Reading some of Gary's negative reviews it seems that a lot of people have had similar experiences. Gary might be able to do some quality work, but I wouldn't know because he's just not professional at all. We reached out to Gary after buying a new house in Arcadia a while back and he told us that whenever we were ready he could help us with installing ceiling fans, blinds, and whatever we may need (score!) but when we called him back to schedule something he was sick and told me he would call me back in a week. A week goes by with no phone call, so I call him-- but no answer... and his vm is full. so I waited a couple more days and called him again, still no answer; so this time I followed up with a text asking if he was still interested in helping us out with our handyman needs and he replied yes and to let him know when we would like him to come help. Perfect! I called him when I got back to Phoenix and he didn't answer (of course), so I texted asking when he was available and he asked if he could schedule me in for between 1-2pm on Thursday. Yes I replied, then I texted asking him a couple questions about estimates for hanging large blinds and included photos. He ignored my texts that night about the quote/estimate altogether, so I texted asking if he received my messages requesting an estimate to which he replied "Yes, I'll look at them when I'm at your house." (Not really an answer or estimate- kind of slippery). So today rolls around and of course I'm at home waiting on this handyman to show up (of course I organized my day around him) 14 minutes before he was due for our appointment, he cancels. He says: "Can we meet Saturday 9-930? Caught up in work." (No apology for the inconvenience, or wasting my time, just a crap text). Me: "You know Gary, let me talk to my boyfriend about it. After reading your Yelp! reviews we expected a little more professionalism to be honest." He says: "Well I've been sick for the last month and been out of commission. I've been trying to catch up on my jobs. Sorry if you feel that way. I know I can't make everyone happy. Me: "It's not a feeling. You cancelled 15 minutes before you were scheduled to show up and have been unresponsive and not very communicative with me. Those are facts. While I understand it's impossible to make everybody happy, you could do a much better job by being a little more professional. Then-- radio silence. Gary, you can make customers happy; how about apologizing when you're wrong and unprofessional instead of #1: making excuses, then #2: blaming me, or acting like I'm the one with unrealistic expectations when I've accommodated the date and time YOU chose and then flaked on. Communicated with Gary via Yelp. Quoted a price and since we are not DIY people I wanted a handyman that I can have on speed dial. Gary installed 4 light fixtures for me, removing the existing ones and hanging new modern ones. He showed up on time and got right to work. Brought all his own tools and did all the work himself. Used Gary for a job and it was a hit or miss experience. I needed someone to replace three doors, sent the word out on Yelp and Gary was available and gave me a fair quote sight unseen. Gary is definitely a skilled guy, this was not an easy job. It was an old house, the sizing wasn't standard, and Gary was able to figure out how to get it done. We had some issues with the supplies (my fault or the supplier, still not sure which, but not Gary's fault) and if Gary said something was wrong or if he needed something I got it for him ASAP. The problems arose after he was done. He finished when I wasn't at the house, which was fine, I had a busy day. He texted me his payment information and the final cost which I paid immediately no questions asked. When I got to the house, one of the doors had braces on it that had a note to not remove for two days and one of the keys didn't work. Gary the Handyman responded right away to an inquiry. He fixed the light switch the next day because he says the house was on the way to his next job. Why the 2 stars? The dishonesty in pricing. I asked what he thought how long it would take for the issue to be resolved, he said something along the lines that it may take an hour or it could take longer. He says his hourly rate is $65 an hour. I agreed. He shows up and fixes the light switch under an hour. He then charges me $195. His words "Service call is $65 to do that type of work is $195." read more

Gary responded quickly to the estimate request. We had delays in receiving faucets (supply chain) and he kindly adjusted to a new install date. Arrived right on time. Asked him to start with the bathtub hardware replacement (just to make sure I'd gotten the right stuff). He jumped right in. Replace two bathtub hardware sets, five sink faucets/drains, 1 kitchen sink faucet and 2 Co2/Smoke Detectors (hardwired). Gary worked efficently. He discovered that some of our bathroom turn off valves were no longer turning. We appreciated that he brought this to our attention. No one wants to turn off water at the main valve or have an uncontrolled water issue due to a bad value under a sink. He charged the price he quoted for the install ... and then reasonable fees for the new values and plumbing under. So basically the sinks look great and are now up to date (valves were from 2003). I'd hire Gary again and recommend him. read more

Gary was friendly, responded to my messages quickly and he offered a fair price for my doggie door install. However, that is where the good ends. Upon arrival, he set forth with the project. Though he did NOT listen when I said that some trim needed to be removed to install properly. (According yo the manufacturer install directions). He said that merely screwing it in would suffice. I explained that I could have just screwed the screws in myself if that was the case. He did not install the weatherstripping. In fact, he told me I'd have to go get some tape from the hardware store myself to adhere it. It left a large gap, allowing a cold/hot air exchange. He then proceeded to tell me that it would cost $60 still....even though the job was not completed. $60 for 6 screws. Nothing more. What was supposed to be a time and energy saver, ended up costing me much more than the $60. I lost my patience....and my whole day. Thank you Gary..,.for teaching me that I should just put on my big girl pants and do the job myself. I am perfectly capable, and ended up doing a better job than you. The ONLY reason I gave you any stars is because I ended up learning something from you not doing your job. read more

I requested a quote to have a ceiling fan removed from one area of my home and installed in another that was not currently wired for it. Gary was responsive and concise in his quote, which I very much appreciated over other quotes I had received. Gary was on time for our scheduled appointment, arriving in a clean white commercial van. He advised me of his work plan for the project after looking over the area, and when I gave the go ahead, he got right to work. The AC unit in my guest space had went out overnight and it was set to be 113 the following day. I researched the best handymen in my zip code, called a few, however they would not be able to come out for a few days. This was an immediate need and I found Gary. He answered his phone, had to wrap up a few jobs and said he could be over by 10-11 that morning (This was 730am that same day). I went to Home Depot to purchase a new AC unit and selected one that did not fit the space. Gary measured, and then went with me back to Home Depot to ensure that I got the correct size. Gary was patient, and did an excellent job. Even with my mishaps he was finished within 2.5 hours and had the space cooling down before he was completely finished.
