[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is so cool like being in the 1980's super retro great drinks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Its alike being in a museum too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The old games are fun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Havent tried the food yet but will soon

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Fun place to visit, especially if you remember large televisions, VHS tapes, Pac-Man, and pinball machines.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Drinks and food are excellent. Staff was very friendly and attentive. We were there on a DJ night and made the mistake of sitting g near the DJ but there are other sections that are less loud.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]What a unique place!! All the decor was totally fitting![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I loved Al the unique sitting areas as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The DJ that came on at 8pm was also fabulous, he placed a great mix of 80s.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was a little slow at first. We did it sit at tables but we were told we'd be waited on. We had to ask a couple of times to get service, but once we did our waitress was so helpful and very nice. I ordered the Medi Bowl, my husband got the burger and our friends got a pizza. Everything was delicious!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Thought this place was pretty cool. Cool 80s Gen X sports bar vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was great, of course I like to hit these new spots early so they aren't swapped so I can see what they can do when they aren't swamped. Drinks were great, prices weren't that bad considering it was down town. Didn't order any food cause we ate already, but it looked great for the people to either side. My only tick was its down town, parking sucks, (not their fault) but if you're down there certainly worth checking it out.

Uhh well that was an experience. Me and my group got here at 8pm. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I guess I didn't read the memo that children were allowed here until 9pm. It kinda threw me off.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The stage was pretty simple. Monitor and everyone around cheering them on. It's tucked into a corner so not really viewable unless you move to sit by the bar or are in the area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plenty of seating available from high tops to booths and regular tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Bar is right in the middle and it's a full bar. Wine liquor and beer are served. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bar is a bit retro themed. There are a bunch of 90s call backs and retro themed games available to play for a fee. Aka basketball, ski ball, darts etc.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is okay. Mostly saw the servers run drinks to people and the occasional food from the kitchen. I went up to the bar to order. Got a beer and a vodka pineapple. It's in a small glass so expect to be back quite a bit if you're a fast drinker.

Really fun! We went for lunch with friends so we could really taken in all the sights. We walked around because there is a lot of fun stuff to see. Great, creative menu and the food was really good. It's not just bar food either- it's good stuff! Our waitress was so patient and helpful. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We really liked the place[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Was there for a conference and swung by one night. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They had a DJ playing all 80's and 90's jams![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great bar, great atmosphere and great memorabilia throughout the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I always heard of this place but I'd never been! I spent the day downtown recently and decided to stop by. A group of 4 moms who had a free afternoon we had the best time ever! We played games, vibed out to the fun play list, ordered drinks and food! The wings were not my fave but the drinks & vibes are enough for repeat visits over and over! We had a memorable afternoon thank you Gen X for the best time!

I went with my husband and in-laws to Gen X Tavern in downtown Tampa. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I liked that their bar was lit up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also really liked their fun atmosphere inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bartender was outgoing and fun to talk to. We ordered and shared their "Call Me" Cauliflower with hot sauce which was tasty. We also got their Slider Trio to share, which were also tasty. Overall, pretty good experience! Cool bar in downtown Tampa!

Honestly, was really excited to try this place out as it appealed to me for being Gen X themed and just looked like a cool bar to check out. I was quite disappointed to walk in and see kids running around a place I thought was a bar lol! Nothing wrong with that, just not the vibe I was expecting on a Saturday night. I enjoyed the drink I had which tasted like a spike Starbucks pink drink! I loved the decor and even noticed a DJ setting up for the night as I was heading out. Bartenders were really nice and attentive!

This bar was located walking distance from my hotel. I went in on Monday because I found out they host trivia and it led to a great spot. The name of the bar is adequate as the bar has all the staples of things kids loved from the 90's to 00's. My favorite is the huge post of the T-Rex from Jurassic Park. They also host karaoke on Wednesdays. I didn't eat that night but went back the next day during the evening for their burger specials. Jamie, the bartender, told me upfront it did not come with a side which was helpful to know. I ordered a side of tots to go with it. The food came out super quickly. I also noticed this on every around me. Their kitchen is extremely efficient. My burger was massive but delicious and filling. I barely got most of my tots down. Highly suggest visiting this bar if you're nearby.

    Chris K.

As for the hype, thought the bar was a decent spot and they had great choices and unique names for it , but not entirely what I thought it would be. Could've just been one of those days where it's just rainy, cold, and affects the mood? But still feel that I would like to come visit with a couple buddies to have some more of their drinks, I enjoyed it and felt it was a good touch to the visit. Parking is all around the city side or in the parking garage next door. Plenty of spaces to choose from , but of course you need to pay. Was about $10 and I was only there for about 45 mins.

Update: 3/2. I went back to Genx as it's around the corner from another spot where I was earlier and [[HIGHLIGHT]]I definitely had to update based on the much improved experience I had and the positive vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a Saturday evening and the crowd was very different from my first experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] there were a combination of tourists (near hotels), locals stopping in for drinks before dinner or a show (they are not far from Straz) or just folks like me who wanted a snack and to chill. We were on our way to dinner but wanted a snack and ordered wings and fries along with a couple drinks. As before, both were good. The wings were juicy and crisp. The table nearby had pizza and I overheard them saying it was good. I'll definitely stop in again.

Ask the Community - Gen X Tavern

Is this the place on the news that has the cool games you can play and video games etc?

    Yep!

Is this an all ages restaurant or just a bar?

Depends on the time you go. You could certainly bring your family there, they have a full menu and games. Kids won't appreciate the cultural references though.

Do they have parking? Lot or Street? Thanks!!

There is street parking and garage parking around, but none of it is free!

There are a few parking garages, but even those are a pain because people park like idiots. The parking situation isn't On Swann's fault, but it's an annoying factor. We had reservations well in advance, so we didn't have to worry about a wait. It was reasonably busy for a Saturday at brunch time. The decor and overall ambiance was classy but comfortable, which is great imo. Our server was nice and checked on us a good amount of times. The wait time between ordering our food and it coming to the table felt a bit lengthier than I would typically expect, but the food was delicious so it's hard to even complain about that. I got the short rib hash and a croissant and both items were wonderful. The croissant was flaky and buttery, it comes with a honey dip and butter on the side, would def get again. The short rib hash was also a menu item I would order again - the eggs were cooked perfectly, and I'd say I'm a little picky with how runny my eggs are. These were runny, but not TOO runny. The potatoes had a nice crisp to the outside but nice and soft on the inside, the short rib was so tender, so juicy, it was just a very well rounded, great tasting hash. This was my first time visiting On Swann for brunch, I'll be back for sure, but maybe on a weekday instead of the weekend since it seems to get pretty crowded in the Hyde Park Village area!

We were seated at a super small table so it made for an uncomfortable situation with so little real estate available. Also the place looks like it's converted from a garage or something with metal walls and roll up doors that made the sound bounce around. The service was nice. We were well taken care of but they seemed to be spread thin because getting refills and getting our check took a bit longer than expected. One ssue was that the menu was very different from what was online via Google. I should have gone to their website I guess, but several items were not available and the filet I was so excited for had a very different set of items. No Brie au gratin potatoes or braised rainbow chard, citrus gremolata and a fig chutney. Now, let me say that my filet was delicious. I loved the sauce and the asparagus was good but for me, the potatoes were super underwhelming. A nice sauce or something would have made them better. They just tasted bland, were really dry and lacked any flavor. My wife expected the lamb or pork chops, they were both not on the menu. She got fish and chips which she really enjoyed, so it was a win. The Asian wings were our appetizer and were delightful too. Now the only real negative for us was the noise. We got there at 5:30 and it was fine. But as more people came in, the sound bounced around so bad that it became almost unbearable for me. I wanted to go so bad because people laughing and talking made my head hurt. Would I go back? Probably not. I didn't enjoy how loud it was. The food was very good though, so perhaps takeout would be more my speed. We had a nice meal and my leftovers were delicious later that evening.

Food: I'd say overall their food is good, it's not the best I've had in Tampa. If you want to come for a decent brunch and drinks this is a good spot. We tried the 'potato latkes' as an appetizer which was really good. I had their 'Smashburger' for my entree which was good, but I've had better. I did like their fries. The drinks were the best part! I had their 'Pink Hugo' which was really good and my friend had their 'Green Machine' which was delicious. Overall the food was good, but nothing amazing to me. Maybe I didn't order the right thing. I'd be willing to come back and try their brunch options as that seems to be what people like the most. Overall, it's a good place to come for lunch with a friend. It wasn't super busy on a weekday, so you don't need a reservation. The prices are decent, but everything in Tampa is more pricey now. **Parking Tip: they have a VERY small parking lot for customers behind the building. There is a larger gravel parking lot behind the building where you have to PAY to park. It was around $6/2 hours, I'm not sure if it's more expensive at different times. Try to look for free street parking in the area if their free lot is full before going to the paid lot! Or if you can car pool with friends do that!
