Brace yourself for an old school, large scale plating factory replete with lots of people doing various jobs. My initial trip here was for a large format doorknob I designed and had manufactured elsewhere. Allan and his team were great in plating it to have a worn, bronze look. Exactly what I wanted. My most recent trip involved having a back plate for a custom light fixture plated. I had manufactured it elsewhere and brought it here to color match to the original hardware. Took the copper cookware I bought in France over 30 years ago in for re-tinning and after Mr. Olick and his crew was done with them, they looked better than new! When I asked about the environmental fee, he patiently explained how all the the state's over-the-top environmental regulations cost him over a hundred thousand dollars a year in compliance costs. Even more, he educated me on the ever-increasing cost of doing business in California - thanks to the anti business policies and laws passed be the state legislature and leftist governor. Right up front I admit I did not use this establishment's services. I bet they do a fine job. But I had an experience there that I wanted to share. My job is tiny -- I need an old family heirloom baby cup re-silver-plated. So I went to General Brite and the owner met me to write up my order and charge me the $150 minimum. No problem. It's a big operation, they clearly do lots of big industrial jobs and don't need the hassle of my tiny job. I was glad they were willing to do it. The owner seemed nice enough. But as he was writing up my order, he started to ask me whether I like Governor Newsome, and started to complain that his environmental and Covid policies were ruining his business. Kept asking me if I liked the governor. I asked him, aren't you afraid to talk politics with customers, for fear you will drive them away? I don't care, he said, I have more money than I know what to do with. (! -- can't be hurting your business that much then, can it, I didn't think to say.) Anyway he kept going with his anti-Newsom rant. I finally looked at him and said, you know, politics is so divisive these days, people get angry, I understand that. But you are so strident, and it's clear we have differing political views, that now you are making me worry about leaving my family heirloom here. He just stared at me, or maybe said something like, "...and?" I said "OK then," picked up my tiny silver baby cup and started walking out. He ripped up my paperwork and assured me he would have taken good care of my piece. Maybe, maybe not. I kinda doubt he harangues his big customers about politics. He certainly won't miss my $150. But it seems clear that if you are a Democrat, or just don't like mixing business and politics, you should look elsewhere for plating services. read more

I used this company two years ago to remove the gold plating from a spigot and handle set for a bathtub and to replate them in a satin nickel finish. Initially I was concerned about some reviews/reports I had read online about their turn around time and also issues communicating with the company. However, I was pleasantly surprised that after some initial delay in getting ahold of them that they kept me appraised of their progress towards completion of the order. As I needed the parts to close escrow on the house I was updating, meeting the quoted delivery time was important (which they did). The quality of the work was simply outstanding, and the price was less than purchasing replacement parts in satin nickel (which were no longer available). Amazing company! I had almost given up finding a place that would apply a chrome finish on my old wrought iron coffee table, which looked terrible when I bought from an online dealer. General Brite Plating did a fantastic job of chrome plating it, were delightful to work with, gave the table special attention, charged me a reasonable price, and ventured an educated guess that that its top is probably from a 150-year-old Spanish door. They had to do my bike frame 3 times, and I'm still not happy with it, taking my forks straight to another plater to be redone, the first time the frame was done they said it was my metal, but ironically the second time they were able to correct that blemish, but then there was another blemish from the wire they hung the frame from. I feel as if they think I should be grateful for them redoing my stuff, but it should have gotten done right the first go around. The frame still has chrome dross where the seatpost goes, so who knows if I'll be able to finish that off without messing the chrome up. More than likely I'll have the frame and for sure the forks done at another shop. Super disappointed, and out a lot of money only to have to pay someone else to redo it. Went in to see if they could polish a badly soiled and tarnished copper pot. Their minimum is $150, which was too much for the job, but the VP gave me a tutorial on how to clean it myself, and gave me the pad I needed to do it with. He spent a lot of time showing me how to do it. So even though I didn't end up having them do the job, I am very appreciative that they took the time to help me out! read more

After searching for years for a company that would dip my moms silver plated flatware, I came across General Brite, contacted them via email and phone and they were incredibly helpful. I live in Napa Ca and wasn't able to see them in person. The flatware was purchased from JC PENNY around 1965. Although my job was to was dry and place it back in its box, I'm pretty certain it was never polished over the next almost 60 years. For a few years I've been using General for plating and it was hit and miss to be honest. The key to this place is getting to know the correct people. Everyone here is really cool, so know that going in. Being a designer/maker my attention to detail is very strict and that's going to mean reworks in pieces at times. Plating is not easy and made even more difficult for these guys when your parts aren't prepped properly. Patience is a must here and it goes both ways. David Trinidad is a rock god here and his dad Trino. The two are as invested in you getting what you want and they're easy to work with. Remember...you may have have a do over and that's part of the process. Allow time if possible and if it's not be as cool as you can be because they will appreciate it. read more

I found General Brite Plating online and took a chance by sending a family heirloom -- a silver tray for a tea set -- to them for replating. They provided a very fair price quote up front and didn't change the price. They replated the tray within a week or so and sent it back to me. When I opened up the package, I found that they had packaged it with great care so that it would not be damaged in transit. They did a beautiful job replating the tray--it looks perfect! We brought in a lamp to get worked on and the man gave us an agreed upon price then after he collected our personal info, he said to give him a week & he'd either call or email to let us know when it's done. Several weeks went by w/no phone call or email. I kept trying to call and the lady kept sending me to someone's voicemail. I left messages that were never returned. Then when I called for the 3rd time the voicemail box was full. The 4th time I called, nobody at all answered any of the phones so we had to drive down there to see what was going on. When we got there, they said the lamp had been finished a couple weeks ago. When I told them I couldn't get a hold of anyone to ask about it ...none of them cared. Then when it was time pay, they tried charging us $300 more than the agreed upon price!! Who does that? To say the Least it's extremely bad business but if you ask my actual opinion it's extortion. We told them we are only paying the original agreed price. We will never go back there. You can't get a hold of them ...no one calls you ...none of them care ...& then they try to F*** you on the price at the end. No thx!! read more

l left Brite Plating years ago because of their poor quality and they never disappoint in that regard. Today we opened a box of satin chrome grommets plated by Brite... These parts are covered with Chill Marks and discoloration, and this not the first time! I was never going to publicly comment on these people, but the lingering, deliberate poor quality that they, in my opinion, try to slip by their customers is so inappropriate, and if you dare to address it, you are cursed at by Trino. Not to mention their questionable pricing practice of quoting one price then doubling the actual price once your items are ready. The best thing I EVER did was get away from Brite Plating. They are by far, the worst plating company I have ever done business with in 35 years in this industry. Being there are so many parts in a door handle to dis-assemble before plating and re-assemble Alan ( the owner of the company ) took it upon himself to come to my home and install the door handles himself . He quotes one price then changes the price when you pick up your items and if you do not agree to pay his increased price he threatens to hold your items hostage. Furthermore, he gives customers timelines that he doesn't meet and makes customers wait for several weeks beyond their promised date for their items. Lastly, when you try to call or email him for updates he NEVER responds or returns calls then plays dumb when you ask him why he never responded. Do not waste your time with Alan.
