The counter staff, the female African American "manager" in particular, is VERY RUDE, and an obvious bigot. Quite simply, she is just NASTY to everyone, but her extreme level of disdain is reserved for white customers. Shop elsewhere if you can. There is a reason this Station/Wendy's/Store, with literally no competitors, is likely not very profitable for it's owners. After all, you make a little margin on gasoline sales. Most profit comes from food and even more from retail. With this "manager" no one really wants to shop here. Empty at "lunchtime", the two trucks were initially gas customers. On a positive note the cleaning/pump station maintenance man is as pleasant/friendly as the manager is rude.

That being said, it is a very convenient location for me. This store has a very convenient location on St. Charles Avenue, right before the intersection with Louisiana Ave. Gas prices are usually competitive with the area & a few cents under. Getting gas & occasionally picking up a few things is why I use this spot. Now, I'll be honest it is not the cleanest place. Most of the times I've stopped in since the pandemic started, the employees have been wearing masks except once. Then again, the point of stopping at a convenience store is to make a quick stop, so I got out fast. Still, I hope they reinforce the wearing of masks by employees. Especially since it is a city ordinance.

Same thing-- after I stopped pumping, the machine kept adding up charges for invisible gas. So much for that "calibration" the clerk kept insisting on. Pepsi & Ruffles - Woo-hoo!…read more SITREP I couldn't ask for more from the Exxon Mini-Mart across the street from Hotel Modern that has got the munchies and beverages I like for cheap! THE SETUP I am not a big fan of hotel temptations & their placement of expensive LITTLE bottles of alcohol & cans of soda in my hotel fridge. Nor the clever product place of little bags of chips and chex mix for $3 in drawers next to my FREAKIN BED! So the way I HAVE to combat this during my stay here is get inexpensive munchie and beverage options to COMBAT temptation in my own room. MUNCHIES GALORE They had all sorts of cool stuff, but I settle on a big bag of ruffles for $4. The BEST deals here, however, were on my Diet Pepsi - I got 3 2LTR bottles for only $4 as well! Will I be able to finish them over the 4 day-stay? MAYBE. But that wasn't the point. Compare that to the little cans of soda and bottles of tea in hotels and other hotel stores ranging upward to $2-$3 themselves. So I'm ready for when I'm thirsty, and for when I get a mid-night attack for something crunchy and salty. And it won't cost me an arm and a leg in room service charges. THE LOWDOWN Props to Exxon 5-1901 for having my crap, at great prices, for when I need it! [P.S. On the Yelp survey question below that asks about "Parking", I'm checking the box that says, "Valet"] ;)

Because it is one of the few stations in the area, and it is conveniently located. I guess there isn't much else to say, but what good would a two sentence review be? There is a small convenience store attached to this station. It has the typical items, but the real reason I come is to get gas. I've found it easiest to enter this station when traveling down Magazine in an Uptown direction, but entering from Jackson works well too. If you're in the area and need gas, check out this Shell.

In my last year and a half of nonstop travel, I have continually sought out convenience stores and…read moreespecially their cashiers or clerks - because I used to be one myself and because I think they are among the most unsung and underpaid essential workers in our society. In that great search for the perfect convenience store and the greatest cashier, Adel - a 30ish, bearded, Middle Eastern-looking guy who cashiers at this store - is perhaps the coolest and most memorable character I have encountered. He is so laid-back and so quintessentially himself that I assumed, at first, that his supremely flowing presence had to be chemically assisted. Talking to him, you think you have just walked into a Cheech and Chong movie or the great Clerks movie. But when I very playfully mimicked his singing way of speech and his rhythmic way of moving his body as he talked - to ask him if he maybe was just a little bit high - he responded "No" with such calm, happy authority that I now believe him. I think he has just so totally surrendered to being his own quirky self that he doesn't talk like anybody I have ever encountered who was straight. Because he looked Middle Eastern to me and because so many cashiers in these stores are Middle Eastern, I probed for his ethnicity. "Where were you born, Adel? Were you maybe born in India?" In reply, he said the simple word "No" as if he had just delivered me a very important password. "So were you maybe born in Pakistan?" He gave me a big wink and a look of great happiness as he simply said, "No." "Were you born on this planet?" He looked like he was handing me a big yellow rose as he happily exclaimed, "Yes." "Well where on this planet were you born?" "NewYork." It was clear that I was not going to get any information about his ethnicity. Maybe he doesn't have any. Maybe he is simply Adel and nothing else. He clearly defies categorization. I returned to the store today, mostly because I wanted to see Adel again. I bet lots of people go into that store to have these magical encounters with him. He did not disappoint. If his state of consciousness was altered yesterday, it was altered in exactly the same way today. I'm pretty sure blood tests would show him clean. He's just one of the most delightfully odd guys I have ever met. I love him!

If you are travelling to or from New Orleans on I-10, this is a good place to get gas and snacks…read more I am a dude who likes to drive. Last year I estimate that I drove around 45,000 miles total in my work and personal cars. That means that I stop for gas a lot. These frequent stops mean that I get to experience all the good and bad stations and share those experiences with you. So hooray for that. This station is located off of the Oak Harbor exit from I-10. It is much easier to get to if you're headed from New Orleans. Entering is relatively easy, and there are pumps a plenty. Getting back on the interstate is also easy. In fact, This is probably the best exit to take if you need gas. All nearby exits are a pain in the hindquarters. Inside there is a Subway and a fairly well stocked convenience store. It's clean and the cashiers are friendly. There is frequently a line to check out during peak times. So all these positives but still three stars? Yep. The bathrooms here are pretty nasty. Yes they have soap and usually have towels. But everything else is all janky. The floors perpetually have a wet look that doesn't appear to come from mopping. The trash can is always full and the whole place has the feel of a bar room bathroom. Despite the bathroom jankiness, I will continue to stop here since it's super convenient.

I stopped at this Shell station primarily because I needed to use the bathroom, and I have to say,…read morethis restroom exceeded my completely imaginary expectations. From the moment I opened the door, I was greeted by an atmosphere that can only be described as "surprisingly bathroom-like." The fluorescent lighting provided a soothing glow somewhere between a hospital hallway and a supermarket freezer aisle. The sink was particularly impressive. Water came out when I turned the handle, which is exactly the sort of dependable engineering I look for in a public restroom. The paper towel dispenser also performed admirably, dispensing a paper towel after only a brief struggle. Five stars for persistence. The toilet itself appeared to be securely attached to the floor, which inspired considerable confidence. The seat was approximately the temperature I expected, and the flush produced a satisfying sound that suggested several gallons of water had been sent heroically into the plumbing system. There was also soap available, although I cannot confirm whether it was actually soap because I did not conduct laboratory testing. Still, it looked soapy, and sometimes that is enough. Overall, this bathroom delivered a memorable experience for a room whose primary purpose is to be forgotten immediately. Would I specifically drive across town to visit it again? Absolutely not. But if I happened to be at the station and nature called, I would answer.

The store has a nice selection of various snacks and drinks along with offering lottery tickets. The weird way the gas pumps are set up very tightly together frequently results in a lot of disorganization with often just one vehicle blocking two pumps.
