It's a disappointment I used to go to there auction when they used to be in Buena Park it was good back then cause it was in person bidding but ever since they moved it to there current location everything changed now you bid online and sometimes you really don't know what you're buying since you're bidding on a picture online so sometimes they might move items from the lot numbers they be doing some sketchy things up in their auction when no one is looking read more

I used to like this place when it was in Buena Park , CA . Until I got familiar of how they operate. They claim to send your check for an item you sold 30 days after it sold. Which is a long period to wait anyways. I took a big joe electric pallet jack that is worth from $2,000 to $3,000 . Supposedly it only sold for $285. They never emailed me the invoice. They told me it sold July 7th, I brought it in June and still have not received my check. I have called them and emailed them multiple times. Also they are very rude and assume the customer is the problem. Sell your stuff online instead. Sometimes they will delay payment, or in my case not pay at all. Also they buy stuff in their auctions to re sell in their auctions, shady business. And supposedly they say there is no reserve. I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED MY PAYMENT FOR MY BIG JOE ELECTRIC PALLET JACK . CROOKS!!! read more

I went by GAC to pick up a pallet of computers for a club (The Free Computer Club) at the high school I teach at (MSA3). I had no idea what I was doing, but the staff was patient in answering my questions. I was able to get six viable machines to fix up and give out to the students for $59 (after fees). I also got a few spare parts and some ancient (over 20 years old) computers for the students to practice on. The pallet also included some ancient photo development equipment and printers that I had no use for, but I couldn't fit in my car, so I went inside after the auction to ask if I HAD to figure out a way to take it all. The guy I talked to agreed to dispose of the oldest junk AND, after I explained how I needed it for my students, he volunteered to pull a few computers to give away to my club before the next auction! That will mean that any students who want to learn how to repair computers with me can get their own at home. Thanks GAC! read more

Not sure why I even gave 2 stars. Buyers beware. Yes I read there policies but I kind of figured there's no way they charge you 20 dollars for a 5 dollar lot but if that is bad then they charge you 14%. I bought a 1 mlb card but for 5 dollars it would be cool to own not my card is 27.50 What a waste. Stood around for 20 minutes till someone ask if I needed help. Bottom line you buy a car u won't even think of the 20 dollars the take from u but u buy something cheap know they are going to hammer everything they can. That's why they want 500 dollars first so they can get there's before you find out ur screwed. Stay away from this one. There's to many others that don't screw you out of money read more

I know I made the right decision when I bought a car from the General Auction Company a year ago as it's still running great today! I was a very skeptical buyer as I was a first timer & knew absolutely nothing! I am honestly so thankful that the staff were all amazing & helpful ! I have never meet a more genuine bunch! They were soo happy for me when I won the first & only car (2010 Ford Focus) I had placed a bid on! As I was waiting to fill out the paperwork that comes afterwards I was really having doubts & was starting to second guess myself as I needed a reliable family car that wasn't going to break the bank. I almost backed out & would have paid the fees that that are associated with it. However, They brought in the General Manager Giuseppe to be the voice of reason. By far one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life! He took me back to the car & listened to everyone of my concerns as I started to nit pick. He didn't try to sell me on anything or pressure me into keeping the vehicle. I remember him saying that he just wanted to provide more information about the car as he knew it better then anyone. After he explained that it was a county car being auctioned & it did have a minor over heating problem when it came in however it was fixed. I was informed that the cars do get looked at by their mechanics that are bought by the public even though they are as is. Me being me .. I was still on the fence about it but then he offered to have the mechanics take another look at the car which would give me a few days so I had time to think. I was promised that I didn't have to take the car if I didn't want too. When I came back I was was informed that there might be an issue with the motor mounts. I know when you buy a used car at an auction the car is as is. However, In good faith if I take it home & it turns out to be an issue that they would assist in fixing it. I felt 1000x better leaving with the car after. They did keep their promise when I brought the car back a little later. I have never had such exceptional service like I have had here. I truly mean it. I get so many compliments & offers on my car from family & friends. I definitely will be coming back! read more

A 2001 Mercedes Benz sold for $2,700, a 2003 Land Rover sold for $4,700 and a clean 1993 Lexus sold for $3,600. Those are just a few deals you will find at GAC. My guy and I went to the auction this past weekend looking for me a vehicle, however, we were out bidded on the cars that I wanted. The auction offers trucks, cars, construction equipment, jewelry, computers and much more. It is open to the public and they only have them once or twice a month. they have a great policy - pay $75.00 along with the purchase price of your vehicle you can drive the car for two days (enough time to have your mechanic check it out to make sure it's running properly, as with any pre-owned vehicle have it checked by a professional before you committ to it- luckily my man is a licensed mechanic so that's not a problem for me) and if you don't like it for any reason take it back and you will receive a full refund no questions asked (that's why you pay the $75.00). The vehicles have been smogged to so you don't have to worry about it passing a smog test. They also have vehicles that bid out at $1,500 - $2,000 or even $500. But you know i'm a classy kinda dame so I want something that fits that criteria. We went with about $2,300 - I know now that when we go back to get what I want I need to add on another grand minimum. So if you are in the market for a whip and you don't want a car note, credit checks and all the other hassles that go along with purchasing a whip check out this auction. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Bring at least $3,000 if you want to compete in the bidding for something sweet. Dress comfortably and bring some change so you can eat and prepare to spend at least six hours there. There's something else I want to tell you guys but right now I can't think of what it is. I remember - some of the vehicles are dealer only bids which means car dealers can only bid on those particular vehicles. The Mercedes I told you guys about was a dealer only bid. Ciao! read more

We used to go to this auction all the times,when James was the owner was the best auction around,the new owner went different direction to the worst,they have the best city and county cars on the auction day the new owner lost all the old customers and we are one of them,he lost all the old account as far as cars,for one reason he like to sell junk and small stuff only,all car dealers forget that General auction still in business I just met one of the guards who work at general auction for many years,one day he ask for day off for his son wedding,what the owner told him if you do not come back for that day you stay home,for that reason we are staying home because the new owner lost all the old customers. read more

Just a quick description before I get into the review. This is a general car auction open to the public, all and most cars are sold as is. You can find a variety of vehicles, from city service vehicles to government old vehicles to repossessed vehicles etc. You can also find a variety of equipment, electronics, furniture and all kinds of stuff. The car and equipment bids are separate. I've been to this auction a few times I've gotten two cars from here. The 1st time I went I got a 2001 Chevy blazer with 65,000 miles, i think it was an old city car, I got pretty lucky the car didn't have any serious problems, almost 3 years later the truck still runs fine! A few years later I got 2002 Jetta with 147k miles. This car runs fine, it did need some work after I bought it, but nothing major. So far so good. A few facts about this auction place they do require a $500 deposit to register, just keep in mind that if you do buy a car or equipment the $500 counts toward it. Another cool thing is that they do DMV registration on the spot, they also charge a 13% auction fee based of the auction total, so aside from your total bid be prepared to spend another couple hundred for registration and fees. Also, the $500 is refundable in case you don't buy anything. I strongly recommend coming with a mechanic or someone who's knowledgeable about cars. One thing I do like about this auction is that the cars are allowed to be turned on and checked. I strongly recommend you pop the hood make sure to check the engine, turn the car on, check the tires, check if the windows are working check everything on the car before making any kind of serious attempt to bid because they are sold as is so any issues after purchase is all on you. Overall it's an auction so it's always a 50-50 chance that you might get something really good or really bad... For the most part the cars they sell are always in running condition. A big waste of time. I went to their inspection the Friday before the auction and had nine cars I was interested in and looked them over thoroughly for a few hours. The next day suddenly every single car I had inspected the day before was now "Dealer Only" and I couldn't even bid on them. There where no signs on the vehicles or the website during the two inspection days indicating they would be dealer only. A trip to the auction and hours wasted, all for nothing. They need to have everything in order before the inspection days to make sure they don't waste other's time as well. I won't be going back until they fix this. read more

Just got home from General Auction... From what I hear there's new management but it's quite horrific. Just to get a bidder number takes forever as they now use a computer system and have a $500 deposit requirement; it used to be you walk in and you got a bidder number based on trust. Now I'm not saying the $500 deposit isn't fair, if you're buying a car I can see their point so you avoid shill bids. However, if you're like me and you just shop for misc items inside, there's a good chance I won't spend close to the deposit. I used to come with a couple hundred bucks in my pocket and buy the stuff that no one bids on. General Auction would get their $20 misc lot fee, I'd walk out with some random stuff, but now they got nothing. I stayed long enough to watch them pass on things I would have bought. Will I be back? Probably not with the new management. It took 40 minutes just to register and be told I need to visit a bank and get $500 cash. Used to take about 5 minutes to register. If for some reason I don't buy anything I'd have to wait in line and get my money back; used to be able to just go home. New management; they make this too much hassle in my opinion. Edit: Almost forgot, I should probably note that the auction terms make no mention of these new policies. read more

The way the owner does business should be a crime, they charge 20 dollars per lot per day if you fail to pick up your items. However when you as a customer pay for delievery and a hefty charge might I add of 300 dollars then you just have to hope added pray you get your items. I was told 4 different things my delievery way late and still hasn't arrived, I lost money because of poor delievery promises and horrible business judgment calls by the owner himself. Telling your paying customer, "I'll return the delievery fee and you can pick it up yourself"? , after getting the runaround for 3 days. I feel like this auction is rigged because when it's a junky car the starting bid various from 100 to 500 dollars and when it's a nice one it starts at 1000 or 2000 dollars which doesn't give the buyer no room especially since there's fees which is about .25% of your winning bid read more

I have been buying used work trucks from here periodically over the last ten years. The selection of vehicles (especially low mileage retired county/municipal/government vehicles) has been on a steady decline over the years. They introduced online bidding into the mix about 6 months ago. Overall, 1) Do your research on the pre-inspection days. 2) Set yourself a limit that you are willing to pay and don't break it 3) Bring along a trusted friend to help you stick to your budget You can get great deals if you play it smart, but you can also get caught overspending if you allow yourself to get sucked into bidding wars with others who have deeper pockets than you. read more

I was at the March auction also and got a great deal, and I dont have a dealers license. I have been at city auctions, which you basically bid on cars that you dont know what you are getting to. On these auctions you have to buy very low, because you will need extra cash for repairs or maybe not if you get very lucky. This past March it was my first time at General Auction, and the bidding here is different. You are pretty much bidding on cars that are in great conditions and smog certified prior to putting them at the auction. Just remember that you are not bidding on at city auction, these cars or at least most of them are in very good conditions. Otherwise you are told about them. The vehicles that are for dealers or dismantlers are vehicles that have been in very serious accidents or require mechanical or body repairs. You can find those type of cars at city auctions, if you want to go through the hassle of reparing. My props for their staff. I had a minor issue and gave them a call explaining them my issue. They asked me to come in to review and discuss the issue further. I came in the following day and spoke with the General manager, a great guy. He doesnt BS you, he tells you how it is and offer to help you out. They dont just take your money and look the other way, if any issues they are willing to help you resolve it. Long story short my issue was resolved. How great of a deal was the car I bought: The vehicle I bought had LOTTTTS of miles on it, and I was able to sell it within 7 days and made good profit. Everything in this car was almost new. The buyer was a mechanic and knew right away that he was getting a steal from me. I guess I got a steal from General Auction. Not entirely sure how they got it done, but it does prove their business is crooked. Been there a few times, been at many other auctions as well... Wouldn't go back to General Auction. It's basically a hassle to bid (with the $500 required deposit even if you're bidding on general items inside. You want to bid on a Bicycle? $500 deposit for that $100 bike.) and the prices aren't fabulous. You can get better deals at other auction houses. read more

I would never purchase a vehicle from here again. For one I use to always purchase cars and equipment for the last 10 years. Now they have changed staff and its time to shop somewhere else. The only good thing they changed so far was the Internet bidding. However, when you go to pay for your items, goodluck on the wait better bring a lunch. I sat over 4 hours only 3 people working the billing. About 14 people waiting all mad because it sucks you have to wait this long. Fees are too high, you can't demand title they want to Charge you extra for the fees. Title won't come in the mail until 8-12 weeks. That is a long wait for a title . Goodluck I would t buy here again. read more
