Lunch buffet is the best. All of the food tastes amazing. I've been to dinner as well, but buffet is nice to try different things. I've been to a handful of Indian restaurants in the midwest and this is the best I've had. read more

This place was pretty good. It also is very oddly shaped. We went for the lunch buffet and came away happy. It had a good selection, with decent quality, and all for about $9. For Springfield (which doesn't have a ton of restaurants), this place was amazing. read more

Knowing about Indian food myself, most disgusting food I ever had was in this restaurant. I am pretty sure that most of the food served here is not necessarily prepared on the same day. So, please prepare yourself for the heated stale food if you are willing to try this place. There are couple of better Indian places in Blmgtn. Trust me, it is worth eating there compared to this one. Thanks. read more

Its been just a week I came to US. While I'm searching for a decent Indian restaurant, I found Gateway to India. Its very nearer to Chatham Hills. It just takes a 10 min walk towards Shop n Save. Food here is Nice and delicious. Especially Tandoori Chicken is awesome. Butter Non is perfectly smooth, soft and fluffy. Mutton Biriyani is cooked in perfect desi style & Mutton pieces can be easily swallowed. Mango Ice cream at the climax is good & gives a pleasant feel at the ending. Overall its a good restaurant & I suggest you to have Lunch buffet as you can taste all the items and choose best one of your choice to eat. What I love is, people here interacts with the customers and ask how food tastes. So every feed back you give makes the dish more Delicious for the next one to eat. So If you got a chance, don't miss to have some tasty fun here with your family and friends. read more

Authentic, delicious, reasonable cost, great atmosphere, considerate staff and always a great choice at lunch. Many vegan and vegetarian options, alcohol (beer and wine) available as well. I also enjoy the music they play. This is my date restaurant, as well as Hen House for American and Gallina's for Italian. Best Indian food in Springfield, in my opinion. read more

I was never into Indian growing up in Springfield, probably just because I had not been exposed to it. After living in Chicago for 6 years I developed a serious love with Indian. Devon had been one of my favorite areas to dine. Coming back to Springfield I thought all was lost in the arena of good food, however, Gateway does prove to be amazing. This is Indian food that rivals Indian joints in the big city. I love lamb and Gateway does it great. I have had many dishes here but the Lamb Tikka Masala is my favorite. If you like spicy, go for it but your nose will run if you order your dish to max. spice levels. Probably not best for date night. The service is always pretty prompt. I have even been here with small children (under 5) and it has never been an issue. Oddly enough they are almost never busy, but that means I always get a table right away! :) read more

I just had dinner at Gateway to India, and I am now compelled to write a review. After going to Gateway to India a few times, I noticed that they consistently ask for my pin number because "my credit card" would not take. A couple of visits ago, someone literally looked at my fingers entering the pin numbers, and tonight, they asked me for the pin so that they could enter the pin number themselves. After leaving the restaurant, I changed the pin number. I think it is common sense to allow the customer to enter the pin number by themselves without having having someone look over their shoulder. I use a credit card and at a fundamental level, I still fail to see why I need to enter a pin number. I'm just posting this just in case, it's happened to you. Also, the mango ice cream dessert was presented in a small plastic container in about a ketchup shaped container, and their tikka chicken was very dry and may have been leftovers from lunch. I will never go back to this restaurant. read more

I was here for lunch (buffet) on the Memorial Day 2014. The food selection overall was nice. Lately, I have noticed that some of the restaurants serve frozen samosas and spring rolls and fries in the buffet maybe because its more convenient for them. Their samosas and rolls also seemed to have come straight from the freezer and then fried. Otherwise, the service and ambience is relatively better. I specially like the naan and aloo tikis and channa. Other vegetables tasted more more or less the same(spinach paneer, baingan bharta, dal makhani, paneer makhani). read more

It is a surprisingly good Indian restaurant -given that it is the only Indian restaurant in town (AFAIK). I have been there a couple of times during my visits to Springfield - and I have found the food to be consistent and good. Both times that I have been here - the host (owner) was the waitress as well and she usually engages you in a very good conversation. Given that I am a stickler for some Indian food when I travel - I am extremely likely to visit them when I get back to Springfield again. I liked the Onion Kulcha and the Sag Paneer (Spinach and Cheese) this time around. Vegetable Curry was ok and so was Bhindi Masala. I haven't seen much by the way of crowd here - mainly I guess because of the location (quite a bit off downtown and hence not easy for visitors to get to) read more

Awesome find(was in town for a visit) The most extensive menu i have seen in an Indian restaurant. Overall good food, the best thing was chili paneer appetizer! The samosas were great too! read more

Thank God this place exist . We had the buffet and it was awesome . Food is 100% authentic. We came here with 2 toddlers and 2 infants during busy lunch hour. The owner seemed nice although I think she was annoyed with the kids making a crazy mess . ( Sorry bout that.) There isn't a changing table in the bathroom neither . I ate here before during dinner and must say the lunch buffet is where it is at . read more

Delicious! I had been wanting to try this place for quite a while now and finally did. I always tend to order the same thing if I order off of the menu at an Indian restaurant, however depending on the restaurant, even when I say not spicy it tends to be a little too spicy for me. Not here. It was perfect! Will definitely be back! read more

LOVE this place! It's as good as it gets in SpringPatch. It's the only Indian restaurant in the county. My only disappointment is that they are closed on Mondays. The paper table cloths make sense, given that there are sauces in every dish (except the rice or Salad). It is not a vegetarian place, although there are plenty of vegetarian options. Love this place. I've only been to their lunchtime buffet. read more

Delicious lunch buffet and superb dinner selection. The owners and staff appear to take a lot of pride in their business and thd food they serve. There is always something new to try. Love this place! read more

Excellent food, especially their vegetarian dishes. Wonderful, attentive service. Unfortunately we haven't been able to go there for the past year because of COVID, but have continued to get food delivered from them. It is still the same great quality. Can't wait till we can go back to in-person dining. read more

I lived in Northern India for a while, so I know (and love) Indian food. This is one of my favorite restaurants. Great variety of dishes, and always tasty. The masala tea, samosas, and korma are especially wonderful. The staff is very friendly, and they always recognize us and even know our "usuals." Highly recommend for lunch (great buffet) or a nice evening out. read more

Wonderful Indian food. Many choices on the buffet. Have been there 4 times and it's consistently delicious. And I love the fresh basket of naan they bring to the table. People on here have complained about waitstaff. While they are not the most friendly, they promptly remove plates, fill water, etc. With food this good, who cares about their friendliness? I almost avoided this place because of those reviews until I realized it was about waitstaff instead of food. So glad I ignored those. If you want really good Indian food, give them a chance! read more

I can't comment on the food, other than to say that my SO's mother dined here recently and was shocked at how the quality of food had gone downhill. Not taking her advice, we decided to give Gateway a try. Outside, the restaurant and parking lot are really run down, and you can see the remnants of a Lychee Garden sign still on the building. The parking lot is full of potholes, but remember, this is the rust belt and not everything is pretty here. We went inside to have lunch, and as to be expected at an Indian restaurant, they were featuring a lunch buffet. We wanted to do a vegetarian thali but couldn't find one on the menu. The walls and table of our booth were extremely dirty and there was food buildup on the wall as well as on our glasses. Since there was not a vegetarian thali, we checked out the buffet. The food looked horrid, and considering the overall cleanliness, we slipped out as fast as we came in. read more

Below average to way below average vegetarian buffet. Rude and egoistic owner. Bad service. That's the overall review. Now, let's dive in details. It all started with our call to them enquiring about the buffet menu. We were in a group and trying to figure out which place to go for buffet. We unfortunately ended up going here, a big mistake. We reach there, got a table and started the journey to misery. I started with the mango ice cream. It was delicious. The potato tikki was ok, spring roll didn't feel like it had any stuffing. The noodles were delicious, mini samosa was good. So an overall a pretty decent starter experience. Then I turned to main course. The saag chole was taste less, korma was way too diluted to have any taste, mutter paneer was feeling like they forgot to put any spices, salt in it. When we asked for refilling the naan and we had to wait for around 15 minutes and ask them 3 times before they sent out more naan, and that too half the quantity of the first time. So main course was disappointing. For dessert we tried gulabjamun, it was rubbery, and literally tasted like sugar juice. Gulab jamun has a taste, and one here didn't taste anything like a gulab jamun. So to revive the taste I thought of having mango ice cream again to end with. The taste of ice ream changed with the change of tub. It was over sweet, too much mango pulp was used and was nearly inedible. A very bad food experience for lunch. The experience didn't end here. Owner then came and asked us how we found food. We told him what we felt and he just went off without saying anything. Then after what we felt like he made his people taste the food, he came back and said dude I made everyone taste and no one found any issue with the food and if "5 of 100" people don't like the food then he can't help it and he isn't bothered. He said that the one of the dishes is customized for American people and you won't like it but with others there is no issue. We were shocked. We didn't have a word to say to him after he said that. Then we waited for check for 15 more minutes and then when we asked they came and said we have to go and pay at counter. It felt like since we didn't like the food they don't care how they treat us any more and they aren't bothered if we exist. It was pathetic and I have never experienced such a behavior with any restaurant ever. read more

IT was the worst service ever!!We waited for over 30 mins for drinks only to ask another waitress and to find out they were out of what we had ordered. Then our waitress who looked like she either didn't speak English or couldn't understand English didn't come back to take our orders until an hour after we had sat down. To top it off when we told the owner who could tell we were obviously upset with the service and he could care less. It's very disappointing when a place you previously had enjoyed going changes management to have the worst food and poor cleanliness in Springfield. read more

I've been relocated to Springfield for work, and have been finding it hard to find some Chicago quality food. Gateway did it for me! The food here pretty much shocked me, I thought it would be the typical bland food I've grown accustomed to out here, but it was anything but. I ordered the dinner for one, which included tandori chicken, mutton, naan, and some sort of sausage kabob. It was surprisingly very good! The kabob was really, really tasty. The mutton and tandori were also very good, although the tandori chicken was a little dry for my taste, but I used the lemons they provided to combat this. Overall, the food was very good, and I would definitely recommend visiting Gateway To India. I'm actually going to go back there tonight! *mouth waters* read more

I had never had Indian food before. During an event at LLCC, there was a little buffet with cultural food from around Springfield. After having tried the little bit of food their table offered, I knew I had to go to their actual location to give it a try. I've only ever been there for the lunch service. I don't know if the buffet is also available at night, but I prefer as I really have no idea what I like there and enjoy having the option to try a little of everything. read more

Fantastic. I've had a lot of Indian food in a lot of cities here and in the UK, and this place is about the best. Just, go there. Like now. Seriously. You will NOT regret it. read more

The worst Experience I ever had... Soon after We enter the place for lunch buffet .. I went here in 2001. The food was too spicy and the fruit drinks were too expensive.

Every meal I've eaten here has been pretty awful. My chicken had freezer burn and came with melted kraft singles slices of cheese.

Food is good, I enjoy the lunch buffet. Though I did get food poisoning once, I should have known because there was a piece of chicken on the buffet that was separated from the rest of the other chicken, probably should have assumed it was bad. Other than that the other numerous times I've been there it had been pleasant. read more

I'm not normally a fan of Indian food, but my friend Stan took me here, and he was right, this place is delicious. I can't give it 5 stars, however, because I'm not really a fan of Indian food. But I think 4 stars is a pretty good review anyway. read more

Best indian buffet around! Great service and atmosphere! Good size buffet with plenty of options!

I came here with the familia on a Sunday to try out the lunch buffet. This was far and away the best tasting restaurant I had in Springfield. The flavors weren't dumbed down like I found at a few other places and the dishes were made well. The service was extremely friendly and by the way they treated each other I assume it's a family own and run joint. The buffet had a nice amount of choices and each of us loved the food. Skip those other bland Midwestern grease pits and venture out here. read more

Hi, One day we felt very tired and tried to order food. I Ordered Food from this Restaurant (Gateway To India). I ordered Malai Kofta, nan and Goat Briyani. Oh my God. Its Horrible. The Briyani is tangy with different colors in that. Cant eat it. Malai Kofta was very hard with red color. Cant eat anything. Then we cooked food and had :( . We went and dine in when there was a crowd. The food was good. We thought, the "to go" is not good and again we went there. It was not crowded at that time. It was a normal working day. We felt hungry and went there. Oh no. The food was too horrible. The nan alone was good. The remaining items are very bad and cant eat anything. When we told the lady (I believe owner) about the food and it was not good, she didnt apologize for it. She just ignored us. I wouldnt go there again. read more

This is meant to be 4.5 stars. I reserve my 5-star rating for Dosa (Indian restaurant in San Francisco). I love eating here and so do my girlfriends, so we usually reserve this for girls' night. This establishment is family-operated and I see the same friendly, conscientious people there every time I go, putting their hearts into making it a great restaurant. I've tried many of their dishes, which have consistently been beautifully rounded out with a perfect balance of savory & sweet Indian flavors and interesting textures. The lunch buffet is worth the price, and a fantastic way to sample their various dishes. From the vegetable samosas to the naan, to the curry, to the uniquely delectable tea cakes for dessert, this place has home-runs in every section of their menu. One thing that I ding them for, though, is that some of the vegetables in their dishes are seemingly pre-packaged, frozen bulk vegetables. I was so dismayed to see ridge-cut carrot circles, like straight out of a plastic bag of Green Giant veggies from the grocery store. To be a 5-star place, you have to use fresh ingredients! The wine pours are very small too. Also, I should note that this is not likely where you would go for a romantic night when ambiance really matters. It's quite drafty and the decor is outdated. The food is great, so if you can ignore the lackluster ambiance, it's a solid choice. read more

Friendly people and really good food. Hit this place up if you find yourself in Springfield and want something better than diner cuisine.

I first came here on 16th birthday because my parents finally let me after begging to try it for many years. I am glad I came during lunch to have the buffet. The selection is plentiful and the naan is better than life! Been back many times! read more

Ventured into this place for the lunch buffet and was pleasantly surprised. The food was fresh and delicious. The punjabi curry was an especially good example. The southern dishes (Sambar in particular) will be skipped next time but the rest was really good. It was not too oily or salty and had the flavor of a chef who cared how it turned out. The restaurant itself was a bit dark and dated but it was very clean. Service was very good and friendly. I will definitely be back if I'm in Springfield again. read more

This restaurant is one of our favorites in Springfield! Have loved Indian food since first eating at Gaylords in San Francisco in the late 1970s (Ghiradelli Square)- For a special night out, we tend to choose Gateway to India- I especially love the Chicken Tikka, or Tandoori Chicken. There is also a popular lunch buffet, but we tend to save a meal like this for dinnertime. The atmosphere is very friendly and comfortable. The only drawback might be that the food is so good, we tend to overeat! read more

My BF's favorite restaurant in town. He's always trying to get me to go. It's expensive for what you get -- a little pot with a candle underneath, and a plate of rice. I suggest the lunch buffet, especially for the less adventureous. Indian food isn't my favorite, but it is growing on me. I stick with Dal Makani when we go for dinner. read more

We visited Gateway to India while visiting my Central Illinois home. We went on New Year's Eve, and it was not very crowded at all. Unfortunately, the lone waitress working that night was overburdened but also seemed a little bit inept at her job. On the upside, she did apologize profusely and the food was mostly great, especially the impeccable chicken tikka masala. We'll give it another try next time we're home, and here's hoping there will be more servers on staff at that time. read more

I really enjoy this restaurant. The food is very good here and it is a great place to go when we are in Springfield.
