I was excited to be able to get it done so quickly. At 4PM, he called to advise he was running a bit behind schedule. No problem. At 6PM he called to say he was on his way and was 45 mins. away according to his GPS. Again, no problem for me. I will also note he went on to advise there would be a "travel fee" since I was further away then he typically services. But again, no problem as I was simply glad to have found someone who seemed trustworthy and could do the work same day! Well, he never showed up. I tried calling a few time (left messages) and sent a text message the next day to inquire if he was okay, got lost, etc? No reply. Nothing. Its now over a week gone by, and still no follow up. I simply hope he is ok. At the same time, if this is not the case and he simply chose to "turn around" and cancel my appt. - unprofessional. Sorry, was hoping I could have written a really awesome review, but that is not the case.

My experience with Handyman Kai was horrible. He turned a simple drywall job into a three-day…read morenightmare that was left incomplete. He was tasked with detecting the source of a leak and doing a drywall repair and paint job. He did a good job finding where the leak was, but everything went downhill from there. The problem began when he was dishonest about several things. He said he had someone to fix the leak because he "didn't do heights", but that person never materialized. Handyman Kai tried to fix that part himself. Then, he claimed I bought the wrong drywall product, but he said it was still "ok". But he kept using that as an excuse for why the project was not progressing as planned instead of recognizing he was in over his head. Next, he initially underpriced the job and later wanted more money. I wanted to pay him what was fair because I valued his time. I was very polite to him under extremely annoying circumstances that he created. He did not have a ladder or a blow-dryer/fan to do the project on time. So, we had to wait for the mud to dry naturally. This took hours/days of unnecessary extra time. The area he was patching was approximately 28 by 20. It was not a large area at all. He was clearly disgruntled, and it appeared to affect his mood. He asked me for half of the balance on the second day. I paid him considerably more than half. That left me with a minimal balance to pay him. Then he did the unthinkable. He requested someone else to complete the job on FB for $75 (he has since deleted the post). I still gave him the benefit of the doubt in an effort to allow him to finish a job that was a mess to begin with. Painter's tape was exposed, and cracks were seen throughout the job. I offered him more money than I owed to motivate him to finish the project. After our in-person conversation, where we agreed on the amount, he cancelled the job by text after he left. Now, I have an unfinished ceiling, and I have to pay someone else to come out and redo the job. So, he claims he made no money on the job because he had to pay this imaginary person who did not exist. Yet, he offers to give me a partial refund in a week. Does that make any sense at all? He makes things up as he goes along. Handyman Kai demonstrated a lack of integrity, and I did not appreciate the double-talk I received from him. Good luck if you choose him for a project. Found Merv via Yelp, and though we didn't hire him, he still gets 5 stars. Here's why…read more.. Came to the estimate appointment as scheduled. Was very courteous. Made sure to give us the worst-case scenario, so we wouldn't have any surprises once the work started. Took the time to carve an outlet hole in a wall, to get a better idea of what he'd be working with, and therefore give us a more accurate estimate. Actually installed an outlet box, while he was at it. At no charge. I felt like we should have tipped him! He didn't rush through the estimate at all, and was helpful with all the questions we had. The only reason we didn't hire him, was because hubby determined he could do the work himself (luckily, no electrocution injuries have been sustained thus far). But Merv also gave us an estimate for a second project, that we're unable to do ourselves, and will likely be calling him up for when funds permit!

I needed my whole house to be re-wired. Ahmed came in and thoroughly looked over the house before giving me an estimate. He and Jose really seemed to know what they were talking about and their price was quite a bit better than the next competitor. They gave me a price estimate and then said that the job would be done in three to five days (this time-frame was given to me in writing). A MONTH later they still hadn't finished the work. Many of the reviews here mention how awesome Ahmed and Jose are. I only saw Ahmed in my house once during the project. He farmed much of the work out to sub-contractors who, while polite, didn't really seem to have a handle on what they were doing. One kept telling me about all of the times he had electrocuted himself (he proceeded to electrocute himself in my living room). They cut a hole in an exterior wall straight into my living room while trying to install a floodlight and just left the hole. Most of the outlet holes they cut were WAY too big for the outlets and left just gaping holes all over my house. They tore up the ceiling in my bathroom, leaving it impossible to repair. They cut two holes in my bedroom ceiling to install one smoke detector. Aside from the fact that this project took literally 10 times longer than estimated, it was done so poorly I just don't understand where all of the positive reviews have come from. Here's the kicker. Ahmed came into my house after his crew had been working for a month. I walked him through the house showing him all of the incorrectly installed outlets, the holes in the walls, the destroyed ceiling in my bathroom, etc etc etc. He said "I think we did pretty good here, this project came along well." I was flabbergasted. Was this actually the level of success he was going for? He then proceeded to tell me that his team had to go above and beyond because I hadn't asked them to install a plug for a sump-pump under my house. He told me he wanted to charge me for this extra work. This was news to me as I had paid the crawlspace company to do that work. I called the crawlspace company and they assured me that they had indeed done that install themselves. When I confronted Ahmed about it, he backed down. He wasn't here when the install happened anyways so how would he know? He also told me that I should be grateful because they paid for the smoke detectors they installed. They didn't ask me about installing smoke detectors, they didn't tell me this should have been an extra charge or ask me how I'd like to pay for it. Instead they installed them and then told me later that I should have paid for them. ????? Ahmed also asked me for more money ahead of time during the project. The contract clearly stated that I was to pay X amount up front and the remainder when the project passed the inspection. He told me that he had to pay his guys and needed a middle payment. I was NOT going to go ahead and just hand him cash early. This was three weeks past the date he said he was going to be done by. He told me to check the contract. I did. He was wrong. With this motivator, he actually got to the point of getting the inspection done. They of course failed the inspection the first time. This isn't abnormal but the frustrating part was the amount of things they just tried to hide from the inspector. For a complete re-wire they're supposed to remove all old wiring from the house. This has not been done to this day. They got the old wiring that they thought the inspector would be able to see and just left the rest. I paid them to get it to pass inspection and they did. I guess I should have been more specific. He claimed that the project ended up being more difficult because they had to go through my attic with the wiring instead of through my crawlspace. We had completely discussed this challenge ahead of time however. I showed him the attic and he actually climbed up there before even giving me the estimate. He knew the scope of the project from the start, using that as an excuse was not going to work. It's been a couple of weeks since they left and I'm still cleaning up after them. Last week I tried one of the outdoor outlets they installed and when I was pulling the plug back out of the outlet, it just came completely out of the wall. It wasn't attached at all. Today I found a plug behind a bookshelf that wasn't attached to the plug box. Plugs aren't flush to the walls. I've reinstalled 6 of the plugs they've done already. I'm sure if I pestered Ahmed he would eventually send someone over to re-do some of these jobs but I'm well past this point. Every time they came in to my house they created as many problems as they solved. It's easier at this point to just fix things myself. Bottom line: Jose is great, otherwise stay away from Wired Up.
