I gave Dr. Roussopoulos 5 stars earlier because I was so pleased that my lovely cat recovered after having been given antibiotics for a simple infection; and the price was wonderful! Also, he does know how to handle animals very well in my estimate. Two years later, I took my cat in. Dr. Gary diagnosed and suggested--after several visits--she had an mostly inoperable jaw bone tumor. After awhile, I expected euthanasia because she was obviously at least unbelievably uncomfortable--and most likely in great pain. She could not eat or drink or even move much at the end. As anyone would, I geared myself up and said those difficult goodbyes to my sweetest friend before I took her in for what I thought would be the last time. Yet, he would not put her down. Of course, I know my pet's needs more intimately than any vet could possibly. Yet, that was not a consideration for Dr. Gary. Three days later, she breathed her last painful gasps because Dr. Roussopoulos refused to ease her pain. If your pet is in need of antibiotics or a simple--but not always--accurate diagnosis, I would recommend him because of cost. If your pet needs surgery, he may suggest he can do it (off-site) but seems to always recommend against it. I have yet to see were he has done any surgeries in the last several years and believe he has stopped the practice altogether. It makes me wonder about his vet license renewals. Once again, if antibiotics will solve the problem with your pet, he's your man. Anything else, seriously consider going elsewhere. read more

There should be 10 stars for Dr. Gary. I took my project purr (used to be feral cat but not anymore) to Dr. Gary when our normal vet wouldn't see him. He had a terrible bladder infection and I begged our normal vet to find time. They blew me off and suggested I could "drop him off". I called Mountain Vet on the off chance they could fit him in. Not only did they fit him in but they were going to stay late because they knew it was a desperate situation. When I got there with my cat Dr. told me that my cat could have died had I not gotten there when I did. We went home with three meds and fingers crossed he should be fine. I'm so happy I found Mountain Vet. I will not be going back to my old Vet. They clearly don't care about animals like Dr. Gary does. And for once I didn't have a $200 plus bill with a ton of unneeded tests. I had a firm diagnosis. And the lady who runs the office is incredibly nice and accommodating. I usually don't take the time to write reviews but I feel like I need to speak up to protect my community. I recently took my puppy to see Gary and expressed my serious concern about a UTI. Of course, he completely ignored my concerns (I'm currently watching my puppy strain to urinate over and over) and told me it was just puppyhood. So...now I have to make an appointment at another vet and my puppy has suffered another 2 days with a UTI. She cries and cries because of her discomfort. Additionally, while I was waiting for my appointment, a woman arrived to ask about her dog whom she suspected had a foxtail in his nose. Gary actually told this woman to wait a few days (the woman had already waited for 4 days) and that the dog would likely swallow the foxtail. It was all I could do not to intervene and tell the woman to take her dog to the emergency clinic and get the foxtail removed. I understand that Gary does a great service to the SLV with affordable vaccines and I, and others, appreciate that. However, I think it's time for Gary to clarify exactly what services he will provide. Preventive meds and vax only? Great! My suggestion to those seeking a competent vet for corrective care: look elsewhere. read more

Woah! I don't even know where to begin. I had a bit of a wait because he had an emergency case which is understandable. The staff are happy, the customers were a dream, and my Yorkie didn't bark at all. Once he was able to see us, we were greeted with warm smiles and got right to the point. He kept me at ease and within minutes I went from "omg my dog has cancer" to "ew gross, what is that?!" After we removed some waxy build up. He gave my little guy a nice check up and helped with other things. Bottom line, I would recommend this place. I felt at home and for some reason so did my dog. Fantastic Vet! He really reassures you and he doesn't do unnecessary things to your animal. My cat has become really adverse to the thermometer as he has had it inserted at every single vet visit in his life, so it was lovely that Gary did not do that as he really didn't need it done. He also doesn't charge crazy prices and recommend tests your animal doesn't need. He IS very busy (Everybody loves him up here!) and closed Wed and Weekends so if you are worried about your animal, get an emergency appointment at another vet in Santa Cruz. Don't wait around for your appointment as it will be most likely be about a week after you call. I really recommend him. He is gentle yet firm with the animals so they don't feel too scared. read more

I went to Dr Gary for the first time ever today and I am very glad I found him! He is a great no-nonsense old school country vet. Our little dog was attacked by a wild animal and the wounds got infected. Dr Gary was able to see me (a new client) within a few hours of calling and fix my dog right up, clean out the wound and prescribe antibiotics all for under $75. I did not realize how bad my dog was and if I had to wait a day or so, it might have been too late, so I was very lucky to be seen by Dr Gary so fast.I usually go to another vet in town, but I will be switching to Dr Gary for all my animal's needs as he is really great (and affordable). I walked out of Gary's bus extremely upset and disappointed to meet a vet with such little care and compassion for the comfort of my pup. Their words came with a hostile, screaming tone that felt demoralizing and traumatizing. This experience not only felt upsetting personally, but my poor pup screamed out in agony as Gary attempted a barbaric treatment from what seemed the 1950's. Not only was I not able to get my pup's chronic wound healed, but I felt like I put my pup's health in danger by seeking advice and support from Gary. Their scheduling bit is atrocious as I was scheduled at 1:15, between a 1 and 1:30 appointment as if it is possible to provide information, answer questions, and dispense a treatment plan for any pet. It felt like any other low cost machine to push people in and out. Where is the compassion? Where is the quality care? read more

This place is AMAZING. Just had my first experience with Dr Roussopoulos and I am officially hooked. He works out of a bus and is located within the nursery grounds (near the olive trees). This veterinarian is knowledgeable, helpful and affordable! His clinic is not exactly state of the art, but his caring service is priceless. Today I brought my kitty in for an eye infection and within minutes, he pulled a 1.5 inch fox tail out of her eye, cleaned the area and gave us the medicine she needs. How awesome to see all the 5 star reviews for Dr. Gary! Took my dog in for a very painful infected, broken toenail. The nail had pieces broken off and splayed out in different directions. Our 100lb lab won't let us get anywhere near his feet on a good day, let alone a hurt one. No muzzle. No restraint. No violent wrestling to pin him down. Dr. Gary simply made friends with him, and quickly trimmed the pieces away. He let Beau smell and lick the pieces and sniff his hands after each piece was removed. I was amazed. I was prepared in workout gear and a protein shake for a full on CrossFit style workout and was pleasantly disappointed! I love the fact that he works out of an old bus. It allows him to have no overhead and no staff and he can do so much there that would cost an absolute fortune in a conventional vet office. He's saved me so much money over the years. Sometimes, the tendency is to hesitate going to the vet because of the crazy cost. With Mt. I agree with many review writers about Dr Gary. If there were a choice of 10 stars I would have given him all 10 and then some!. After taking our cat to two other vets (Boulder Creek and Felton), he figured out right off what was wrong. He diagnosed an obvious abscess on his chin and proceeded to drain it on the spot. Our cat was back feeling his usual self within 4 days. All told with medicine was $60! The other two clinics wanted to do teeth cleaning, anesthesia, and even x-rays! Hundreds of dollars - Unbelievable! We cannot thank Dr. Gary enough. We now call him in our house "the cat whisperer" for his gentleness and caring. We hope this review will help anyone in search of a good vet and avoid those clinics with their huge overhead that only think of $$$ instead of the well-being of our pets. read more

I just drove up from Santa Cruz to have Gary check on a tumor that my Golden Retriever has between his shoulders. We had already taken Skip to a vet in town who did a battery of tests costing us several hundred and told us that he needed all his teeth pulled and tried to get us to commit to an expensive pet insurance plan that wouldn't pay for much. I had to weigh the thousands that the surgery would cost against the fact that Skip is elderly and it is not going to prolong his life. Gary checked his teeth and said they needed a cleaning, but he still needed them. He chipped some plaque off and told us the teeth should stay, but the tumor might eventually have to go. Gary is going to do the surgery when the time comes. My dog Skip is usually traumatized by vet visits, but coming to Gary is like seeing an old friend. Decades ago,Gary made house calls. I first met him when was my mom's animal's vet . The only way that she was able to have her pets seen was by Gary because she was paralyzed and he came to her. He kept her beloved pets healthy and when it was time for them to go, he helped them, and her through that. Gary is very down-home. He works out of an RV in a plant nursery. If you expect a sterile, hospital environment, then he is probably not the vet for you. He doesn't do a lot of tests, He doesn't prescribe toxic flea medications. If that is what you are used to, and expect, then he might not be the vet for you. He is the right vet for me and my pets though, and I will keep coming to him as long as he has his doors open. I fear that when he finally retires, there will not ever be anotherlike him. read more

Dr Gary Roussopoulos is a great vet. Not only does he treat animals very well, but he is the kind of vet who won't make you spend hundreds of dollars if you don't need it. But if he cannot do anything for your pet, he will tell you to take him/her to another clinic who has the equipment. Dr Gary receives his patients in an rv in Ben Lomond (on the property of the Ben Lomond feed store, who is owned by his son, great place for getting good quality food for your pets, and they have a big selection of plants and garden stuff, plus the staff is very very nice), so don't expect top notch facility, but the prices are affordable (where else can you get an exam for 25 $ ?), and again he is extremely knowleadgable. I totally trust him with my pets. read more

There will be those who just want to part with heavy loads of money... If you are a person with bottomless pockets and an aversion to anything of an alternate solution to things medical, move along. However, if you just want a truthful veterinarian who will do everything within reason to help out, you have found him. Our animals love the man, and after having dealt with most larger vet clinics in the county, I count myself lucky to have experienced Dr. Gary in person. Yes, you will wait. Yes, he runs his clinic out of a bus. Yes, your visit will include shopping in a hardware store, and possibly buying garden plants while you wait. My last visit was for removal of a golf-ball sized cyst from my dog's back that had opened. Dr. Gary took the dog to his home clinic overnight, returned him the next morning in perfect shape and it cost less than the tests another vet ran just to diagnose the problem. I hold Dr. Gary Roussopoulos in the highest regard. Update - 4/23/2018 - We took the cat in to see Dr. Gary, she has a large mass on her neck - it looks bad. The Vet looked her over, told us it is a skin tag that got out of hand. He told us it will calm down in time, if the cat was going in for any other surgery we could have it removed, otherwise it would not be a good thing to operate, it could get infected or just be an enormous irritant to our kitty. We asked "how much?" when we were leaving, he waved us off and said "no charge". We were ready for him this time and threw down a $20 on the counter. He followed us and thanked us profusely! Our family has been taking our dog to Gary for 13 year. Our dog is a medium build poodle mutt who is vastly worried about vets, but this man works magic with him, gently and firmly. He has always provided reasonably priced assistance, timely reminders for vaccinations, and accurate, reassuring diagnosis. Most recently, as opposed to other vet's diagnoses, he suggested a tick borne pathogen was causing very bad symptoms; other vets suggested he had cancer, etc. The treatment Gary suggested worked! There are not enough stars to give Dr. Gary. He truly cares about animals. I had a very sick cat named Lenny. After the third batch of antibiotics, he was back to normal. He was a small kitten then. When I took Lenny in there was a little girl there who wanted to pet him because he was purring so much she wanted him. Dr. Gary didn't check Lenny yet but when he heard the little girl complain that her cat doesn't do that. Dr. Gary took Lenny out for me (I'm in a wheelchair) he told her as he was holding Lenny as if it was his cat and told her Lenny is special he may not live too long. She petted him and she started to giggle Lenny was purring so loud and then kissed her right on the nose. She ran to her mother and told her I had a special cat. He has helped all my furry friends and you can tell the animals love him as much as the humans. read more

Amazing vet he knows his stuff. It gets better he is very fair even cheap when it comes to pricing. My cat had an abscess I took him to a vet in a pet store they told me he needed 600.00 X-rays if I didn't get them he might have to be put down. I was u sure so I saw the mountain vet driving over 100miles. Sure enough, just an abscess free antibiotic forty bucks my cat was perfect in days. Thank god I only paid the other vet 200.00 for seeing my cat and sedating him. Banfield Pet hospital total rip off they would have put my kitty down for no reason. It took 3 visits and 3 antibiotics. He tried to break the news that Lenny was going to be an angel if this medicine didn't work. Lenny was a purring machine Evan though he was at the vet. This little girl wanted to pet him because she was running all over looking at all the animals. She begged me to let her pet him. Dr. Gary helped me get Lenny out and said Lenny is a special kitty.
