I was hustling through the Minneapolis airport headed to my gate when my bag began to wobble. The wobble got wilder and I look down in time to see the wheels roll right off my bag. I stood for a moment in disbelief. "This would be hilarious" I thought, "if it was happening to someone else!" Back home I swung by Vic's on Soledad. He couldn't fix it and said that no one else in Santa Clarita would be able to either. Well, he was right. But Gene isn't in Santa Clarita. Gene was confident and enthusiastic and once I sent him a photo he said he could fix it without too much trouble. It took him a while to get it done but I had another bag to use in the mean time so that wasn't an issue. Once my bag was fixed he even drove it up to my place and dropped it off! I bought a Ricardo spinner luggage from Costco 2 years ago and after several domestic and international trips, a wheel broke. I went to Ricardo website, claimed for warranty and got an email from Ricardo giving Gene's Luggage as their authorized service provider near my area. I phoned Gene and he was very friendly and accommodating. We agreed that I email him first pictures of the luggage, tag inside and the broken wheel to check if the luggage is still under warranty which turned out to be still under warranty. Gene ordered the wheel from Ricardo and when it came in I got a call from him. I brought in the luggage and he repaired it in less than 10 minutes. It was a seamless warranty claim and repair. Somewhere between Orlando and Burbank, Southwest Airlines lost the handle on my luggage. As it was only two years old I wanted to repair it, not replace it. Gene helped me with that and in just a few days he had a new handle and attached it, no problem! His hours are flexable so I was able to pick up after work, which I really appreciate. Having traveled extensively over the last 40 years I have accumulated a lot of luggage. Unfortunately the current airline restrictions do not allow my 22" carry on on many carriers. I needed a 21inch or less lightweight but sturdy spinner that didn't cost as much as my Sony LCD television. Luggage stores are a dying breed in Los Angeles. I made the trek to Savinar's which was useful because they introduced me to Roncato luggage (at $475 a bag). This led me to EBay where Gene offered the exact same bag for $249. As I couldn't wait for the item to ship (traveling in less than 5 days) I went to Gene's store in Sylmar where he has some of the best luggage at THE BEST PRICES I have ever seen. I've relied on Gene's luggage for over a decade for my travel luggage and 'gadgets' needs. There really is a 'Gene' and when it comes to travel, he is one of the most knowledgeable people I've ever encountered. Among a zillion other things, he's helped me compare travel purses to find just the right ones for me, got me turned on to using 'pack-it' zippered luggage compartments for keeping my clothing and small items in order when I travel, and he cleverly recommended selecting different colors for different types of clothing so I can quickly see which pack has pants (blue!) or shirts (red!) when I'm getting ready in my hotel room. Gene is also skilled at finding ways to repair quality luggage, and I've taken 4 bags to him over the years which have been rejuvenated brilliantly.
