This happened the first time, and my second time here, everyone in my group complained of the same issue. I'm not much of a dessert person, but one summer night my boyfriend and I decided we would walk over to Gelayo to give it a go because it sounded cool and refreshing. Gelayo certainly lived up to my expectations, and then some. You can tell the owners really care about their shop by every little detail. The time they took to decorate the place to look fun and inviting, the crazy amount of options for desserts, right down to the fact that everything is kept immaculately clean and stocked. Plus, they're very pleasant and enjoy a quick friendly conversation. They have this amazing pomegranate sorbet that I usually end up mixing with the strawberry froyo and top it with blueberries and watermelon. Where else can you get chunks of watermelon to top your froyo with?! I haven't seen this elsewhere. The prices are very reasonable considering it costs about the same everywhere else in town and I always feel way more satisfied leaving Gelayo than places like Jon n Bon's (plus, I feel that Gelayo's options are way healthier/fresh than Jon n Bon's, I always feel a little sick after I eat there). So thanks, Gelayo, for turning me into a dessert person. My tummy will be happy, but my waistline won't be. Hah read more

Kind of creepy the way the owners will stare you down when you enter. I know they only want to thank you for coming in...but they look so intense on reading your mind or something. Biggest complaint. Gelayo is one of the cleanest, well run, dependable establishments in Chico. I love their Taro Boba Tea-it is the perfect treat on a hot day. The owners are always kind and they have tons of topping-all fresh! They also have gelato made with almond milk so it is not as rich as regular gelato, but a lot lighter on the calorie side. Loved this place. Tried Gelayo for the first time yesterday, and I was impressed. I'm usually put off by serve-yourself places because I'm very distracted and can't choose my way out of a box . . . but this was easy. Never seen such a CLEAN store! The pumpkin yogurt and the pomegranate sorbet were great, with plump fresh raspberries on top, for a VERY good price. And the owners were both there working. Love going to Gelayo! I've been there 3 times now and each visit has been an extra pleasant experience. The workers are SO NICE. They always serve you with a genuine smile. They have boba tea, or you can get boba in a smoothie. I love their frozen yogurt too; lots of flavors and plenty of variety in toppings. I had been going to Jon & Bon's for years but their places seem to be in decline so we decided to try this place. We're glad we did: This place everything Jon & Bon's is not. It's dapper, surgically clean, bright, efficient, organized, and the service is excellent. There is no waiting in line. The owners seem to always be here, and they are very concerned that you are happy with your experience. Try this: show up at closing time (or just a little after like we accidentally did) and you will be greeted with hospitality, a smile, and an open door. The frozen yogurt and all the toppings are self-serve (thus I get my dish exactly how I like it) and the prices are reasonable. I'm headed there right now. read more

This is the only frozen yogurt place I'll go to in town. I've tried the yogurt at Uswirl and Top This because they are closer to where I live but I rather make the drive to Gelayo because it's the best! I love how they have a great selection of fresh fruit. Plus, they always keep their containers clean. The whole place is spotless. I also like their decor. The owners are so friendly. After only my second time there, they remembered who I was. :) All their yogurt is delicious and perfect. It is not too sweet or tarty. I usually get the original tart, jolly rancher, or strawberry. worst place ever! It was my first and last time there and they were so rude to me. I went inside to go order a mocha boba drink and i grabbed a spoon and he looked at me and said "if you want a spoon, you have to ask me". I thought he was being sarcastic at first but he was actually saying that he wont let me take a spoon unless i order a yogurt. Then he suddenly said "I pay for the spoons too you know". I was confused and asked him "then do you charge for a spoon then?" he said "no, ill let you take it this time but there's no next time". He was absolutely rude to me and my friend. after our boba drinks was finished, he took it and said "HERE!" in a very mean and rude way. I am Asian and i have never gone through a issue or problem like this before. Even another lady was having problem and she wasn't even Asian. He charged me 3.00 plus the 50 cents for whip cream. The mocha boba tasted like chocolate milk with a lot of ice. honestly, i will never ever return there again nor let anyone know of this place. If they don't want anyone to take the spoons then they need to put it behind the counter or write a sign on it. read more
