Cute but pricey stuff. We stopped in when we were walking around this cute area of Bloomington. Very welcoming and inviting. We were greeted immediately by the employee at the counter. We browsed and chatted with her. I touched all the luxe looking items and wished my bank account was fatter. We left without buying anything but having feasted our eyes and certainly *wanting* things! I am sure to stop in again when I am back for my semi-annual trek to the town! read more

Such a cute little shop in Bloomington, Indiana! I loved the plants up front and calendars, prints, shirts, candles, etc from local artists and makers. We ended up spending about half an hour in the store just browsing. Perfect spot for getting gifts that are unique, cute, and fun! read more

There is a nice variety of giftware here, but an important caveat at the end. You'll find much in the forms of earrings, necklaces, wall art, LGBTQ+ focused stickers, other stickers and gear. I've frequently made purchases here. There are Bloomington and Indiana-focused items. A table full of various stickers, many of which will make you smile. Prices are often very reasonable for hand-made art, although what's actually handmade, Indiana artisan versus manufactured is difficult if not impossible to tell. Bring a magnifying glass, as the price stickers are in a font that requires binoculars. The downside is: they only take cards. No Cash. It's my personal belief that this is injurious to people that don't have cards, and philosophically is illegal. There is an argument (not presented by the clerk) that cash spreads COVID, but this is the first shop in Bloomington I've found with this policy, and so the other shops are dealing with this possible problem. The policy is onerous, and robbed my score of a full star. The summary is: Good place to find jewelry and gifts, a positive atmosphere, broad selection, but don't bring money. I absolutely love local handmade items and this shop did not disappoint! So many neat graphic prints, pottery, shirts, handmade fabric items, a little bit of kid items, etc. The atmosphere was nice and quiet and I did not feel obligated to buy like I do in most shops similar to this one. A friend and former classmate from IU suggested that I stop in this little shop on the square when I visited Bloomington last weekend. She said they carried a line of handmade soap and lotions that she liked as well as many other great items. She was right on all counts! Located across from the Courthouse, parking is on-street only and fairly easy to find. I stopped by at 5 pm on the Friday of a holiday weekend, so it was a bit more challenging. Bring quarters unless your on foot, biking it, or there after meters end. Gather has all the quirky, gifts items from letterpress art to molecular jewelry (and cards) that you could ever want for friends and family. It's a one stop for birthdays, Christmas, whatever occasion. I loved that the products are mostly handmade (& many seemed to be from Indiana). The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, answering all my questions about their stock. I bought some of the soap that brought me there originally and will make sure to stop back by on my next trip through Btown. read more

Gather is one of my favorite shops in the whole wide world. Whenever I have friends or fam come from out of town, I bring them here. It's the perfect place to show off how amazing our local art scene is. Gather's a locally focused, curated gift shop filled with homemade things from all kinds of incredibly talented (mostly, if not entirely) Midwestern artists. If you're looking for a gift for an IU grad, a Bloomington friend or family member, or any person anywhere that appreciates art and beautiful things, shop here. They're located on the Square, perfectly situated for walk-in browsing, window shopping, and inevitably, unexpected (or expected) splurging. Items range from jewelry (earrings, necklaces, broches, buttons aren't really jewelry but there are buttons, and so on) to art prints, planters, handmade bibs and toys for kids and babies, to chocolates, bath things, colognes, candles, and more. I can't remember everything because there's just so much. They've adjusted beautifully to the era of coronavirus by shifting things online (not an easy task), pushing for ppl to continue to support artists as they can. Not only that, but they stand for worthy causes. Just this week, they closed early NOT because they were worried about the safety of their staff during the Black Lives Matter protest, but because they wanted their employees to be able to join in! They've also donated to the cause. If I remember correctly (pretty sure I do), they've also supported women's and refugee rights in the recent past, among many other beautiful, worthy causes. A really cool handmade shop kind of hidden in the middle of downtown Bloomington. So many cool things to be found in this shop. Almost everything we looked at we were impressed with. They had these great magnets that were like hand drawn on these small circular magnets of a ton of great pop culture type things like Seinfeld, Waynes World, Arrested Development, The Goonies, Wes Anderson films (I picked up the Royal Tenenbaums set), etc etc. Pretty cool find. Everything was interesting here. From card sets, to shirts, to little gadgets and gizmos..all hand made..all radically distinctive. This seems like it would be a great place to pick up a gift for that extra quirky person in your life. Very reasonably priced (and regardless it feels good to spend money in a place like this). My partner and I stopped by Gather for the first time while strolling around Bloomington...and I think we'll be back any time we visit in the future. We took our time to explore the fairly large space and it felt like I discovered something new every corner I walked around. Gather is a treasure trove of cards, art prints, stickers, candles, tshirts, and other local gifts. They have some of the most unique items I've seen in a store like this. Gather is just what a hometown boutique should be. Talia, the owner extraordinaire, has filled this cozy shop with locally produced delights - edible, wearable, displayable - all wonderful. She had teamed up with the girls from Bea's Soda Bar to curate her food items, with a resulting eclectic and delightful collection of mouth-watering items. Gather also stocks oh-so-soft t-shirts with adorable Indiana-isms, uniquely scented candles, and a plethora of other local items. I'm a fan. read more

I bought a $30 (scenic courthouse cover) nightlight for a friend. Before sending it, I noticed the light bulb was dark. I tested it in another nightlight. The lightbulb didn't work. Then tested the nightlight itself with the functional bulb from the other nightlight. Yeah - it didn't work. It would only work if you, literally, held the two pieces of plastic its made of together (with a light bulb other than the one provided). Furthermore, the store didn't email the receipt, couldn't look it up and the manager said it didn't matter because they don't take returns. Shop local? read more

I had a great time visiting Gather during the Yelp Bloomington Getaway weekend. I am always a huge fan of supporting local businesses and artisans, so this little gem makes it too easy. It has a wide selection for all of those gifty occasions, including the upcoming summer onslaught of weddings, babies, moms, dad, and grads. And the food...oh the food. I was more than thrilled to see "Be Happy" peanut butter sold here and took the time to purchase the White Chocolate Pretzel flavor. It has since been my nightly dessert indulgence. I also love this store because of the great craft ideas I got from some of the products. While I am likely NOT going to take my precious time to make some of these projects (and will most likely end up buying them in the long run) it's nice to think I could get all Pinterest-y one day and get it done. In the meantime, I will enjoy my framed Indiana print while eating my delicious PB. Well done, Gather. Gathering is a pop-up shop, and this Fountain Square Mall location closed after the holidays. However, it wasn't the first and won't be the last - it'll just be in a new location. The shop was full of handmade items seemingly from around the Midwest and many even local. Items included jewelry, pottery, lip balm, t-shirts, scarfs, posters, wallets, journals, toys, bibs, crayons, and more. They were a little light on items for men, as it typical for these types of stores. Still, I'd like to see them branch out a little. A great place to find gifts. Happy Peanut Butter (made in Zionsville) and also ended up with some cute cat magnets! My experiences with the Gathering have been totally positive. I participated in the first Gathering, which took place in an artist's home and in their most recent one at the Blueline Gallery. The first one was small and intimate and the most recent one was like a hip party, filled with music and lots of great art. It's obvious that Talia and her team of volunteers have committed to making the Gathering the best handmade boutique in town, learning from each event and putting that knowledge to work by making each event bigger and better. Talia H., the founder of the Gathering is not only a talented and innovative craftsperson herself but she has a good head for the business end of things and she has an amazing ability for bringing together talented artists and craftspeople. I am proud to have been included with those invited to sell their wares and I'm looking forward to participating in the next event which I know will be the best Gathering yet! read more
