My sisters and I meet here multiple times a year and have always loved staying at Gateway; However, the last time we were here, the lobby was kept at an uncomfortably warm/hot temperature. Even though the staff is phenomenal - we love them all (Loretta, Ernesto,...), they said the temperature couldn't be changed. Management also ditched happy hour with wine/beer (making the Gateway a "dry" happy hour) - this was easier to accept (since we could just bring in our own drinks) until we found they still offer that at their sister hotel a few blocks away... Honestly, we'll probably still book here (unless the lobby temperature does not get resolved) because of the staff and how clean the place is, but we're starting to feel like the ugly step sister over here compared to their larger, more accommodating hotel a few blocks away! *** update - also, this seems to be a new thing... on the day we were checking out, they had a convention of sort (based in their conference room) that FILLED the lobby all day with people. Not optimal for guests with children. I enjoy sitting in the lobby however not only was it full all day but filled with the general public - an element I didn't appreciate. read more

This place was awesome. The room was very clean, the kitchenette had the essentials I needed for a brief stay, and the happy hour was a fantastic bonus. Two free beers for every night, AND nachos, AND popcorn, AND copious other snacks. They had coffee and tea 24/7, which is a rare treat in hotels these days, and a better-than-continental breakfast too. I enjoyed the hot tub and pool immensely, and they also have a small exercise room. One thing that really impressed me was the daily housekeeping service. Lots of hotels these days have maintained a default setting of no mid-stay service, conveniently justified by Covid safety protocols, and you have to specifically request it. Gateway takes the opposite approach, which speaks to a considerably greater interest in making you feel like an important guest, I think... a throwback to when hotels demonstrated exceptional services to woo guests away from motor lodges or something. These guys posted a sign claiming something like a 9.6 rating on hotels.com or one of those online booking sites. I don't doubt it for a moment, personally. The place was an absolute steal at that price. I will always come back here when I go to Sierra Vista. read more

This place is clean and neat. The bed was tad bit lumpy, and the furniture was a little bit too old; but everything was doable and clean. The staff was incredibly nice; plus when you check in, you get a happy hour drink -- which I thought was a nice touch. The gym is a little lacking in equipment, quite cramped and definitely needed some AC; but the staff worked with me to get it cranked up in the morning. The pool is a tiny small little dipping hole, but once again it is clean. The location is right up against the military base and the Veterans' Memorial as you pull off of Buffalo soldiers trail onto Fry Avenue. I Would definitely stay here again. read more

A hidden treasure for sure. Their rate is less than half of the Hampton, where we normally stay. The suite is equipped with a full kitchenette , all basic kitchen equipment plus a 17cft fridge . The stove top, microwave and fridge are clean,clean,clean! The room and bathroom sparkle as well. We were on the third floor. Great, quiet and clean! The staff is helpful and friendly . I highly recommend this property and we will stay here from now on when in Sierra Vista. A weight room and outdoor pool are available to work off excess calories gained from eating out. Hot breakfast is offered- great variety and good!!!!Monday's thru Thursday they also offer dinner. Popcorn and snacks are available every day in the late afternoons and evenings. read more

Downgrade on March 2024: There have been staffing changes so while the employees are still very kind and accommodating, there are those who are unclear on policies. Also, room service is now only every three days. Why pay good money if you can't even get your room cleaned? Lastly and most importantly: I'm here on business and rely heavily on my computer for Zoom meetings, etc. I spent four days here and never once could get internet connectivity on any of my three new Apple components. It was infuriating. It literally ruined the whole purpose of my trip. I tested internet speed last night and it was clocking in at only 2.1 Mbps!! It was completely unusable. You can forget all about trying to stream anything on your tablet or iPad. A total bummer. read more

Stayed for two nights and was surprised how enjoyable it was. It was pet friendly, quiet and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The put out a very nice Happy Hour in the lobby with free drinks and hot snacks. Breakfast was included and not bad at all. The business center was fully equipped for what I needed. I am extremely satisfied with my stay here. It's pretty clean, the staff is very friendly, and it's conveniently right next to Fry street and Fort Huachuca. You also get two free beers a night, and they have a small free breakfast, waffles, and coffee every morning, and free popcorn and snacks in the evening. The free internet/WiFi is a bit slow in the evenings, also the gym's weight machine is probably the strangest modern art looking contraption I've ever seen. As for customer service, my travel credit card had some problems and I had to run and catch my flight, but Tracy the manager was more than helpful and put the charge on hold until I could get the credit card sorted out. Because of her I was able to make my flight and fix the problem the next day. 5/5 for customer service! I absolutely would stay here again in the future. read more

First off, I had BED BUGS in rooms 324 and 321. My proof was the 40 or so bites up and down my body, the bloody sheets, and a bed bug shedding I found under the mattress. After all that, the maintenance guy and head of house keeping were reluctant to believe me. Luckily, the manager believed me and paid to launder all my clothes and switch me rooms. I stayed in my new room for about a week until I noticed another blood spot on my pillow then I called and made reservations at a hotel on base for rest of my TDY. I'm not sure if the bed bugs followed me over to the new room or if it was already infected. I did tell the manager again and she had the room sprayed but the person who sprayed didn't even move the mattress. Seems lazy. I understand that the room cleaning crew may be understaffed and overworked by their managers, but, when you leave the "change linens" sign on your bed they definitely do not do so. They just tidy your bed up and move on. They did this twice to my bloody, BED BUG infested sheets in the old room and another time in the new room. The only upsides to this hotel is that it is located near a couple great restaurants, a gym, and the coop. Easy access to places around town plus it's right next to base. They do offer evening snacks such as popcorn and nachos along with two free beverages a night to include wines, beers, water, and other soft drinks. The hotel is aged and shows it. Some rooms have lingering odors such as cigarettes or chemicals. I'm unsure what the chemicals could be.... Would have been a nice stay if it wasn't for the BED BUGS. read more

Really, really good hotel. Good location, good price, it's clean, and they even have happy hour with free popcorn, nachos, and an allowable two beers. Can't give it 5 stars for two reasons. First, the pool was shut down. Second, I found the DirectTV was pretty poor. Channel selection was few, and lacking in many channels that a traveler might want (business, news, weather, etc). A hidden gem in small town Sierra Vista! Stayed at this hotel suite for 30 days while looking for a permanent place to live. Fully efficient kitchen with cookware, plates, and utensils in the room. Housekeeping service was available upon request and they always did a great job. Happy hour every night 2 free beers and good spread - from 6pm to 9pm. Small small gym with outdoor heated pool. The owner honored the local per diem and he supports the military community which was a plus. Hotel is located across the VFW post which has bingo on Wednesdays and Saturdays, of course a bar if you have access. Also very convenient location within walking distance from restaurants. Clean. My husband and I had never been over here in Sierra Vista, so we hopped on the motorcycle and took a drive down. We booked this motel room through Expedia. This place was more than we expected. The staff was friendly and professional. The room was clean and spacious. In the evening there were complementary chili and salad and chips if anyone was hungry. In the morning breakfast was very nice--eggs, bacon, waffles, bagels, yogurt, donuts, milk, juice, and coffee. We would definitely stay here again. read more

I would have given Gateway a 4 or 5 however the wifi was weak, ineffective and unreliable in my room. (1st floor close to lobby) The signal was fine in the lobby but I had several confidential online items and I did not want to conduct business in public. I would not recommend Gateway Studios if you need the internet during your stay. Gateway Studios was a clean, reasonably priced lodging while in Sierra Vista. It had very good amenities such as the pool and fitness center. The happy hour was also a nice touch. Sorry, though, they said they "were working on it" but the problem remained through my entire 4 day stay and completely detracted from what could have been a very pleasant stay. We've been road tripping for over 1 week and this place was the cleanest and the friendliest place we stayed. The larger than normal space with kitchenette made eating healthy easier and the wine and beer in the evenings a nice way to end the day after much sight seeing. Loved this place! It's not a 5-star hotel like the Ritz is a 5-star hotel, but for an inexpensive place, it is a home run. We arrived about 8pm and were greeted by a very friendly and welcoming young lady at the front desk. We were offered two free drinks for their happy hour (what economy hotel does this??) then checked into a very clean room equipped with a fridge, microwave and electric stove. Pots and pans too. There's a modest buffet breakfast that was constantly being refreshed and tidied by the staff. Kudos to the management there - everyone we encountered seemed to really take pride in their jobs, from the desk staff to the young man vacuuming the hall in the morning to the woman supervising the breakfast buffet. This was by far the best hotel we have ever stayed in! The suite was great! It had a little stove, mini fridge and microwave! It also had dinnerware and pots and pans! The room came with a king size bed, a sleeper sofa and a recliner! The complimentary breakfast was good! The pool and spa was really nice! They even have a grill by the pool so you can cook out if you want to! The pool and gym are open 24 hours because they are away from the rooms so you don't have to worry about hearing kids having fun! The staff was great and very friendly! The hotel is centrally located in Sierra Vista so we were able to go to other areas without having to change hotels! My husband and I we definitely be going back! And the price was great as well for those on a budget! I will definitely be telling friends and family about it! read more

Ok so just an FYI I hate staying at hotels unless they look like the RITZ , BUTTTtt I can't afford that for a long stay nor do they have something like that by Fort Huachuca. I can honestly say that every single staff member that we encountered during our entire stay was super nice and very accommodating. The room was very clean even though I dislike flowery couches. At least the sheets were all white. I looked around thoroughly and didn't see any weird stuff or dust anywhere. I am a clean freak so I felt pretty good about our stay for my son's Army AIT graduation. I'd recommend this place for sure. read more

The people here are awesome! Friendly and very professional. The rooms are surprisingly large with a small kitchenette, a sitting area and the bed. The range even has two burners. The rooms are clean and furnished decently for the price range of the hotel. This hotel does have a laundry room on the second floor with coin operated machines. Some downsides were the size of the fridge it's about the size of a mini fridge and the Internet. The rooms have wifi and Ethernet but you are limited to 4gbs a day and certain streaming websites are blocked. This place is a great place for an extended stay business trip. read more

This was my second time staying here. Honestly, I've stayed at 5 star resorts and not received as good of service as you get here. It may not seem like anything fancy initially, but the staff make it extremely special. It's very clean and comfortable and has lots of amenities. There is breakfast every day and snacks and drinks in the evening. The first 2 alcoholic drinks are free! The staff here is wonderful. Especially the night desk clerk Ralph. He was so kind to our family. Our kids were very sad to leave. Everyone took a genuine interest in making sure we had a great experience. I hope to have a reason to come back to Sierra Vista just to stay here. read more

Do not stay at this hotel. They do not prepare the rooms for customers, leaving the AC turned off so when you arrive it's 80 degrees or more in your room during the day. The internet barely functions at speeds of about 1-2 mbps. The hotel internet is also a completely open, unsecure network for anyone to connect to, which can be a large issue depending on what brings you to Sierra Vista. The refrigerators in the room are dysfunctional, only allowing you to completely freeze all your food or not working at all. The dinner and breakfast are both below average. The furniture in the rooms is old and looks dirty. The complimentary beers are the only thing getting me through a long stay here. I am going to attempt switching hotels if possible. read more

The staff was very friendly. The room, lobby, and pool area were clean and well maintained. The only issue we had was the beds. We reserved a room for four people, yet there was only a king bed and a love seat sofa bed which is a twin, not large enough for two people. My daughter drew the short straw and had to sleep on the recliner. She was not happy, and we all know how much joy an angry teenager can bring to a trip. I asked if we could get a rollaway bed or even just a mattress to throw on the floor. The lady at the front desk apologized and said housekeeping had gone home and they had key for the beds. This is the nicest non-chain hotel that I've stayed in! They serve a REAL breakfast from 5:30AM to 9:00AM. Very convenient for my early mornings. They have happy hour everyday...each room gets two REAL drinks for free. The prices are great after that, too. The staff was very warm, inviting, and professional, too. It's hard to believe that such a small staff can operate a hotel better than a larger, more corporate hotel chain. Another great thing was the 24-hour pool and jacuzzi. The cleanest I've seen in a long time. Also, the location is perfect- the gate to Fort Huachuca can literally be seen from the parking lot. All in all, it's just a great hotel. Overall this is a very decent hotel. The property seems pretty new and is kept very clean. I even came back to my room one day when the maid was still there and was on her hands and knees scrubbing the tile floor near the bathroom. I was impressed. The gym is small but all of the cardio machines work properly. That seems like a rarity these days. The number of freebies are pretty top notch as well. The breakfast is standard with most hot and cold items you see at other hotels. All I have to complain about is the agonizingly slow toaster. How petty is that? Also, there are always bowls of fresh fruit available in the lobby all day and in the evening they open up four beer taps for the guests to have a beer for free. You don't see that at most places. Free Wi-Fi in the rooms but you are limited to 4GHZ per day. Look for a room elsewhere if you have to feed a YouPorn addiction. They have a laundry room but they use pay machines. Maybe that is how they pay for the beer. I guess I don't mind paying for laundry as long as I get free brewskis! read more

This place is a steal! Breakfast included, little kitchen with stove, dinnerware and some pots and pans. Plenty of towels. Clean. 2 free draft beers every night. One of the lowest pet fees. Most importantly, Very polite and friendly housekeepers (always smile and say hi when you are near)! If I had one recommendation for the owner, it would be to include the pet fee in the hotel room price, like LA Quinta does. Military pet owners might be even more inclined to stay there because then they wouldn't have to pay the separate pet fee out of pocket. This hotel is great. I came into town for a few weeks for training at Ft. Huachuca and stayed here during my time. Every afternoon/evening there is a complimentary beer with chips and salsa or some other form of snack. The breakfast setup is also good and varies daily. The rooms are clean, the hotel is quiet, and there is a kitchenette with dishes provided in each room. Fortunately, I will not be returning to Sierra Vista, but if I had to I would stay here again! read more

Update: My wife and I have returned to Gateway a few times since our review in 2016. Most recently, last month during our sojourn there, I sustained an injury during a hike in the wilderness that required emergent attention---that is a story in itself, but this is about G.S.S. The staff, in character of previous visits, ensured our stay to be comfortable and down home. The day of our departure, Justin, manager, took the time to fax several pages of my medical report to an orthopedic clinic in San Diego. That kind, considerate gesture made for a very smooth follow-up in S.D. Veronica, also in a management position, as previous stays cheerfully and professionally attended to all for our comfortable stay till I was ready for the 500 mile drive home, including cross checking with front desk staff. Yanica and Katrina: kudos to them for being so down to earth and cheerful amidst expected multiple responsibilities at the reception desk. Ernesto, jack of all trades maintenance: such a cheerful gentleman-caballero who also recommended a fine little Mexican restaurant on Fry Blvd ---where we returned the following day. I can start with when I book a hotel at this rate because of a business trip I am mentally prepared for the worst. This was a pleasant surprise. The front desk was very friendly and professional. They did a fantastic job checking me in. Then they told me about the complimentary nacho and popcorn bar and two free adult beverages. I've stayed at this hotel twice and would recommend it for consideration to anyone visiting Sierra Vista. I've found the hotel to be well maintained with a very courteous staff. The rooms are very spacious and kept up. While the property could use an update to the decor, what is in place is in good shape. They do offer all the standard amenities, with an added bonus of daily happy hour (please verify the available times and days with the hotel). They're also a pet friendly hotel, but either there aren't many travelers with pets, or the hotel does an amazing job of ensuring no lingering pet odors for those of us not traveling with furry companions. If I'm ever to return to Sierra Vista this hotel is where I'll look for accommodations first. They also have a sister property, so that would be my second choice purely based on my experiences with this property. read more

First you walk in and it's just like home. Not that super modern interior designer stuff. All original and not overpowering with air freshener. A fireplace the second you walk in and the staff is extremely helpful. Oscar was not only the desk clerk but the concierge and the server. They offer 2 complimentary drinks per room and he went above and beyond to make sure my husband and I were satisfied during our trip. We were able to watch movies and congregate with other tenants in the main lobby and it was so refreshing for a hotel. Also, they have a full homemade breakfast in the morning. Let me start by saying the staff here are, by far, the friendliest hotel staff I have ever encountered!! You are greeted pleasantly every single time you walk in! They all truly care about you & making your visit here a great one. They go above & beyond to make this happen!! I was surprised at how nice everything was at Gateway. The staff was great. The room was a suite. I could have cooked meals were I so inclined. They had a two free drink per room happy hour every evening which became a social hour too. Full breakfast was nice, although when I tried eggs and sausage they were cold...probably just my timing as an attendant was there. It didn't matter to me or I am sure that issue would have been handled. If I ever stay in SV again I will stay at Gateway again. read more

While there isn't anything to rave about, it makes a difference when you notice that employees appear to be happy, are genuine, and focused. The pool and little spa were clean.
