I grew up dancing at San Elijo Dance and Music Academy (SEDMA) and now am back with my own daughter…read more15 years later! I have fantastic memories from dancing ballet, jazz, and lyrical at SEDMA. Some of my fondness memories were from the friendships, sleep overs, rehearsal, and performances. We would take class from 4-6PM on Friday, pick someone's house to sleep over, be back Saturday morning at the studio by 10AM and dance till 2PM and do it all over again. It was so fun. I still dance today as an adult and I feel that ballet especially taught me posture, stage presence, and confidence that helps me in my career any time I public speak or create content . My daughter is still new to dance but loves her classes and is so excited to be back in class this new school year. I hope she has as wonderful of an experience as I did. Our children have been dancing for about 8 years and have taken classes from many local North County dance studios. We travel out of our way for the quality technique instruction from their staff. The studios are clean and maintained. They have viewing windows into the studios and live video feeds on the lobby tvs to watch the classes. The office manager, Ms Olivia, is welcoming and answers questions promptly. Ms Brenda and Mr Anthony run the competition team there. Their communication and scheduling is clear and that is important to parents when planning competitions, travel and family schedules. Their dancers advance and join High School Dance Teams at San Marcos, Mission Vista, Vista, Rancho Buena Vista, Mission Hills, El Camino, Carlsbad, San Pasqual and Classical Academy High School to name a few. We are grateful to Mr Anthony for his dedication to the children and their dance education. He has worked with local families who were abandoned by another local studio to help them re-register for competitions, offer his studio for rehearsals, and provide support to parents who need guidance in the dance competition world. Erin Duclos provides a level of ballet training that is unparalleled by any school in San Diego. Her understanding of ballet technique exceeds her own personal experience as a dancer for many years. She has also studied in depth the best way to train fundamental alignment and technique so as to allow dancers to fully express themselves artistically. She uses physics and analogies of every day activities to make understanding ballet accessible, for beginners and advanced dancers alike. Her methods are tried and true, as many of her students have gone on to become professional dancers. Whenever I have traveled and taken classes at other studios, teachers approach me after class to ask where I trained. Her students' dancing speak volumes to her abilities as an instructor. Her knowledge is extensive in many aspects of ballet; including correct verbiage (rather than Americanized ballet slang), costuming (she can make tutus!), choreography (both original and staging other works), and a general understanding of the ballet world - which is useful in many contexts, for example, when looking for advice for auditions. Perhaps what I love most about To The Pointe is the warm and welcoming atmosphere Mrs. Duclos has fostered. It is a studio of support, friends, and fun, and mean spirits are not tolerated.
