However, I learned through that phone call that they did not have my tires in stock but they had a different brand that they could install that day. Yes, 5 minutes before my appointment I was informed they did not have the tires I reserved. Upon arriving at the store, they clarified that the Continental VikingContact 8's I wanted had a $180 freight charge that I would have to pay if I still wanted them, and that they'd have to install it another day. They then suggested their other snow tires, the Blackhawk Ice Prey's, to put on my car that day. During my search for tires in previous weeks, I did not once come across the brand Blackhawk at my local tire stores. Even Mavis's own website does not have these tires. Upon doing some quick research in their store, reviews noted the tires were a budget tire and performed as such. The price at Mavis would've been barely cheaper than the more premium ones I had reserved without the freight charge. Other websites had the Ice Prey's cheaper than Mavis by over $70/tire. Overall disappointed at the lack of communication and the up charged pricing on the budget tires they were trying to sell me. At least their staff were kind and explained the situation to me when I got in the store. They also were understanding that I did not want to pay the price of premium tires for budget tires. These very tales may have originated right at Nielson Nissan in Stanhope, NJ! Let's see. Brought the vehicle in for 3 codes: 2 emissions (P0456, P059E) and 1 transmission (P17F1). Nissan charged $219 x 2 for the diagnosis alone (saying that these fees would be reduced from the final charge if we did the work with them). The trans recommendation was a new valve body (2k quoted). The emissions codes were $1600 quoted. When we told them yes, do the transmission but not the emissions codes, as we can get those done for $1,000 cheaper at our local mechanic, Nissan started moving the goal posts. First, they increased the price of the transmission work by $200. Next, they called back saying that we might as well do the 1 emission code with them at least so that the original $219 diagnostic can be returned to us. We naively agreed to that premise and were expecting a total charge around $2500. When we went to pick up the vehicle, we brought a valid digital coupon code for 10% off which we obtained directly from the Nielson Nissan website (and were anticipating something like another $250 off the bill). The service desk people pretended that only certain managers can honor the discount who don't work that day, and asked if we wanted to drive back another day (40 minutes from our house with 3 young children in the car). Of course we did not want to do that, and then the Nissan team said it has to be $100 max discount for reasons not explained in the coupon code. The final bill - with a $100 discount - was near $3,000 somehow, and appears that the promised $219 diagnostic credit mentioned earlier was a ploy to get us to fix one of the codes. That $219 was a charge on the final bill. Service Rep Mary relayed information back and forth to us throughout the process, however, we did not appreciate the prices changing, nor the $219 credit not coming back, nor the $10% coupon not being honored, which should have been closer to $300, not $100. In our estimation, Nissan over-charged us around $500 on these repairs and was dishonest throughout. Highly recommend avoiding Nielson Nissan. We're curious to see if the company replies, but I'm sure if they do, it will be with the usual snake oil math which dealerships are known for when fleecing customers. Happy to amend this review if the company wishes to discuss a credit, but not holding our breaths.
