We had a issue with a broken garage (spring) that needed to get repaired. My car was stuck in the garage and I could not get the garage to open manually because the way the spring was pulling/broken. We called several
companies and we're very pleased that General Garage Repair agreed to come the very next day. They scheduled a estimated time of arrival between 10am-11am. At 11:30am they had not called nor showed up. My Husband finally called them and they said they would arrive by 12noon. At approximately 12:30pm they arrived. The technician appeared hurried and bothered. He did however quickly diagnose this "issue" as a broken spring. He offered to replace the spring at a price of $475 (3 year warranty) or $925 (10 year warranty). I quickly investigated the price of a spring replacement and discovered they actually cost to replace the part anywhere between $50-$100. I questioned him about this price discrepancy and also questioned what his labor rate/hour (he quoted me $85/hr) and how long it would take. He told he that it would be done within 20mins. I verbalized my concern over such a inflated price and suggested that I buy the spring and that he return to install it at later time. He said he could not/would not do that and went on to say "I'm paying for his license, etc, etc". "I paying for him to show up". I was very frustrated and had him then call my Husband (who was not home at the time). He was very rude to my husband on the phone and said "I don't have time for this", "this is a good price", etc. The price somehow came down to $375 in that conversation miraculously. Out the door $399 (with taxes). My husband reluctantly authorized the work because it was a Sunday and I just needed to get my car out and by this time I had wasted half the day waiting on them. On Monday, I did some research of my own to verify all the statements made from the Tech at General Garage Repair. Apparently we had been swindled. The work should have/would have cost at least one third to one half of what we were actually charged. I will never use nor recommend General Garage Repair to anyone again. I could not justify the way I was spoken to as a customer, but was extremely disturbed by the lies and cost inflation and simply just to taken advantage of by this company. Run away as far as possible from General Garage Repair unless you want to be taken advantage of, lied to, and no regard to customer service.
**Update from response below**
9/5/17
Owner of General Garage Repair called me and yelled at me "how dare I post this review" and demanded that I remove my review. He tried to explain to me that even though his technician responded to my appointment booked directly with General Garage Repair, even though the technician gave me a invoice billed directly from General Garage Repair, even though I wrote my check directly payable to General Garage Repair, and even though his Technician handed me a Business Card with all of General Garage Repairs information--- that that technician was "working for another company", and this "this was not his problem". This company is even MORE ludicrous than I originally thought! I can't believe the owner of this company is even worse than the technicians he chooses to employ.
**Update of Review**
Owner replied to my review via email and continues to provide the excuse that the technician that responded to my Home for the repair "was working for another company at the time he services my garage opener". I responded that he was paid with a check payable to "General Garage" and the owner hung up on me. I guess there was simply not an excuse on how in the world the check could have been cashed when it was made to an entirely different company. Hmmmm, interesting!! The owner and this company is a joke! read more
