It's an amazing place .. rustic and all.. but the cigarette smoke is so thick you cannot taste your drinks or food through it

Holy Sh*t that's a good burger! We were passing through and so happy I found this place. I may have just ate the best burger I've ever had in my life Grace, the bartender was super sweet. I wasn't sure when I walked in to this tiny cheers like bar. The place is dark, a little smokey but you can sit back and listen to all the regulars talk. Wish I could see this on a Saturday night. I thought $10 might be a little much for a small town cafe burger but there was nothing small about the burger. It says 1/2 pound but it felt no less than 1 pound. Love at first bite. The burger came with crinkle cut fries with season salt and my hubby got okra. We finished every bite! Wish it was closer to home. read more

I've been out in this area of East Texas for a little more than 20 years now and in the last couple years, Gateway Bar and Grill has become one of those hidden gems you run across ever so often. New owner, fresh food, never frozen and GREAT cooking. Can't say enough about the food. The new owner has gone to great lengths to make sure all the food is top notch. There are too many better options in the Lake Fork area to waste your time and money here. We decided to give Gateway a try having never dined there before. First, understand that it is a bar first that serves food as an afterthought. It had been awhile since we had been somewhere where smoking is still allowed. Even after smelling the smoke, we took a table to order some food. Our waitress approached our table and immediately advised us that she was having a bad day and that we should not expect any friendly chatter from her. We looked at each other in amazement. She started taking our beverage orders with a scowl on her face that made us wonder why we were patronizing this place with our money. read more

Maybe the most meat I've ever had on a restaurant burger. Had 1/2 pound of beef patty but seemed like a pound. Had the chili cheese burger and fries and it was more than I could eat at one sitting. Would like to have had a little more chili but what I had was great and honestly could not have eaten anymore than I had. Others in the group had a regular cheese burger and a mushroom burger and everyone was totally satisfied and commented on the large potions and quality of beef. The beef was cooked to perfection and was juicy but fully cooked. The Patty's were not dry which is usually the case. Went on Thursday night, which is 1/2 price burgers and got out for $17.00 for three people including drinks and none of us really could finish all that was served. GREAT BURGERS!!!! Beware and be cautious of Gateway Bar and Grill at Lake Fork. I will state facts only about my one and only experience at the establishment. My sister in law called and reserved a large table for our group. The owner of the establishment explained to her that there will be a $10 cover charge per person for the band playing that night. However, when our friends and family arrived the owner seated us and never collected the $$ from the guests or any other patrons throughout the bar/grill. At the end of the night, I went to close my tab (one mixed drink $7.00) and he explained to me that I owe him $200.00 for the reservation that I DID NOT MAKE. He had my credit card and would not return it to me unless I agreed to pay the $200.00. I tried and tried to explain to him that I did not make the reservation, but he would not listen and hear my words. I explained that I would have my husband speak with him regarding the confusion (my husband was playing in the band and still on stage). The owner proceeded to kick me out of the establishment unless I agreed to pay for the reservation hat I DID NOT MAKE! I waited in the parking lot by my vehicle while my husband and band finished their last set. The owner proceeded to come to the parking lot and scream at me very rude comments and was so so angry because I refused to pay him the money. He was so mad he was literally foaming at the mouth while screaming at me in the parking lot. As the band was finishing up, the owner once again came out to the parking lot and told me to pay my $7.00 and get the hell of his property. I explained AGAIN that I had to wait for My husband to finish the music set and load out his gear. The owner did not accept my explanation and continued to grow more and more angry with me. A patron in the parking lot noticed what was going on and stepped in to guard me from the owners foul words, very aggressive demeanor and horrible behavior. I paid my $7.00 tab plus $4.00 tip and the bartender gave me my credit card. The band finished, I explained to the band the situation and we loaded and left asap. Never ever have I experienced such rude behavior and I can promise you that all my friends and family will never be back to Gateway Bar and Grill. read more

Attempted to try Gateway Bar and Grill last night but ended up walking out. When the waitress approached, we tried to be friendly and engaging with her and her response was "I'm too busy to have a sense of humor right now". Instead of a smile in greeting, all she could do was scowl. We left and went to Neon Moon right down the street where not only was the food delicious, but the staff provided excellent service! read more

Food was great and in good quantity! But waitress seemed to be tweaking and not very personable. She was smoking while serving us and yelling inaudible things at people across the room. Guess what I get for going to a bar for food. read more

This is a bar in the middle of nowhere but if you want a drink in the middle of nowhere, this has the place to go. Very friendly and personable bartenders, looks like a decent crowd of regulars. It's a bit smoky but not unbearable. If I didn't live so far away I'd be back more often. Maybe I'll visit again sometime. read more

We call it the stinky bar (smoking allowed) but dang the food is really good. Hands down best chopped steak around. Large portion of meat with sautéed onions , mushrooms and gravy. Real mash potatoes and green beans are good. On top of that the side salad is really good. I've had the burgers also and considered them the best around the lake. If you sit away from the bar smoke is not terrible. This place is what I would call a dive bar but the food is worth going in for. read more

Well, I came here to watch the mayweather vs mcgregor fight because it was advertised to be the main venue tonight. First, drinks are watered down and second, the owner decided that his 4 buddies was going to control the big TV in the biggest area and make all of the patrons watch a preseason football game instead of the fight. Not only was my party upset, but all the others that came to watch the fight were upset. Will stand at the Bar and try to watch the fight with the others while 4 old men watch football. I moved to this area about three months ago. I went into this place in 8 several times actually I went everyday the last time I was there I had bugs in my food. I showed this to the waitress. I asked for a glass of water when she brought me my water there were worms in my water. It was unbelievable. When I went to leave she demanded that I pay for the food that I could not eat. I couldn't believe I was being forced toupee for food they had live bugs crawling around in it. If there was a way to shut this place down I would. I'm a 66 year old man and I've never been so appalled in all my life. read more
