I live in San Diego so didn't have a nail place in Portland. After this encounter I decided to come back. I got a Gel Builder manicure. I had never heard of it before. They explained that you don't have the gel removed each time you can just have it filled in. They don't have to soak in acetone. They file away the color when you come to get the fill done. It was my first time getting this metallic chrome and it was a bit more involved (and more expensive). Sadly my nails ended up so thick, messy and blotchy. Not to mention they've already started chipping after an hour! My cuticles also took a beating and were bleeding at one point. This manicure is for my 40th birthday party in Palm Springs in two days. I went to Bare for their makeup lessons. I wish I was better with names because the girl who helped me catch up on about 20 years of makeup practice was really sweet and kind even when dysphoria was kicking its ugly head up. Thankfully, Caroline was so sweet and knowledgeable. She gave great tips about what my skin needs and how to care for it long term. She explained every step and why she was doing what she was doing.
