We spent two weeks in the German and Austrian Alps, and my family and I agree that the Eibsee-Alm…read morewas the best restaurant we visited. To be clear, we stayed with German friends for a week, so we went to great local restaurants and didn't do only touristy restaurants. This one could be considered a little touristy for the fact that it's close to the very popular Eibsee (an unbelievably beautiful alpine lake with crystal-clear teal water). However, it's a little hidden and up the hill, so it wasn't nearly as busy as the more touristy restaurant that's located right on the lake. The view of the mountains and meadows was beautiful, and the food was outstanding. I had the Schweinebraten with potato dumplings. It was the best one I had on the whole trip (I had this dish about 7 or 8 times during our vacation). The crackling was perfectly crispy, the beer sauce flavorful, and the dumplings were just how I like them - stretchy. My wife had the Wiener schnitzel and agreed it was one of the best of the trip. My son had a Weiss wurst, and again, one of the best. To top it off, we finished with an Apple strudel that disappeared in a flash. Finally, the service was great. The waiter had a fun personality and really engaged our son. That was the icing on the cake that made this our favorite restaurant (of many great ones).

The exterior was beautiful and welcoming. I opted to sit outside since it was a nice day, but their inside was very cozy with dark wood and traditional elements. The front patio area was peaceful, shaded and breezy. Plentiful seating. Location is a little outside the main part of town so I drove and parked around the corner. FOOD: Solid, hearty meal. I went for the ribs and throughly enjoyed myself. Really no complaints. SERVICE: Quick and friendly service. It wasn't too busy while I was here so the waiter spent a good amount of time just chatting with me about my trip and things to do in the area. Overall just a great meal in a beautiful location.

We are travelling from America and while travelling abroad, as we often do, do our best to speak the language and adjust to customs. My German is actually not bad at all, which came in handy tonight because our waitress claimed to speak no English. Our waitress judged us as Americans right away, she hardly ever came by the table and did the bare minimum to get our drinks and dinner. When all of our beer, wine and food was done we waited 30 minutes as she obviously ignored us before finally getting her attention and asking for our bill. Then after another 15 minutes waiting for the bill as she did everything else she could think of I finally had to get up and track her down clearing a table and embarrassingly ask her if we could please have our bill and pay for it. Everyone in the restaurant looked at me like I was crazy, but I'm sure they would have done what I did if they had sat with no food or drink for 45 minutes. Sadly this experience really ruined my true love for Bavaria. We are not loud Americans, we travel often, and rarely are juged like we were tonight.

The server was annoyed that we wanted to sit down and was even more annoyed when we wanted to order food. The food was terrible, I think the health department needs to check this place out. I have never in my whole life had such bad German food. The red cabbage was black around the edges, the "Pfifferlinge" mushrooms tasted like they had gone bad, like motor oil. The spätzle were terrible, dried out and weird tasting. The dressing for the salad was some cheap store bought dressing. Seriously, if you are in Garmisch and want German food , do not eat here! There is a much better restaurant just 50 feet from this one.
