In this case there was no sharing, I would have broken the arm of anyone who would dare to try and eat a piece of this candy. If I should ever visit Switzerland again, I shall visit your store. It's very cool to watch the many steps some of their creations go through. I finally got to try Cremeschnitte. It's a yummy little dessert with layers of cream and pastry. I think as a joke they make the top a hard jelly layer so it's impossible to cut without smashing the whole thing to pieces. Oh well, it still tastes lovely. Anyway, the people working here were nice and the desserts were yummy. It's just a typical cafe but the thing on the TV was pretty awesome. I guess it makes me feel less guilty paying so much for small candies, the're all hand made with tender love and care, after all.

Ended up having a great conversation with a welcoming patron, who let me practice my German and told me about the city's historical events . There were also some chairs and a few tables set farther out, close to the water. There appeared to be 2 fairly large tables inside, but since it was so nice outside, these were not used while I was there. It was also fairly stuffy inside since it was summer. Pulpo is self-service; you go inside to order and then take your food/drinks out to the tables. There were coffees, teas, alcohol, and hot chocolate on the menu. It appeared they made their own iced tea as well, although I didn't get to try it. There wasn't really a food menu, but you could see the food offerings in the display case inside. When I was there, they had a selection of sandwiches, salads, and yogurts. They also had a few slices of cake and some croissants. There was a good selection of gelatos, which could be served in a cup or a cone. I got a latte macchiato for 5.50 CHF, which sounds expensive but is about the price of a latte macchiato everywhere else in Basel. It came in a tall glass and with a small amaretto biscotti. Note that there is a 2 CHF deposit that is returned to you when you bring back your dishes; they give you a little token that you return for your deposit as well. They only accept cash. There was wifi; the password was prominently displayed by the cash register. The lady manning the café was friendly and spoke English well. The café is located right along the Rhine and has a great view. There's also a foosball table that's good for families. Not a bad place to stop for a break when you're walking along the Rhine.

It reminds me of the French chain Brioche Dorée, but only better. The four of us came here before getting on our train and came away happy we did. The prices are very reasonable, too. Lots of other options including ceviche shrimp, beef tartare (no, even in Switzerland I won't eat it from a deli counter), tuna, sliced chicken, egg salad. And the desserts! Oh, my! I'm not on keto when I'm on vacation but these were still looking too rich for me. But I only barely managed to resist the fruit tart cakes. Coffees and sodas, yes. Beers and wine are across the way. Not a lot of room here for eating and sitting, so we ended up taking it to go and enjoyed it on the train to Zürich. [Review 16454 overall - 7 in Switzerland - 1962 of 2021.]

Taste of food is good based on what I tried including complimentary Amuse Buche, 6 CHF Glass of wine of the week, pasta and club sandwich with good fries. They should use real avocado instead of guacamole though..Service is also friendly. Cheese plate is very good. Worth the price. Wine list has very affordable wines from 44 CHF per bottle. Bread isn't very good though. As coop is just next door, they can just run over to coop and get a few different variety instead of partially dried dark bread.. Breakfast here is good. The veal is one of my favorite. The braised lamb shank cooked just right with the meat falling off without too much effort in cutting. I didn't like the spinach Florentine because I felt the sauce weren't thick enough.
