Good Maintenance Staff, but Terrible Management and Poorly Maintained Common Areas
I lived at Station 16 for approximately 15 months, and unfortunately, my overall experience was extremely disappointing. Between unreliable amenities, unsanitary common areas, prolonged repairs, questionable billing practices, and consistently poor management, I would not recommend living here.
Unreliable amenities and delayed repairs
The elevator was out of service for significant periods, and the parking stackers seemed to be broken constantly. Fortunately, I had a ground-floor parking space, but residents relying on the stackers weren't so lucky.
Repairs inside my apartment sometimes took months. One water intrusion incident disrupted my living space for more than 8 a weeks, involving noisy drying equipment and ongoing repair work. Although I eventually received a rent credit, obtaining it was like pulling teeth. Management made an already frustrating situation unnecessarily difficult.
Disgusting common areas and inconsiderate residents
The trash and recycling rooms were frequently overflowing. Residents routinely left garbage piled up and failed to break down cardboard boxes, creating unsightly and unsanitary conditions.
People also dragged leaking trash bags through the hallways, leaving stains and dirty trails. These areas never seemed to be thoroughly cleaned, and some hallway surfaces appeared to need replacement.
Pet waste was another recurring issue. Too many residents failed to clean up after their dogs. Thankfully, someone helped maintain the pet areas, but nobody should have to pick up after irresponsible pet owners. It's disgusting and reflects a lack of consideration for neighbors.
While residents are responsible for their behavior, management should be maintaining sanitary common areas and enforcing basic community standards.
Mailroom problems
Packages sometimes went missing, and management's handling of deliveries was inconsistent. Sometimes they took possession of packages, sometimes they didn't. The lack of a reliable process created unnecessary confusion and frustration.
Questionable billing and predatory-feeling practices
Administrative issues were a constant frustration. Billing discrepancies required repeated follow-ups, and getting management to acknowledge or correct problems was unnecessarily difficult.
The move-out process was especially disappointing. Despite leaving my apartment in very good condition and documenting it extensively with photographs and video, I was assessed approximately $475 in cleaning, painting, and carpet-related charges. These included $235 for cleaning, $169.74 for painting, and $70 for alleged carpet damage. Management had previously indicated that repainting was standard between tenants, making that deduction particularly questionable.
I also encountered occupancy-related charges posted beyond my move-out date, requiring additional correspondence to request corrections. At the time of this review, I am still seeking supporting documentation and a proper reconciliation of the disputed charges.
These experiences left me feeling that management's practices were often predatory, with an emphasis on imposing charges while placing the burden on residents to identify errors, demand explanations, and pursue corrections.
The one positive: Maintenance staff
The maintenance staff and people performing the actual work around the building were genuinely helpful, professional, and hardworking. They deserve recognition and should not be confused with the administrative management team.
Unfortunately, my experience with the administrative staff was overwhelmingly negative. Communication was poor, follow-through was inconsistent, and accountability was lacking. Getting even straightforward matters resolved often required excessive persistence.
Overall
Station 16 could be a good property with competent management, but unreliable amenities, dirty common areas, inconsiderate residents, and poor administrative practices undermine the experience.
For the rent being charged, residents should expect functioning amenities, timely repairs, clean common areas, transparent billing, and responsive management. Station 16 consistently fell short.
My advice to prospective residents: Document everything, monitor your billing statements, keep all correspondence, and be prepared to advocate for yourself.
