It's a great traditional Bavarian hof serving great food and serving local brew from Mittenwald Brewery operating since 1808.
We originally sat down on the outside table under an umbrella, but some dark clouds moved in and it was threatening with thunderstorm. After our drinks were served and waiting for our food to arrive from the kitchen, we decided to get inside to the restaurant seating...I'm so glad we did since it started to storm a few minutes later. Inside was very large decorated with very typical Bavarian hunting motif. It must've seated about 200 for family celebration and other occasions.
Food was fantastic. I don't know if you can tell from my photos, but serving size was very generous for money. Schnitzel was perfectly seasoned and huge--one of the largest I ever had in all of my exploits in Germany, Austria, etc... Pork knuckle was also well-seasoned and good. It's not really a tremendously meaty dish (looks could be deceiving), but it was very good.
Service was also excellent. Our server was very efficient and took care of us very well. If I could be a little critical...perhaps she could've used a little more friendliness.
It was altogether lovely dining experience at this traditional Bavarian inn enjoying our late lunch after our hike to Leutasch-Klamm (gorge) in the morning. read more
