I was driving on the freeway and a pebble hit my front windshield causing a pretty nasty crack. This was my first time dealing with this issue for my Tesla, so I was not sure where to even start with getting this fixed. I had a feeling that Tesla service center might take some time, so I looked on Yelp. Would strongly recommend going elsewhere for your auto glass needs if your car has any type of rain/collision sensor. Jason confidently quoted a price ~30% cheaper than I was able to find from other shops - citing that his techs were skilled enough to not require post repair calibration. Both systems were non-functional post repair and Jason went radio silent when I requested a tech to return and fully resolve the issue. After waiting over a month to get on their schedule, the first tech simply didn't show up at the appointment time and would take more than a week to reschedule. After finally getting the tech out to reassess the sensors, the tech determined it indeed needs calibration. I was told that Jason was aware of this and I should be receiving another call to schedule this service. It has been roughly 2 weeks since this appointment and I have not heard anything. The smaller crack on the right lower windshield of my Subaru stayed the same size for 5 years or so. But after a trip to Mammoth, the cold expanded the crack across the midline. I noticed it driving back to N Ca on Tue afternoon. I called Gateway after seeing their good reviews in our area. Jason answered, asked detailed questions about the type of windshield, and set up an appt for the very next morning at 7:30am so it would be finished in time for me to drive the car to work! Jose came right on time at 7:30am. He was very friendly, answered questions, and finished promptly. He also answered my husband's questions about the crack on his car's windshield and what a replacement would involve. Later, my insurance agent told me I could submit the receipt to the insurance after the fact. I called Gateway on Friday (today) at 5:40pm, to ask for a receipt. Shortly after the windshield replacement (with rain sensor and auto-dimming rearview mirror presumably kept in place), my car began experiencing trouble starting. I put a voltmeter on my battery after recharging it and noted that the voltage would drain from 14V to below 12V. I disconnected the mirror and rain sensor electrical connectors and found that the battery was no longer draining and would keep the charge. I suspect that my rain sensor and/or mirror were swapped out for faulty products during the windshield replacement. If anyone experiences similar events, this would further confirm my suspicions. In order to avoid this in the future, I would recommend marking these parts before the work commences to detect swapped parts. If there is some way for Gateway Auto Glass to remove the suspicions (ie. marking the parts before removing them and showing the marks to the customer before and after work) that would be greatly appreciated. read more
