Being hit with an insane total I found out that if I use the single cans sitting there (in a mess) to make up a case with several flavors I get charged the single can price. Can price for a small can one flavor case is $2.37. Putting them together myself for more than one flavor it goes up to $2.79 each. I changed and chose two cases / single flavors. $4.11 extra for paying with my card. Checked with the person I was buying for and she was horrified too at their extortionate prices. Decided to return the cans - unopened cases bought two hours earlier - and they made like they were doing me a huge favor. They are not returning the card processing fee. They charged me immediately but I have to wait 3-5 business DAYS for my refund. Dr Gerrity makes $8.3 million a year and yet apparently still has to extort naive customers. Because we are blind and easy prey when it comes to our pets. The vet assistants were all very nice and polite and had ABSOLUTELY NO interest in making ANYTHING RIGHT. I sincerely recommend staying away from there.

My cat became very sick on Friday, and my normal vet is closed weekends, so I called Valley Oak Vet…read morein Scotts Valley. They were happy to make an appointment that same day, a Saturday, very shortly after I called, and they told me they didn't mind at all that I was not an existing patient, since I already have a vet I've been taking pets to for decades. The front desk person, who's name I can't remember, was extremely friendly, kind, and caring. (manager: he's the man who was working the front desk on Sat/Sun Nov 22/23, 2025.) The vet tech, Matthew, was also extremely friendly and caring, and very knowledgeable as well. He carefully explained treatment options and pricing, and helped me make informed choices. Dr. Sontag was the vet that saw my cat. At first I wasn't sure about him, Dr. Sontag wasn't super talkative, and didn't refer to my cat by his name. He did an exam, told me my cat was very sick (which obviously I knew) and wanted to do some tests. At the time, I was concerned that he didn't have much to say. But in retrospect, I think he was just super focused on figuring out what was wrong with my cat so he could come up with a treatment plan. Once the test results were back, Dr. Sontag was very thorough in talking to me about the results, diagnosis, and treatment plan. It became clear to me that he had been focused on figuring out what was making my cat so sick and helping him get well again. Dr. Sontag also checked in with me daily for the next few days to make sure my cat was improving and ask if I had additional questions. I wouldn't hesitate to have Dr. Sontag see either of my cats in the future. He's not going to be the type of vet who tells you how cute your pet is, and offers a lot of emotional support, but he will focus on finding the cause and appropriate treatment for your pets ailments, which is really what matters. As for pricing, I'm guessing other people's reviews mentioning high prices were either the prices before the new ownership, or the people have not been to any vet clinic lately. I was really surprised, the prices I was charged for exam, test, and medications, were right in line with what my usual vet charges, even though I was at Valley Oak on a weekend, and was not a regular client of theirs. I would recommend Valley Oak for people looking for a primary care vet in Scotts Valley, and for people needing to see a vet when their primary vet is closed or doesn't have any appointments available.

I've had a couple of cats in my life... Only one had had diabetic symptoms…read more I'd taken him to the vet clinic in Saratoga - I'm not gonna mention them by name. The point is, Dr. Gerrity is much more advanced, in terms of modern technology. I've had my cat - Max - for over 10 years! He's my savior! Yet, he was diagnosed with diabetes a year ago. He'd never been diabetic before. But, he was prescribed a "Vetsulin " by the clinic. The clinic is kinda far from where I live, so every trip there was a huge disturbance to Max. Then, I'd discovered Dr. Gerrity, who was within less than 1.5 miles away. She recommended that I put a blood glucose sensor on Max. Which I did. She had also prescribed a different Insulin type for him. And what do you know? After only 3 injections, Max went into remission!! It had now been nearly 3 weeks - and I didn't have to give him insulin!!! That's after over a year of him being on Vetsulin, which didn't do anything for him. So, I'd say, Dr. Gerrity knows a lot more about how to keep your pet healthy and safe. She seems like someone who GENUINELY cares about your pet! Be it a dog, a cat, or anything in between. I know I'd trust her with my own life. If she cares THAT much about my cat - absolutely, YES!!!

1 Star -- Traumatic experience, lack of post-operative care and compassion…read more I am sharing this because I truly wish I had read the warnings before trusting this clinic with my dog. On February 10, my senior dog underwent an eye enucleation performed by Dr. Evans at Soquel Animal Hospital. After having his eye surgically removed -- a major procedure -- he was sent home without antibiotics and without any pain medication. Within a few days, his surgical site became infected and began leaking. I called the hospital Monday because it was clear something was wrong. I was told Dr. Evans was on duty, but that he "did not have adequate time" to see my dog, and we were advised to go to an emergency hospital instead. What followed was heartbreaking. My dog required emergency care, additional medications, and ultimately a second corrective surgery with a specialist to repair complications from the first procedure. This meant more anesthesia, more suffering for him, and thousands of dollars in additional expense that could likely have been avoided with appropriate post-operative care and follow-up. Watching your animal suffer after you trusted a professional to help them is devastating. What has stayed with me most is the lack of humanity and accountability. Sending an animal home after major surgery without infection prevention or pain control is unacceptable. Refusing to evaluate a post-operative patient with complications is even worse. After this experience, I went back and read other reviews and found concerning patterns. I deeply regret not doing that beforehand. Please advocate strongly for your pets. Ask exactly what medications are being given, what should be sent home, and what happens if complications occur. I would never want another family to go through what we did.

People in this field go into this field because they care - more than most- and they deal with and see a lot of really hard situations on a daily basis. Every time my husband and I have been here (with at least four different pets through the last 10-15 years ranging from mild to very serious) the care and veterinary expertise has been very good.
