything about electric boilers,( they have worked on my stuff before and had record of what my furnace is and the system, I doubled checked before making appt.) I called them back and they said they would send someone out who did.........4 days later ! appt. scheduled between 10 to 2 pm...He showed up at 6 30pm (after we called 3 times) When he examined the valves, one of the release valves started leaking also and could not get it too stop Then the Furnace would not turn on : Tech Didn't exam it thoroughly in my opinion , they were more interested in selling me a new one. They saw old pipes and said the pressure valve was dangerous and could not relieve pressure safely. This concerned us , so I called an old friend of mine to look at it (he does commercial heating and cooling). He opened up the electric panel on the furnace and cleaned the connection points and reseated the wires and ...BOOM, the furnace came right on. He then raised the pressure in the pipes to see if the pressure valve worked correctly...40 PSI, it released the pressure to stay at 20PSI just like it has for the last 25 years. After I told Gene's I didn't want the furnace but would like to have that leak fixed....I never heard a word back from them.. All in all, cost me $70, and not $4,789.00 for a replacement ...now granted, I will need a new one soon, it is old....but that wasn't the solution to this problem. I don't trust them. Been with Gene's for 4 or 5 years. Had them install our new a/c and furnace and we have a multi-year service contract with them. In April we needed 2 toilets repaired - one with a very small leak (would dampened one paper towel per day) and the second would take 15 minutes for the tank to fill. I had the flu and was running a temperature when the plumber came out so I told him where the rooms were and stayed out of the way. He finished in, I thought, under 1 hour and told me with our service contract we saved something like $90. I wasn't taking everything in due to the fever and didn't want to pass whatever I had on to him so I signed the pad. MY MISTAKE! The electronic invoice comes in for $378. $378!! The job description states 'rebuilt 2 toilets'! $378! The toilets were not replaced - no copper lines soldered - no cutting out sections of walls to get to pipes - just a few repair parts. $378. I began calling and spoke to office manager Kim who said she would take this up with the 'new owner Keith - Keith is the original owner's son... She got back to me and said when she reviewed my invoice he had apparently said 'is that all he (the plumber) charged?'!!! With that she was able to get a $50 refund. I still felt $328 for 45 minutes worth of work and $30 worth of parts was out of line. After 5 more calls she said there was nothing more she could do; I asked Keith to call me. This was in April. Since then either leaving messages at their office or through their maintenance techs I continued to ask Keith to call me. NADA - not stellar customer service. Today, Aug. 15, I finally got someone to breakdown my invoice. She said the plumber was at my house for 1 hour and 15 minutes because they use GPS time stamping. Hmmmm...what if he had to make a few phone calls before he left - it was on my time? Anyway, she said that the flat rate for the plumber is $235 an hour. This is not a misprint! TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS AN HOUR so since their GPS said he was there for 1 hour and 15 minutes the labor charge was $293.75! She also, now, found that 'parts' were $80 some dollars - I still don't have an itemized statement so I don't know if that could be remotely correct. She claims that they have been billing this way with no complaints. I told her this rate is obscene and I should have been informed of this flat rate hourly charge when I made this appointment. So if you plan to get plumbing work done please verify your flat rate with this company; I called one of their competitors after I ended this call and asked what they charged to have a plumber do various plumbing jobs and I was quoted $85 an hour. Oh, and by the way, $235 an hour - without overtime for weekends, nights or holidays - equates to a yearly salary of $488,800 a year - most likely more than most of your healthcare professional make. read more

After a flooded basement, my water heater needed service. My particular unit gives a trouble code and I gave them the information regarding the code when I called along with the unit name, model, etc. The technician arrived inspected the unit and determined that it needed a sensor and stated that his boss would give me a call that evening and order the part. I had to cut them a check for the service call even though he basically did nothing. I assumed they'd be prepared since the trouble code is pretty specific as to what the problem was. I never got a call that evening. Then next day, I called first thing in the morning and the person who answered the phone said they had computer issues and someone would call me later. No call. I called the following day, the same gal took my number again and said she'd check with the parts department and call me back. No call. After some research, I determined the part was only $25. Realistically, what are they going to make off of my job? Not much. That explains why they never called me. As a business owner myself, I'm smart enough to realize that the small jobs have every potential to become large jobs at any point in time. Gene's is not that smart. I like these guys. First time I used them was when my furnace quit working in the middle of winter. Other HVAC contractors tried to sell me their maintenance plan before the would even schedule an appointment. Gene's got a tech to my house within a few hours and fixed the problem. Only then did he try to sell me their plan. I declined but used them again for an inspection and cleaning earlier this year. The tech was on-time, quick and efficient. This time, I purchased the maintenance plan. Chris was the tech who came most recently. Looked over my system but didn't try to sell me anything. Mine is approximately 20 years old and we discussed the age but he recommended against any repairs until the system would be replaced. Honest and fast. Can't ask for anything more. read more

We have had a contract with Gene's for 15 years both at our previous home and at our newer home. We have them check the furnace in the fall and air conditioner in the Spring. We have always been extremely happy with their service. If we have issues in between, they are quick to respond and resolve the issue quickly and completely. They have always been on time and the cost is what they tell us in advance.
