Just had a new faucet set and drains installed that were a special order for the designer fixtures the building installed, the Technician's name who Gene Johnson sent was Tsaras, he did the work to exceptional quality, I have overseen air craft maintenance workers, armament repair technicians in large depot operations and serviced bulk film and high speed photo printers for Kodak for a lot of years and know quality maintenance when I see it. CAUTION when using Gene Johnson! I want to provide a warning: get a written quote before he does any work. We were charged $2,587.00 for less than 5 hours of work (Ring Camera shows 3 hours 42 minutes in the home), and that time is inclusive of accepting/making personal phone calls outside, plus multiple trips to stores because he was not prepared. According to other plumbers, there was approximately $100 in actual wholesale parts involved for this job. He charged: $316. to install 3 screws on a $15. part, $639. to replace 3 valves (less than 1 hour), as he said "easy job" for a minor re-route of sink trap $1,103. plus tax which took less than an hour, and $415. to install a basic plug-in dishwasher. I spoke with 4 plumbers at different stores and EVERYONE said the fees he charged are outrageous! They also made additional comments which I won't mention here. Other plumber's estimates were $1200. to $1400. for the exact work inclusive of parts and labor. When my wife questioned Gene about the charges initially, he raised his voice to her (which he denies now). After several requests, calling the office, they did not and will not provide an hourly rate or parts costs, which is typical in the plumbing trade. So, if you are trusting like us, you may have a nasty surprise at the end. He asks you to sign a blank I-Pad after work is completed, saying "Sign here that you accept my job and allow me to charge your card." This is before you have any idea what the total amount is since the screen has nothing on it! Later he says "You accepted the job." Several days later we received a receipt via email later. Most disturbing are many blatant lies including: "I told you the water sensor would be $275." He never said that, and his invoice, if you subtract the dishwasher install, is $286. plus tax. I saw the water sensor at a box store a week before he came to our home for $15.. Why would I agree to pay $316. to install 3 screws? He said in an email that he discussed approximate pricing. That is absolutely not true! In addition, Gene started backpedaling and became defensive mentioning 4 other un-truths in his emails. To make matters worse, immediately after Gene left, the pipes under the sink are loudly knocking even with no water on. So now we have to call another plumber to troubleshoot and fix whatever Gene did. Life is short, plus we believe in karma, so we want to help others to avoid being ripped off. As seniors, he took advantage of us. Please be careful if you decide to use Gene Johnson! read more

Gene Johnson wanted $125 guaranteed fee for the plumber to show up to diagnose; thank goodness I got a competing offer to waive that fee so they waived it. This place is a rip-off. We had a horrible experience! We were charged almost 1,000$ for them to stick around for 45 minutes. The man who came out was already angry for whatever reason and didnt seem like he even wanted to be doing his job he was getting paid a lot of money for. Then he decided it wasnt worth his time and left and still charged us 1,000$ after saying it would be 1,500$ like he was doing us a favor. I was merging into the toll lanes, where they MUST let people in from the left, and he refused to let me in, then flipped me off, drove less than a foot behind my car in heavy traffic with rain, then tried to pass me while screaming profanities out his window. Not the type of business I want to support at ALL. This isn't the first time this has happened with YOUR work trucks either. Despicable. Disgusting. He popped off the septic riser lids and discovered the issue was with the tank not inside plumbing. He explained what course of action we should take all in all about an hour. Avoid Gene Johnson Services - Misleading Quotes and Disorganized Scheduling We moved into our new home about 5 weeks ago and were told the water pressure was 60 psi. Wanting to be thorough, we signed up for a membership with Gene Johnson Services and scheduled an appointment to recheck everything. The appointment was confirmed for 7/7. On the day of the appointment, they told us last minute that no one could come - a frustrating disruption to our schedule. Then, oddly enough, a plumber did show up that same day, without notifying us. This was our first red flag -- total disorganization. When the plumber inspected the house, he claimed the water pressure was 100 psi (which two of us heard clearly). Based on that, he recommended replacing the pressure-reducing valve and the emergency main shutoff -- for a quoted price of $2,000. He also added, "It will be more expensive next year." That comment felt like a pressure tactic, but we went ahead and paid a $500 deposit to secure the work. Later, something didn't sit right. I started researching and quickly realized their quote was excessively overpriced compared to other local companies. We decided to cancel the service and asked for clarification. When we spoke with a manager and retested the water pressure ourselves, it read only 70 psi. We were shocked. The manager then contradicted the original plumber, saying their reading was 80 psi -- completely inconsistent with what we were originally told. This experience felt misleading at best -- and like a scam at worst. We were nearly convinced to pay thousands for work we likely didn't need. Be cautious: they gave us false information, used high-pressure sales tactics, and were disorganized from the start. He added a booster to my tank and also a alarm which would detect a leak including a drain that goes out of my house. Should there ever be a problem again? It won't be all over the floor of my garage. I had a little issue with the booster and he came out on his day off to fix the situation. I cannot believe the lack of integrity or accountability at this company. After causing a traffic accident they just ignore the situation? My car was totalled and my insurance carrier has tried for months just to talk and sort it out with them and they are ignored. Every letter, every call....stonewalled. I guess it will need to get escalated to the legal system because I won't just eat this loss nor will my insurance carrier. $20K of damage that they caused and they won't even respond! The driver took full responsibility at the scene. But since then my insurance carrier and I have been stonewalled. It's been three months and Gene Johnson's insurance carrier will not communicate with my carrier or with me directly at all. Not even to dispute what happened. Literally no response since July 3rd. My car was declared a total loss. Because the car was new I ended up having to pay the bank ~$2000 to settle the loan plus my $1000 deductable and rental expenses. Plus, my rates will inevitably go up because the claim had to be filed against my policy because no one will respond. The accident was not my fault - it was the fault of a Gene Johnson employee. This is not the way honest companies who care about this community operate. Gene Johnson Plumbing trucks are on our highways and city streets every day. If one of their trucks causes an accident they need to take responsibility like any good citizen would. Instead, Gene Johnson plumbing has shirked their responsibility and refused to deal with my claim and the negative financial consequences this has had by them ignoring numerous emails, calls and letters. I continue to pursue collection of my losses through subrogation and, if necessary, the legal system. ***The most dishonest and unethical plumbers I've ever dealt with. *** Last week, our hot water heater wasn't working properly so we called Gene Johnson and had them come out and address the situation. According to the first technician, with only a five year old hot water heater we were supposed to be flushing it every year and that's why it ended up not working. We paid for the total flushing and replacement of an element which ran $1300. We promptly paid. Later that evening, we were once again without any hot water. The following day another technician came out (a different one) and he said that not only had the previous technician not provided any notes, they also caused a leak in the hot water heater (it was leaking all over our garage floor) but also did something to the valves that would require us to purchase an entire new one. After I essentially told him that was not going to happen, he went out to his truck and was on the phone with the "home office" for an hour. He then began working on the hot water heater for another two hours and claimed it was all fixed. Two days letter, once again, we had no hot water. We had guests coming in that weekend and had to push back the cleaners twice, which we had to pay (the full service despite they couldn't clean due to lack of hot water) for on top of paying Gene Johnson to come out twice. I called the manager at Gene Johnson 5 times since attempting to have them cover a portion of the cleaners which we had to pay for twice due to their ineptitude, and he never bothered to call me back. Completely disrespectful and dishonest. Additionally, we had no hot water in the house over Easter, which forced us to cancel our family plans. They are now coming out a third time, expecting us to pay them once again. I have retained an attorney to deal with this, but didn't want anyone else to have to experience this type of service (or lack thereof). They are completely dishonest and in all my years of working with various plumbing services in the area, Gene Johnson is the absolute worst. If I could give them negative stars, I would. The company it's self wouldn't call me, our permits failed not because of Diego, but because dispatch didn't follow through. I have had to manage this company, not the other way around. It should have been seamless. They have purchase Bel-red, and the same thing happened, great technicians, but our permit there isn't finished. He was careful draining the tank, he used limited pipe dope as I suggested to not contaminate my water, he had me turn on the hot water tap upstairs to let out all the AIR in the tank on the refill, refilled tank and tested, etc. etc., and the price was billed for ONE HOUR LABOR ONLY (no parts) since the TITANIUM ELEMENTS were bought by me at Home Depot. A more polite, more knowledgeable plumber than the others I have used; a friendly plumber that you can talk with about all aspects of the job and analyze with, and no BS with him. I have used Gene Johnson Plumbing and Heating on two previous occasions. Both services at that time received a 5-star review. I called GJ for annual maintenance services. I inquired about the prices for my hot water heater, and other maintenance. To my surprise, I was told they could not disclose the prices, not even ball-park cost. This sounded a bit strange...? Going on the two past times I made the appt. Before Tyler arrived, we moved the dryer to allow ample space for the service. I wiped down the dust and cleaned the area. Tyler arrived and started to work. I asked if there was anything he needed from me before he started. He replied "No". Several minutes later, I checked on him again, and he pointed out to the release valve and said "the valve is leaking". Imagine my surprise, since there was no sign of a leak when I wiped the dusty water heater, and my cleaning towel was NOT wet! I mentioned this to him, no sign of water leaking, no puddle, and he said "well I see it". Erring on the side of caution, I okayed a replacement...Tyler also did other work-- a Moen faucet replacement, was charged as a Kohler. Although both jobs were acceptable, I couldn't help but questioin the "dripping" water heater valve. I would have noticed. I questioned my husband when he got home from work, as he helped with clearing the work area. He agreed that it was not leaking whe he wiped down the top of the water heater. I made everal calls were made to Tyler, for over a week to get a response. I spoke to several employees at Gene Johnson to make sure he got my message to call. Time was scheduled for the call. He claimed he called but the phone never rang. When he kept ignorning my efforts to communicate and get an explanation for the inconsistencies. I could not help but be suspicious of his work ethic. No one at Gene Johnson could speak to his actions or charges, or his error on the invoices. After speaking to some neighbors about this incident, I got a "not surprised" response from one person. Just not a quality experience. Tech came twice and unable to fix a simple weak flow faucet. First told me it was cartridge (in a brand new faucet). Ran around town over two days to buy it for $55 and install myself. Lo and behold no impact on problem. Came back a second time and could not diagnose issue. Tyler a technician from Gene Johnson plumbing, heating and electrical, came out to repair a leaking sewer line and do a rough in for a kitchen remodel that I have started. The job turned out to be quite alot more difficult than anticipated, taking two days, instead of one day. The reason it took longer, is, our house is 114 years old and Tyler needed to bring water lines from the basement into a difficult to access crawl space. Inspite of taking much longer than Tyler thought to finish the job, Tyler remained focused on doing quality work. I am very pleased with how it turned out. This is hands down the worst company I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The communication was horrible and their prices exorbitant (found out too late). A simple install of a new AC, which I was told would be a basic one day job, has turned into a 2 month affair. The office never seemed to connect with the service workers and no one ever told me what was happening from day to day appointments. People would show up and then find out other technicians hadn't been scheduled for pre-work. Incorrect items were ordered due to improper assessments at start. The office sent people out without telling me who they were or what they were doing. Several weeks after, I found I was supposed to have to separate inspections. That was never communicated to me once. Upon both of those inspections it was discovered that the company installed them incorrectly. It has at this point required 3 separate fixes and, therefore, 4 inspections. Everyone's answer was always to blame it on someone else for not communicating properly. I attempted to address this with upper management, who has refused to return my calls. Avoid this company like the plague. You will regret it 100%. read more
