Absolutely disgusting dust, anima fur, debris...
Cena T.

big scam appliances are not replaced between old and new movers. Even when the appliances are disgusting I have spoken with the management and tried to come to a resolution the management team is the worst I have ever spoken. You guys provide TRASH apartments and falsely advertise by only showing the "model" apartments to charge luxury prices.

The guy who lived above us was murdered in the apartment under us last night. This is the second serious violent crime me and my brother have seen since moving here about a month ago. Needless to say we tried to get out of our lease, however, the management at Gateway denied our request. They have yet to move us into a different apartment, a blatant disregard for the safety and well being of their tenants. I highly suggest looking into any and all other options out there.

Trash is everywhere and outside stinks.

When I first moved in June 2021 everything was ok. Management would try their best to help and respond quick as they can. As time went on it became worse and they would stop responding to requests you put in or anything. Now recently they have a new management and is ran by a younger group. They do a very poor job in communication and responsibility on their end. They never have answers to questions you need and just tell you to fill out a form to get anything you need fixed and then you just have to wait. They don't answer the phone either once they know you live there. Lastly we had to leave to see and smell this...

They never changed air filters Hella roaches Moldy And the front office people are rude af

Absolutely the worst place to stay in Tempe, you could not pay me to live there. It's a sess pool. They don't care ab there tenants and only care about getting paid. I'd rather live in a homeless shelter then pay to live at gateway . If your looking to sign a lease there, I'd double think that. Your better off living in your car. Don't bother talking to the front office lady's they're as rude as they come.

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Living here for the past year has been the worst experience I have ever had. Not only have I been living with small cockroaches for 10 weeks, but management and staff do VERY LITTLE to approach the problem. The one time Burns did come out to gas my apartment, they told me that they are also gassing the upstairs apartment because they have the same problem. The manager looked confused when I told her that like she had no idea what was going on. All appliances are 10+ years old, and everything is constantly breaking. When asked if they can cover my last month of my lease, they said they don't do "lease breaks" for pest control. How about this gateway, let's put roaches in your houses and see how you react. DO NOT LIVE HERE. DO NOT LIVE HERE. DO NOT LIVE HERE. You'll have less problems on the street. Update: "Community Manager" posted below that someone will be in contact with me soon. Week later, still no contact and no resolution. Doesn't matter how high up the chain you go, obviously won't get better!

I found it very unhuman that I have not received my security deposit till this day after finishing my lease that ended July 2020. I left my apartment in a way better condition than I had it. On top of that, I have lost a lot of money living there, my car got broken into also got damaged and my motorcycle almost got stolen. I have contacted the leasing office every month ever since. Every time I ask about my security deposit which was around 800$ I am told something different. They had an excuse every time I call. I paid all my bills on time did not miss a month. Left my bedroom in greater condition. Is it because the review I made that exposed the situation I encountered while living at the property.

Like a mile from ASU Tempe Campus so it's super convenient and i like that it's not a big tower! it makes living here a lot quieter than some places on Apache. pretty cheap too and they're starting to make improvements on the property ever since the management changed

Roach infested light

I would not recommend this apartment complex to my worst enemy. We have been living in a roach infested unit for the past 6 months. We kill on average about 5-10 bugs every night. Management did absolutely nothing when we confronted them about the issue. An exterminator was eventually sent out who spent probably less than 30 seconds "spraying" our apartment. The issue was still not resolved. We took matters into our own hands and bombed the apartment. This is not how it should have been handled. I am extremely disappointed with the quality of living here and would strongly advi against anyone looking to sign a lease. I would give this place zero stars if I could. Update: Gateway sent out an announcement at the beginning of the Coronavirus Pandemic saying they would wave late fees as needed. However, they turned down my request for an extension of 3 days to pay rent without late fees. During a PANDEMIC. I truly believe they saw this review which lead them to act petty like this.

Your…read moremovers lost a mirror & claim security cameras show the mirror on the elevator, ok then where did it go after that? The fact there is no way to contact anyone at this property is ridiculous. I've left messages as well, no call back. She asked several times to move in early because her previous lease ended and she had a 2 week gap in housing. University House told her there was a waitlist, ultimately she was not allowed to move-in until August 14th. Yet apparently, her rent was due August 1st , so she arrived on her actual move-in date already owing a $40 late fee that she had to pay before receiving her keys. How do you charge someone a late fee on an apartment you haven't even allowed them to move into yet? If University House is going to require rent before a resident is permitted to take possession, that needs to be made exceptionally clear. Finding out you're already "late" before you've even moved in is ridiculous. Especially considering these are college students! More concerning was what happened when my daughter questioned the fee. She spoke with Deja, who told her she wasn't going to keep explaining the same thing. My daughter asked to speak with a manager. Deja told her that SHE was the manager and that there was no one above her to speak with. At move-in, my daughter learned that Deja is actually the assistant manager and "Mitchell" is the property manager. So why was she told there was no one above Deja when that was not true? And where is the accountability for that? This is student housing. Parents are trusting this office with young adults who may need management's help with issues far more serious than a $40 fee. If a resident ask to escalate a concern, they should not be misled about who is in charge. Nor should they be intimidated & undermined. After reading the other reviews, I see that complaints about management, communication and unanswered phones are not new. That makes this experience even more concerning because what are y'all doing about it? Do you even care? I want the $40 late fee refunded, but more importantly, I would like management to address why my daughter was given false information when she specifically asked to speak with someone above the person handling her complaint. I'll be sending an email as well.

Besides their commitment to meeting the highest of health and safety standards, their team members continuously strive to provide each of their residents an exceptional experience at each point of contact. Among the lovely staff, the resident services manager Dodge Pruitt always went above and beyond to ensure my concerns were promptly addressed whenever I experienced any issue. (if Dodge ever reads this, sorry for sending so many e-mails haha). It is in a great location, too -- shares space with convenience stores, and is walking distance to many gastro-pubs and public transportation. It doesn't stop there! They even have fun events and activities to partake in like brunch during finals week. There are so many opportunities to meet neighbors. What a dream of a place. I can't say enough. Overall, the apartments offer a flawless blend of affordability and quality so you can experience living in Tempe to the fullest.

They are expecting a lot of people moving in on the same daty, but they could've handle it better. Did request for maintenance for the above issues, it took them 2-3 weeks to get everything repaired. Few days later, big storm came, power was down the whole apartment, no power, no AC, no internet, no one came to repair. I have to stay awake with nothing is functioning. All of my friend live on the same road did not have the same situation. Fast forward to when I'm trying to move out. The leasing office requires me to find a person to take over the lease, also charge me $650 for lease transfer fee. I have been tortured by the situation above for so long, I am continuously talking to the mental health support that all the above situation is causing serious mental problem that I cannot focus on study and I can't stand it anymore. The advice from my mental health support told me to move-out. So then I returned the key and moved-out. They charge me an additional month of rent and the transfer fee which deducts the 1.5 month installment that I prepaid when signing the lease contract. Absolutely not recommending this apartment if anyone wants to live here. The connection between the staff is the worst. The respons from them took years. No one seems to be working during hours. They put fake photos on the website. Really a big scam.

There were fruit flies in the hallway, which seemed tied to the trash chute not being properly maintained. The building also often had strange odors that made common areas unpleasant. Maintenance response times were frustratingly slow. Several issues took far longer to fix than they reasonably should have, and communication wasn't great when things were reported. Hot water was also inconsistent, sometimes going out for a week or two each month, which made living here really inconvenient. The gym is very underwhelming and not well maintained. On top of that, I was moved here after being kicked out of GLV for a semester due to ASU housing placement, which made the experience even more frustrating. Overall, this place did not meet basic expectations for student housing in terms of upkeep, comfort, or responsiveness.

My roommate and I had a 3 bedroom but for the first year and a half there was no 3rd roommate. We were given a smaller fridge by the first owners cuz when we moved in ours was broken. They promised that they would get us a bigger one and if we didn't get it right away then for sure it would be supplied by the time we got another roommate. We get a new roommate and we ask for the bigger fridge- they promptly tell us no and tell the new roommate that we are lying and they never promised that. I have email proof but they ignored it. And we decided not worth a fight. Then we get to the fact of me moving out. I moved out early cuz I had a two day drive. I asked them how to submit keys when I'm leaving at 5am and they don't open until 10. There isn't a drop box for us there isn't anyone there to call. So what do I do? They tell me to leave it with my roommate. I leave on Thursday before move out she turns them in Saturday before move out. I get a statement about my deposit refund and they deducted money for keys, utilities, and pet rent. 1) why the keys if they were turned in? 2) how did they get my address in a state I didn't give them? 3) why am I paying these rental charges when I paid the months rent before I left? I cal to ask and am quickly met with annoyance and rudeness from management. Mind you- I hate confrontation and was very sweet and kind simply saying I wanted to understand the charges. When I say my roommate turned in the keys, they say no, they never received them. I'm like okay then where did they go? And then when I ask how did they get the address when I didn't give it to them, they said they'd call me back. They call back to say they found the packet and I was charged for keys cuz the keys were turned in late. I was like ummmm probably not cuz my roommate turned them in Saturday BEFORE move out like I checked with her. But whatever. So then I say ok what about the rental charges, they say oh everyone has that but you're not charged for it. It's a misprint, your charged for just the keys. I ask to clarify that I'm being charged nearly $100 for just keys not rental also cuz the statement says keys cost $12 and the manager YELLS at me and says that $100 is how much keys cost. Woah. Ok I never raised my voice. All I asked for was clarification. Way to be professional. He then hung up after I said oh ok just clarifying. I didn't even get to finish saying thank you (cuz I'm polite) before he slammed the phone down. Needless to say, you will have a mediocre experience while living there but once you leave they don't treat you well and are rude and disrespectful. I wouldn't wish this life on anyone.
