Any time we needed anything, including the check at the end, we would have to flag him down and ask. I don't recall him checking on us once during the entire meal. Service was average, at best. But the food, was very good. My wife had the pumpkin ravioli, and I had the ham, egg and cheese rosti. Along with a good German beer and my wife's choice of a prosecco, we were happy with the food....except for the bottle of water for the table.....that I was charged 11 euros for! We arrived just at opening for dinner and were the only couple there. We got a warm greeting and seated quickly. Our waiter immediately asked us if we would like a beverage/water. Having checked their website prior to going, I found the brewed their own beers, so I asked what types of beer they had in tap. My wife got a Pilsner and for myself, a German IPA. Bioth were excellent. We had the waiter translate the menu all everything looked awesome so it took awhile to decide. Within a half hour of arriving the restaurant started filling up quickly. Lively crowd but not too loud. An AWESOME experience and a fantastic way to cap off our last evening in Basel.

Seriously, this place is where we ended up eating our dinner for both the nights we were in town. They were easily 10+ Swiss Francs less than any other restaurant that we looked at; we finally said, screw it, let's just eat at the same place again. The best dish that everyone must have - the pork schnitzel, covered in a golden brown mushroom sauce, and a generous size of spätzle. Holy moly, this dish is amazing. If you eat here, you must order this (unless you hate mushrooms...) Also, try one of the rosti's. It's the Swiss version of a hashbrown or potato pancake. I chose to top off with some veggies to be a bit healthier, even though truth is that there's plenty of oil at the bottom of the rosti. On the second night, we went back and also had the true wiener schnitzel, i.e. made of veal. This dish came with rosti as the side, but without the glorious mushroom sauce. Not that the rahmschnitzel was bad, it was ok. The pork was a bit chewy. Our takeaway was we really didn't feel welcome. They refused to sit us outside (lots of available seating), put us in a hot corner, then gave us minimal service while they doted over the table next to us. It felt a bit discriminatory.
