We ended up sharing a medium gelato, which comes with three flavors. We chose the coconut, opera, and biscottino. All flavors were made with quality ingredients and tasted great! Quite a long line on summer evenings. The serving size is a bit small for the price but they have a lot of tasty gelato options. I had chocolate and amaretto flavors in a cup and really enjoyed it. Pretty big patio to sit down and eat which is nice. read more

I have passed this place so many times. I am so glad I came in. The gelato flavors are rich and creamy. I got the amaretto and the chefs choice which were great together. Now that it's getting colder, would you consider adding additional outside heaters? The owner is so horrible. I bought $40.00 of gelato and when the staff couldn't pack it into the pint container properly the owner (Asian man) shows up to take over. He was slamming everything with a temper and made his employees uncomfortable, I was uncomfortable and he was more pissed when I reminded him I asked to pack it with ice (I was in charge of dessert for a dinner party that evening) Again slammed the bags down without a thank you and didn't want to make eye contact. I have seen him gush all over his customers in the past so this weird behavior reads sort of creepy. Meanwhile I managed to compliment their gelato master on her hard work and dedication. Go at least once to taste the gelato BUT run the other way if you see the angry guy. read more

Wow, Gelato 101 is hard to miss on the PCH in Encinitas with its creative outdoor seating and bold sign. After a few round of drinks and food, we were ready for a sweet night cap. It hit the spot. Service was prompt and friendly. Even on a Friday night there wasn't an insane line either. As you can see from the pictures, there's outstanding variety in flavors which are all made with care. Whenever I'd tell people I was headed up to Encinitas - someone would ask if I've tried this gelato shop. One beautiful sunny afternoon I had some time to kill and decided to change my answer. There is way more than just the gelato, but that's what I stuck to for this visit. I loved that they had unique flavors in addition to the classics that we all crave. I opted for a lemon (always my go to) and dragonberry. The dragonberry blew my mind - so good and WOW that color. The lemon was also good, but it was the dragonberry that made me wish I had gotten a larger size. I love how much outdoor seating there is and how they turned it into more of a green space- it's easy to forget that you're steps away from the heart of mainstreet. Gelato 101 is one of my all time favorite gelato places here in San Diego. The biscottino gelato is a fan fave, and I know it sells out quick. The staff are always super friendly, and quick. The place can get pretty packed especially in these hot summer days, so expect to have a little wait time. But it is so worth the wait, and the employees do a great job at moving people along timely. No tasting samples which sucked for me because I don't think I got a good combination. Amaretto with a shot of espresso. Kind of strange combination for my taste. Wow! This is such a cute gelato shop and cafe! I stumbled upon Gelato 101 when I was walking around Encinitas with my friend. The outdoor section is cutely decorated with patio furniture. The flavors change from time to time so I would reccomend calling if you are looking for a specific flavor to see if they have it before your drive. I had been dying to try this spot and it didn't disappoint. I failed to realize it offers so much more than just gelato! Coffee, açaí bowls, smoothies, etc and so many vegan options. We were there for the gelato though, so gelato we had. We stuck with the non-dairy options for the boys but my mother and I were swayed by the pear flavor and had to try it. I don't remember what we got for the non-dairy but I can say I STILL remember that pear really well. It was so refreshing and bold in flavor. This used to be Moonlight Yogurt & Ice the last time I was in this area of Encinitas several months ago. Bottega Italiana bought out the place and converted it to the present gelato shop. I was on my way back south after an event earlier in the day so I decided to get some gelato to take with me. The outdoor front patio area was so pleasant and dog friendly. The inside obviously no longer had frozen yogurt dispensing machines. Besides gelato, the menu featured several varieties of coffee, boba tea, smoothies and acai bowls. I asked to taste a few samples of the products they had in the refrigerated display. My selection was a small cup of two flavors, mango and mixed berry. Each one had a strong fruity taste and was quite sweet. My issue was that for $4.60, the price was a bit high for the two tiny scoops of fresh, organic gelato.
