    Beer!
    Hannah F.

Great food, friendly service, and refreshing beer - a worthwhile stop for anyone looking for a hearty dinner in Basel. My husband and I split the pork cheeks w/ spatzel and really enjoyed it. The cheeks were in a dark beer sauce which was rich without being overwhelmingly heavy, and the spatzel was the right amount of salty to go with it. We also really enjoyed the beers at Fischerstube - my husband got the sampler/flight with 4 of their most popular beers (and of course enjoyed them all) and I went with a classic lager style beer. The prices here are also really fair because the portion sizes are huge! We saw several people who had ordered schnitzel and boy oh boy you better come with a big appetite if you plan to finish that dish off!

I ate here upon recommendation from some work colleagues. The restaurant is full of decor of a joker/jester theme that is tied to a Basel area tradition. I ate the pork knuckle with a pretzel and fries. The food was OK and there is a good beer selection here. The place was busy but we had friendly service. 3.5 stars!

Fun fish steins thus the name of the restaurant

Loved the schnitzel! Fun atmosphere on a lovely warm weekend. Was quickly seated and served in a snap.

We had the best dining experience here - food was out standing! Beer is brewed on site and it was very tasty as well! We were lucky to get a table so make sure you make reservations! We plan to go back.

Pretty cool restaurant/bar. They brew their own beer and you can drink in a great variety. If you go as a group i'd suggest the "fässli" (picture in the review). the food is very good too! if you want to show something typical-basel to a tourist or if you like beer; this is the place you go!

The Jubilee Platter. Awesome traditional food.

Fantastic Biergarten in the back (wander through the restaurant, go out the back door and upstairs) with nothing but locals. My boyfriend and I went here for a late-ish dinner on a Saturday night and it was perfect. Amazing Wienerschnitzel and awesome traditional Swiss/German appetizer (The Jubilee Plate) of various sausages, Gruyere, brown bread, small salad of greens and onions and a warm pretzel. Their salads are also great--dressed with a mustard vinaigrette over really fresh bib lettuce. The beer here is amazing--really. They have Ueli Weizen, Lager and Reverenz on tap and it's some of the best I've had in the area. Great food, great atmosphere--only complaint--our waitress was really pokey--but it made it enjoyable because we were in no hurry. Total cost for an appetizer (big enough for a few people to share), a salad (I couldn't finish it), Wienerschnitzel with fries, and 4 beers was just around 100 CHF--which in Switzerland is really not bad at all.

This review is only for the drinks. Stopped in for a beer while walking around Basel. It's very nicely decorated and the staff were very attentive. They are also a brewery and you can view the beer making in the back of the restaurant. Stop in sometime!

The brewmaster salad. Definitely not a diet salad.

Brauerei Fischerstube. When all other restaurants and bars were closing down for the day, Brauerei Fischerstube saved the day and let a few weary American travelers inside for a last minute meal and a brewski. After drinking and eating a fair amount all day, I figured I'd lighten things up and get a pumpkin soup and a "salad". I couldn't say no, however, to one of the tasty beers they make in house. I opted for the hefeweizen and my travel buddy got the weiss beer. As for the menu, they had typical local delights like sausage, spatzle, schnitzel and so on. For something different, I chose the Brewmaster Salad, which turned out to be the most unhealthy (yet delicious) salad I would ever eat. Picture a sparse bed of butter bib lettuce piled high with the greasiest collaboration of stir-fried meats and a few mushrooms - mostly smoked sausage and hunks of bacon. No dressing necessary. I ate as much as I could, but it was not for the casual meat lover. The pumpkin soup was creamy and delicious. I used about a whole loaf of bread to sop up all the pumpkin oil and bits of pumpkin seed. The beer cut through all the flavors and washed it all down. Sadly it was late so we could not continue to drink and check out the beer garden in the back of the restaurant, nor did we get to try their homemade schnapps. If I ever find myself in Basel again (fingers crossed), I would definitely head back to Brauerei Fischerstube for a frosty Swiss beverage and some local fare.

I was recommended to visit this restaurant for traditional Swiss cuisine by a few locals. My friend…read moreand I came here for lunch. The place is located in the heart of Basel, right on one of the main promenades, so it was quite busy that day, mostly with tourists. The restaurant has a big indoor area, plus outdoor seating. We decided to sit inside to enjoy its classic Swiss design and cozy vibe. You can sense the historic charm in the atmosphere, but everything inside was still well maintained and spotlessly clean. Our waiter was very nice and helpful - he gave us tips about Swiss food and recommended a couple of dishes from the menu. The menu, by the way, wasn't very big, and it focused on traditional Swiss classics. We decided to share two dishes: Wienerschnitzel and Cheese Fondue (Käsefondue). The food came out quickly, within about 15 minutes. The pork schnitzel was flavorful and tender, with a perfectly enjoyable texture. We chose French fries as the side, and they were cooked really well. But the star of our lunch was definitely the Cheese Fondue - absolutely delicious! The cheese they used was incredibly rich and flavorful, and the fresh bread served with it was also tasty. Dipping the bread into the melted cheese made it a truly delightful experience. Both dishes were generous in size and more than enough for two people. The only negative about this restaurant is the prices, which are extremely high. The Cheese Fondue cost 38 CHF (about $48) PER PERSON, and the Wienerschnitzel was 40 CHF (about $50). Even though the food was excellent, I found these prices far too steep. The soft drinks we ordered were also expensive - 6 CHF ($8) for a cup of black tea or a Diet Coke. I'm from Miami, where restaurants are pricey too, but not this expensive, so even I was shocked when we got the final bill. Finalizing my review, I can say that I loved every part of my experience at the restaurant except the prices. It's definitely not a place I could afford to eat at every day (like I do in many restaurants in Miami, since I don't cook), but I still recommend checking this restaurant at least once for the experience - to try truly delicious Swiss food. Trust me and order the Cheese Fondue for sure!

You will often spend 100 Swiss Francs per person (approximately 110 US dollars, depending on the exchange rate). With that being said, I don't even know where to start! Started the evening with a glass of prosecco, and sweet potato soup (they put a lump of walnut ice cream in it). It is absolutely divine! We ordered the rack of lamb and the duck. While waiting for the main course, we were brought out delicacies from the chef in the kitchen. Everything paired nicely with their many options of wine. The main courses came out aesthetically pleasing, as well as cooked to perfection. I guess that is to expect from a restaurant that has been around longer than the States. The duck was not over cooked, and the lamb fell of the bone into a sauce that strike your palate. We ended the evening with Swiss chocolates an dessert. Which was mouth watering. We will be back in 10 weeks, and I cannot wait to go here again.

My brother and I stopped by here on our way through Basel for lunch. I ordered the pork and potatoes and my brother had the spicy pizza. Before we ordered our waitress brought us a glass of sparkling water with limes and small berries. It was light and refreshing which hit the spot! She also served us bread with a pork fat spread that had our eyes wide in amazement. Usually spreads are sweet but this one was savory and delicious! The pork was cooked right and the potatoes were filling, however my brother won the food choice award with the pizza. They serve a thin cracker type crust with pepperoni style meat, arugula and some type of creamy cheese that melted in your mouth! I'm not a fan of arugula's strong taste but with this pizza it made it! So delicious and so good! Our waitress spoke wonderful English and helped us translate the menu.
