Visited from out of town. It must be the trendy brunch spit for a Saturday as there was a line, yes even with reservations. Sat outside to not prolong the wait but glad as the inside is cozy but would have felt cramped and the music was too loud for the size establishment. Our server was awesome. Let me get the good part out of the way first. The food was outstanding. I had the Peach Cobbler French Toast with Chicken. I could eat that everyday and be a happy cow. My companions had the chicken and waffles and fish and grits. Both tasted amazing. Second, the service was out of this world. Princess was attentive and took excellent care of us. She never missed a beat and anticipated all our needs. Now let me tell you why I'm never going back. It started with $16.50 mandatory valet, a purse check and pat down security check OUTSIDE, a mandatory 20% gratuity, and no tap water only bottled. We spent $150 for just 3 people with no cocktails. Their famous mimosa tower or drink flights weren't on the new drink menu. It's such a shame because the place is very cozy and intimate. It's beautifully decorated from the last time I dined there. The vibes were wayyyy off for an 11:45a.m. reservation. All these changes have taken this place from a Tampa must-go, staple to just another restaurant with great food. Service 2/10 Service was slow, unprofessional, and showed no urgency, even with the place essentially empty. I was told a reservation was required to sit at the bar, despite the bar being completely empty (and not actually taking reservations for bar seating.) The ambience was chaotic and poorly managed. If you're looking for a space that reflects Black culture with intention or pride, this is not it. This was a huge let down I would not choose this place for lunch, dinner, or brunch. The entire staff FOH and BOH need training and just an even a brief introduction to be a professional. Biscuits 9.5/10 though! Lastly, hiring effective security was a smart move however hire individuals with more tact. M friend and I went to Coasis for brunch and it was very busy! We had reservations so thankfully we didn't have to wait. We sat inside which was pretty tight seating so if you want a lot of personal space, this isn't the place for you. The music was also blasting. I liked the music selection but my friend and I were literally yelling in order to hear each other so that wasn't ideal. The service was decent but the waitress forgot both of our sides until we reminded her. Also, there's an automatic service charge. Now, the food was very good! It was way overpriced but cooked and seasoned well. Parking is also non-existent and its valet only. I want to say I paid $15 or $20 which is ridiculous but I was running late and didn't have time to search for street parking. I went to Coasis on Saturday to celebrate my friend's birthday, and overall, we had a great time! We had a 1:30 PM reservation and were seated right away as soon as we walked in. There was security at the door who wanded us down and checked our purses, which made me feel like the area might not be the safest, but once we got inside, the vibes were definitely flowing. We were greeted by the DJ as we entered, and the energy was great from the start. Our waitress (I wish I remembered her name because she was so sweet!) greeted us quickly and brought paid bottled water to the table. There is no tap water here. For appetizers, we ordered the Cajun wings and seafood dip. The food took a little while to come out, but when it did, everything was hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The wings were crispy and seasoned perfectly, definitely one of the highlights. The seafood dip was also really good, and when we asked for more chips, our waitress happily brought some out. We ordered lemon drop towers in different flavors. Pineapple, peach, blueberry, and strawberry. They were yummy, and the bartender definitely wasn't stingy with the liquor! For my meal, I ordered the churro waffles and wings (yes, the same wings from the appetizer. I didn't mind one bit! LOL!). The waffle was just right. Crispy on the edges, soft in the middle, and not overly sweet. I also tried the biscuit with honey butter, which was good. My friend had the Bananas Foster French toast, and she loved it, although her eggs came out a little late. Another friend had the shrimp and grits and said the shrimp were on the salty side, and someone else mentioned the same about the salmon croquettes. Our waitress apologized for those hiccups and offered to make it right, which I really appreciated. The music was great. Shout out to DJ Marly Mar! Very lively and fun, though a bit explicit at times (the DJ said it depends on the crowd). Coasis was my go to restaurant for amazing soul food in Tampa. The remodeling of the restaurant is a vibe. This visit was unfortunately not similar to my past experiences. They now do valet only parking for their lots. It cost $16.50 with tax. I can see their main lot but why the parking across the street. The reservation check in process included a security checkpoint including checking my purse and a full body pat down of my husband. Did I mention we went for BRUNCH. The music is always too loud but was better today. The food as always was really good. We had fish and grits, chicken and waffles, honey butter biscuits, and peach french toast and chicken. Delicious! No complaints. Service by Princess was excellent and the saving grace to push my experience from a 2 to a 3 stars. I'm not sure if something happened there but that's not the experience I prefer and enjoy for an expensive brunch. Pretty decent experience here. Went here on a double date and specifically wanted to come to their R&B night. The venue is a bit small on the inside, but it didn't feel overcrowded. Although it was a night designated for playing music, it was entirely TOO loud. Our group was barely able to hold a conversation throughout the night, and when we did speak we had to yell and repeat ourselves. The service was okay. Our waitress was fine but extremely slow. The saving grace was the food. My partner and I ordered the lamb chops with mashed potatoes and truffle fries. The lamb chops were so juicy and tender. Everything was delicious. WATER is not free and you can't get a cup of water from the bar so that was a disappointment. The location of the restaurant is the worst and you have to park on the street unless you do valet and the parking lot they use looks super tight so if you're particular about your car I'd pass on this place completely. Nice place, definitely loved what they did to a regular home and how they gutted it into a restaurant. What could have definitely gone better is the level of the music. I couldn't even be in proximity. I really hear my friends talk unless I got close and raised my voice. Also, the waitress was quite busy. She only checked on us but so many times and seemingly we had to go find her for items that we needed. She's was very nice however. however, the food was quite delicious, no one complained about the quality of the meals so that was a win. The RSVP portion though was a bit different. They needed you to put a car down, and if you needed to make any alterations to your reservations , then you had to text the number and then they made the changes manually. They didn't even respond to let me know this until I checked in the app myself. The communication was unnecessarily the greatest. The final part that was a bit annoying, annoying while sitting outside and having to deal with a bunch of flies that come around because of all the sugary items on the table. Very frustrating. Those CATFISH NUGGETS need to be what they advertise more because they were SO good! Cooked to perfection, served with some kind of sauce and I got a side of hot sauce and BABY these are it! We ordered (2) orders and an order to go! The Oysters as well made me happy! I'm only a part-time oyster-eater. I don't like them when they're big and in season. So these were perfect and seasoned very well. My friend said they were a little salty to her, but they were great to me! The Asian shrimp weren't my favorite, but I'm also not a big shrimp eater. They were good though. Not to mention the service was fast, but again, we were the only people there for a while. The DRINKS! Yes! The lemon drop was perfect and typically my go-to drink, but I would actually recommend those Margaritas! They were nice and strong. One or two and it's a good time! This was a "Foodie" trip to sample a few things for my book I am writing on food and service . Parking can be an issue and they have a valet parking situation. You can choose indoor or outdoor seating. I originally chose indoor but started feeling a bit claustrophobic and moved outside. I ordered the Chicken & Peach Cobbler Waffle, Catfish, Bacon, Honey-Butter Biscuit, and lemonade. I was told the wings were whole wings and boy was I excited; but upon delivery I was informed they are actually wing sections. The flavor of the fried chicken wings was not anything to rave about just as the Fried Catfish was not memorable either. The "homemade lemonade " needs some fresh squeezed lemon juice . The Waffle texture was good but the peach cobbler topping was void of peach flavor that could have been reduced by the cinnamon dusting on the waffle. The highly rated honey butter biscuit, left much to be desired. The biscuit seemed doughy and heavy. I wish I could have sampled just one thing that I could say was absolutely delicious; but I couldn't. I gave the restaurant a 3 star because I know the effort put in to presentation may have left recipe confusion/ quality lacking. read more

The positive is that overall the food was decently good. The collard greens were good but they do have a mix to them so if you don't like spicy you might want to reconsider. I was disappointed in the biscuit that people hyped up. The music was really loud so it was hard to maintain a conversation with friends directly across from me(or maybe I'm just old and my ears don't like loud noises ‍‍). But the most disappointing part of this was the experience with the cutlery items. I ordered lamb and was not expecting to be given pre plastic utensils with a napkin in it. For the price point to be what it is, I think it's unacceptable to be served with plastic. The price point doesn't match that. I've been hearing great things about Coasis, and once one of my favorite food critics said it was nice I had to visit. I made a reservation on open table at 11a for brunch. Arrived about 10 minutes prior and I ended to waiting about 15 minutes after my reservation time to be seated because they were just opening the restaurant and the hostess wasn't there yet. Once we were seated, our waitress Princess came over about 10 mins later and took our drink and food orders. It took about 30 minutes for the food to arrive; even with us being the first table to be seated and the second table to order. I had the honey biscuits for an appetizer and the catfish and grits for my entree. My friend had the red velvet waffle with chicken. My entire meal was amazing, seasoned just right, and my catfish wasn't overcooked. The gouda grits were savory. The chicken and waffles were good also! Food prices were reasonable and they do include 18% gratuity. The ambiance inside and outside was so cute, definitely content and picture worthy. The parking isn't the best. There are about 5-10 parking spaces behind the restaurant and street parking. I would say park in the lot across the street but it was very sketchy. Overall, I would definitely visit again. Making my way around Tampa as a new resident and we are trying places all over the city. Saw this place on a list and then of course it took off on social media recently. We will go through the entire visit with valuable information as you make a decision. The parking is less than desirable. Such a small parking lot and neighborhood parking with what looked to be a lot across the street. It does not leave you with a great feeling on where you are leaving your vehicle. The hostess are professional, but not polite. We have all seen this and it's nothing wrong, they just don't have great energy. Now our waitress, Vanessa was amazing. Super attentive with recommendations based on what you indicate you are looking for. I ordered the seafood platter and he ordered just wings. We were both pleased with our selection and everything came out to order and hot. I wish I had tried a few other items off the menu to really see the chef's skills, but one can only eat so much. The winner of the day, a biscuit. We saw them pass our table and our waitress was like you sure you don't want one. Neither of us are bread eaters, but if you tell me you are known for it, let me check it out. A friend of mine decided to go hear one of our favorite DJs for R&B night (Donnie Luv) and let me just say, we're already planning our next Thursday night out. DJ Donnie Luv had a great set let per usual and even threw in some rap tunes to help build the energy in the room. We went relatively early but it worked out because the restaurant got very packed very quickly. Also, KAYLA is the most lit and outgoing server I've ever had. Her energy was unmatched! She checked on us throughout the night and always had a smile on her face. I'm asking for her every single time.We tried a little bit of everything and I'm so happy we did! None of the food disappointed us and everything was seasoned and cooked fresh. We ordered the catfish nuggets,oysters, lamb chops, macaroni and cheese, steak egg rolls and of course cocktails to sip. I came at the request of a fellow yelper because Wednesday is $2 oysters day and I'm all about the oysters! This place is located in an area of the city you'd never expect a restaurant to be. The restaurant appears to be a house converted to a restaurant. The parking situation in horrible. The lot can accommodate maybe 15 vehicles and your best bet is to try and back in to the spaces. The outside of the restaurant is very cute... but you know what they say about places with grass walls.. let's keep an open mind though! I was immediately greeted when I walked in by the host. Very friendly. She seated me without reservation and asked my preference for plastic or silverware, then guided me to my table. I arrived at 5:49pm on a Wednesday. She promptly let me know the restaurant has booked a private event for the night and all guests will have to leave at 7. Google says they close at 10 though. The rest of my party is late so I decide to order without them. The happy hour menu has $2 oysters that require a minimum order of 6 and come in 3 flavors. Unfortunately, you can only pick one flavor even though I wanted 12. The waitress decided to make an exception for me. My oysters were a little on the small side. I got the jerk and garlic parm. They were good, though the jerk tasted nothing like anything close to jerk. I also ordered marsala glazed mushrooms and they didn't have this so I opted for garlic parm truffle fries. A post on FB lured me to this place. I had my sights set on lamb chops or lobster. Upon my arrival I reconsidered due to pricing. It also did not help that the lobster came with grits. I asked if I could get it with something other than grits and the answer was no. I had just had delicious lobster nearby a couple days before for a much more reasonable price. I opted for Cajun Wings which were good but more expensive than what they were worth. The day before I had wings from a corner market that were as good for half the price. There is also some disconnect between the server and the kitchen. There is indoor and outdoor dining, a bar, take-out and dining at the bar. The decor was colorful and bright in an otherwise dimly lit area. Parking is on the side or in the back, which is rather filthy and unkept. A ramp leads to a trash laden dead end and is obviously not meant for patrons or the handicapped. A fact you do not know until you already walk up it and find your way is blocked with discarded waste. There is no handicap access. It is difficult and unfair to rate food when you opt not to eat anything except the wings. I will give a generous 4 stars based on my experience and leave the tasting to someone else. read more

After seeing this spot come up on social media I said, why not... My friends made the reservation for 6:15 and when you first arrive, it's not your typical restaurant. It's a house that was renovated into a small restaurant. It's kinda cute but very small. The menu isn't extensive nor do any of the entrees come with sides. For the price and portion size, they should. The drinks are also pricey for what they are. Small Glass and not that strong, in my opinion. The food was just ok... Took away stars for a few reasons. 1, being there were annoying flies and we had to constantly fan them away. 2, my side came out cold... Sent it back. Our table didn't get our food at the same time so we waited and waited. And 3rdly... The check out process was awful. They used this credit card reader that displayed everyone's items but when you pay it doesn't print or email you your receipt. I personally like to see what I'm being charged for. I decided to check out this spot with a friend for brunch on Saturday. Once I arrived, it took me awhile to find parking due to the location being in a neighborhood and very little parking. The restaurant has an outdoor patio area which is a more quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Inside there was a DJ and people dancing so more of a party atmosphere. The menu had a lot of great options especially if you like seafood. I was excited to try the oysters that I saw on Instagram. The flavor of the oysters was so good. I want to go back to try the Parmesan butter ones. The catfish and grits also had a nice taste but I was still a little hungry and could of used one more piece of fish. The service was good. I was seated immediately then my waitress came over shortly after. They have a lot of drink options. I had a pineapple mimosa but want to try the lemon drop flight next time. Sugar Honey Ice Tea!! ( if you know you know) Slam ya mama goodness! Walking in leading to the door so beautiful the patio is very nicely done! Honey, I live for the ambience!! Yess yessss I made reservations for 2 as I wasn't sure about how busy they would be. But so glad I did as it quickly got that way. Our server was Melissa not Mel as they would say it lol ( if you know you know) all good stuff anyway Melissa was outstanding and very patience with us as it was so many good choices omgggg so you know I will have to have a do over We had the catfish and grits and the steak and eggs plus those honey biscuits lord have mercy on my soul cause those dang biscuits are the truth ... honey they may just save yo life hahaha But seriously the fish was cooked perfectly just enough crisp to lay over that bed of cheesy grits that were definitely cooked right!! Cause we know when grits are not cooked correctly IJS The steak another great choice cooked just like I wanted medium well side of potatoes and scrambled eggs really good. One thing is for sure you know when you run across a great restaurant when your food is excellent and cooked with love and the drinks are so good you try not to drink it fast but also so good that it's taste like nothing is in it but later you feel like you high on life and everything feels good ya know that's the perfect cocktail. First, let's start with the parking... Literally no where to park, and must pay $15 for valet. The venue is very small, and the food is over priced. Water isn't even free... It's $4.00. Lastly, but most importantly, I was charged twice, and $5.00 extra than what my bill was. I can't reach anyone by phone except text but they just stopped answering my texts. Never will I go there again! And will not stop doing what I need to do to get my money back. read more

The ambiance was ok. The music was loud so if you are trying to catch up with old friends this may not be the place for you. The food looked amazing. Lots of options but were a little more expensive than expected. But good otherwise. The downside the parking was horrible having to get patted down by security was a little awkward for a brunch restaurant. Shocked. I was disappointed in the honey butter biscuit because it was too burnt at the bottom. The waitress Addie was so nice a funny she was a vibe we sat outside because it wasn't too hot and the music was still loud.
