It's a small gift shop full of Quartzsite souvenirs and it's also a very nice game shop for all those snowbirds from Canada. Probably the best part about visiting this shop were the friendly and courteous owners. - They also have a nice selection of gourmet and hard to find bottled sodas.

Tyson Wells can be best described as a swap meet focused on rocks and minerals. But unlike the Desert Gardens show ( down the road), which is focused only on rocks and minerals, the Tyson Wells show has many more vendors selling junk items made in China. That's probably the biggest negative about this show. You'll find everything here from animal skulls, to glass pipes ( like the ones you see on Live PD), and they even have a grocery store that sells mostly expired food items that were discarded from grocery stores. Perhaps one of the saddest things I saw was that one vendor was selling stalagmites and stalactites in one of the dark alleys. It's illegal to collect, buy, and sell stalagmites in several states. So should you still go here? If you're driving the 10 in January, definitely! It's free to park and visit and they have so many interesting things for sale here. You'll probably spend more than hour here, but it's worth it. Note - Earlier in the week we visited the Desert Gardens down the road and if you're looking for strictly rocks, minerals and fossils to add to your collection that's a better choice. The Desert Gardens show was family-friendly, Tyson Wells is like a true swap meet so you should treat it as such with your kids. Tip - You MUST visit the actual Tyson Wells Storefront. Dale's rock, gem, and fossil shop has been a hidden teasure to me for the last 10 years that I have…read morebeen going to the Imperial Valley basin. But not any more. If you are ever in the area do yourself a favor and stop by Dale's shop. What makes Dale's shop cool besides Dale being a nice person is that it is on the road to the Imperial Valley sand dunes (Glamis) if you are coming in from highway 10. This same road is also the way you could be driving to Quartzite from San Diego. Also this shop is near the Opal Hill fire agate mine and Hauser Geoge beds. My wife and I were celebrating our 12 wedding anniversary in true "rock hound" style and happened upon Dale's shop on a Sunday. There was an open sign facing the main street and on open gate. Dale gave us a nice welcome and is very informative about local rock, gems, and fossils and also local area's for collecting. The prices are very fair there. When we were leaving Dale pointed out his cactus garden that was in bloom which was nice.

Be careful picking up anything because some of their items can burn you. I'm not too sure what the market for some of these rocks are, I'm assuming garden and ornamental uses. In any case, it's a fun place to check out and stretch your legs. Tip - For smaller mineral items and fossils the prices were better down the street at Gem World.
