Dr Chen is a great and knowledgeable physician. Very thoughtful of your needs and care. We are lucky for his work. Learned he is the best in his field He took care of my wives hand surgery. I deducted a star for the rude nurses and the 4 hour wait. read more

Gary Chen, MD - Check in - Orthopedists Near Me - Los Angeles, California

I would leave zero stars if i could, i have been suffering with debilitating hand pain for months and i was sent here by my primary care, they don't answer the phone and when they do they hang up, when i managed to come in and make an appointment the place is gross and creepy and i saw someone that was clearly not dr Gary who i was supposed to see after waiting for over two hours past my appointment time. The lobby was gross and the appointment room was a nightmare with grime filth and what i can only imagine is either dry blood stains or human feces among other colors of presumably human and chemical waste- if this was a restaurant it would have been closed by health and safety yet it continues to operate. They gave me six prescriptions to pain and arthritis medicine before even seeing an mri the dr requested that i got or x ray that i have still yet to be able to get them on the phone for. Nightmare of a place from what i have now seen here and in person and i have requested my referring dr to send me to another hand surgeon because this place is scary and neglectful at best so i dont want to experience it at its worst- this place should be closed and im currently filing a complaint with my insurance and it seems like a lot of other people telling their stories here should too read more

I called again because my insurance basically told me I had to go to this doctor and I tried to explain what my situation was as I had an MRI and I was trying to arrange for this doctor to receive the results and the lady who answered just hung up on me before I could get even five words out ... what an awful, awful, awful, awful awful business. read more

Dr. Chen's wife Elle is a nightmare to interact with. She is aggressive and abusive to the staff working at the desk. I wish I did not waste my time going to Dr. Chen's office. This office is a complete mess. I wasted 4 hours of my day, had to take off work, drive one hour each way in traffic to Dr. Chen's office, got there and the waiting room had 17 people waiting. No joke. Then Dr. Chen's wife, Elle, made me wait 2 hours and 20 minutes just to tell me that I would not be seen because they didn't have the clearance yet from my insurance. Mind you, this was my second appointment. I had already been screened by his assistant. Then they made me the second appointment. Also, they do not validate, so you are spending $20 in parking each time you go. read more

Although the doctor was very nice and professional, I was disappointed with the level of customer service at this orthopedic office, particularly from the receptionist, Xochilt. During my visit, her tone came across as condescending, and I also noticed similar behavior toward other patients. It created an uncomfortable atmosphere that doesn't reflect the quality of care provided by the doctor. Front desk staff play an important role in making patients feel welcome and respected, and I hope management addresses this concern to ensure a more positive experience for everyone. read more

I started to see Dr. Chen a few months ago for a trigger finger issue and then just recently a carpal tunnel surgery. Yes, the office is busy and yes there is a long wait involved. That being said this Medical Facility does take all forms of insurance as well as Medi-cal. Those that complain about Government assisitance should re-evaluate why they are complaining. The level of care that Dr, Chen provides is excellent and his skill set is very accomplished. I have been very happy with his surgery and care and recommend his services. read more

I had a urgent referral for a serious hand injury. I called 10 different times and most of the calls were unanswered. The few instances where the call was answered by automation were dropped after going through the cues and holding for long periods. As a result I read all the reviews and came to the conclusion that the bad reviews were accurate and the other reviews were of questionable origin. I found care elsewhere. read more

Definitely a Grand Doctor and he's really worth the wait! Dr. Chen really cares about his patients and if nobody else can get the job done. EVEN with Medi-Cal the patient receives top quality care! read more

This review is solely on the front office staff. After calling and asking to make an appointment the lady who answered was clearly texting or using a chat on the computer because I heard the sounds when messages were received and sent. She had me on the phone just waiting in silence and asked the same question twice after I had already answered. So rude and unprofessional. Will definitely not be going here for care. read more

Dr Chen is great and so is his medical assistant. He helped me a ton and I would recommend him and go back to him. The front desk lady that other reviewers mentioned is awful, but I came in today and she wasn't there, replaced by someone much more pleasant! read more

This whole building was ghetto. I was solicited for private supplemental vitamins. Also, the door was left open to my room, while my case was discussed. I waited one hour after I was in the exam room. read more

You People Have Dr Chen Truely Under Rated!! He surgery on my left wrist ,a few years later surgery on my right hand . Then my left hand was busted open when I steped in when a woman was being attacked. I did a week in California Hospital Dr Chen oversaw my treatment. He is TOP OF THE LINE!! YOU ARE CHEETING YOURSELF AND OTHERS BY UNDER ESTIMATING DR CHEN. Respectfully Keith Heller . True his office is crowded and often a long waiting time. He is worth the wait read more

This office is highly unprofessional they make you sit there and wait for hours before your appointment. When calling the office the operator gives false information saying that they do except your insurance. When you get there and you have your appointment just know you'll be sitting there for an hour or two after your actual appointment time. After waiting an hour and a half for my appointment they tell me that my insurance is out of network and I have to pay upfront in order to see the doctor. Don't ever Don't ever use this office. They give you false information and then make you wait and waste all your time. And expect to be there for about two hours after your actual appointment time. I would give them a zero star rating. Don't ever use this office read more

Dr Gary Chen is great surgeon, did surgery on hand, make me to use it right away, I strongly recommend him to everyone who needs help on hand problems read more

I don't know how this place is still in operation based on my experience and that of others I've just read. This doctor and his rude, unprofessional staff that lack any basic human desire to help others (injured patients with life changing injuries, at that!) discriminate against lower income patients. If you had the misfortune to have this doctor attend to you at Killafonia please do yourself a favor and find a different specialist elsewhere! If you have Medi-Cal, apparently the profits aren't worthy of Dr. Chen's attention so his staff will give you the run around. We've called 3 different times and have received 3 different reasons why Dr. Chen can't see his patient that was hacked by a machete 1 month ago. In that month Dr. Chen/his staff have refused to see this patient even once, demanding payment for a surgery that is covered by Medi-Cal. Another reason they gave was that now Dr. Chen no longer accepts the Medi-Cal that he apparently accepted 1 month ago. It seems to me Dr. Chen is in this practice for the money and that's very sad for him since he works a stone's throw from Skid Row and his patients probably don't have enough money to be worthy of his time. Unless you're loaded, just save yourself all the trouble and find a doctor that actually cares about your health. PS I haven't even gotten into the actual conditions in the waiting area. These people are so money hungry they won't even provide you a mask to wait in the over crowded waiting room the over fill with patients. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Gary Chen, for your orthopedic surgery. I had arthritis in my left thumb and wrist. I had a bone removed in my wrist and have had no pain ever since the surgery. My experience at Dr. Chen's office was a worst experience I've ever had at any medical place. It started in the front desk with the rudest most callous receptionist ever the hurdles. I experience just to make a simple appointment the constant hangups put on hold directed to voicemail that don't even work. Was rude rude disrespectful the wait time ridiculously four hours on average unacceptable simple this is my worst experience for the whole year and for a person who suffers anxiety. This was my nightmare, being intimidated by the receptionist to discourage me not to ask a simple question as how much longer with a vicious response just wait. I appreciate government assistance because I need it to be treated as a lower class citizen because of it is sad My experience is so bad that I canceled my surgery and I spoke with my primary to redirect me anywhere but there I did file a complaint and I hope it produces a great response read more

Be prepared to wait 2-3 hours past the time of your appointment to actually have your appointment. This is, by a wide margin, the worst-run medical office I have ever visited. I appreciate that they are understaffed, but I would imagine one reason is the office is so badly run they can't keep medical staff. In three visits: : I waited two hours past appt time : I showed up for a confirmed (they sent me a text) appt at 8:30 am. They didn't open the office till 9:15 to tell me the doctor does not even come that day. Not even an apology. : That appointment got rescheduled. 2 hours past the appointment time, I was still 3 patients ahead of me. and I had to leave to walk my dogs. I am never going back. You should not go either. read more

I would give zero stars if I could absolute worst experience I've ever had in my life in the medical field maybe not Gary Chen the surgeon himself but his office is the absolute epitome of how an office should be ran. every single one of the people in there are rude foul they do not care about anyone but themselves or even let alone know what they are doing in there. Sad there's always an excuse or a problem for anything that I have asked or someone's not there. To the girl upfront soji I hope you rot read more

Horrible office! I do not recommend at all. I've worked in the medical field and never in my life have experienced horrible customer service. I wish there was an option for 0 stars because thats what this place deserves. Staff is so rude. They click on you all the time. The people who work in the office need proper training. Im so angry that my husband has this kind of a "Doctor". Come on Dr.Chen do something about the issue that everyone is complaining about. read more

Horrible office! DO NOT GO HERE, THEY WILL TRY TO OVERCHARGE YOU EVEN IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE. I had an appt with them today, they told me I needed to pay $300 plus to be seen, as that was the remainder of my co-pay. In their own contract it stated that payment was due 30 days within treatment date, so I asked why I was being forced to pay right then and there, and after a little back and forth with the incredibly unhelpful front desk associate (she said she didn't know why that was in the contract and that I owed $300 to be seen) I gave her my card. She couldn't read the numbers on my card, and asked me to write my credit card number down. I asked her why she didn't just run it through the machine, and she said she couldn't. I asked to speak to the manager, and someone else (not the manager) came out to tell me that I wouldn't be seen without paying the $300 plus. I left because I knew that was not the case. When I got home I called my insurance (which is a PPO), and as a Tier 1 speciality group, they are 100% covered and I DO NOT have to pay anything for their services. My insurance customer service tried to call to ask them why they were charging me anything, and the phone rang until it hung up on her. I told her it took me 3 days to get through to them because every time I called it would ring until it hung up. I should have taken that as a clue and went elsewhere. Bottom line this place is either shady or incompetent in running a basic check for copays regarding PPO's. read more

Very bad attitude, they are not organized, I explained to them how much I suffer from the pain to the point that I can't sleep or walk because I have a severe damage in my back but they careless and they told me they FORGOT to submit my documents to the insurance to get approval to be transferred to pain management AND THE HUNG UP ON ME. Likely my phone records the conversation and I will have my attorney sue them! read more

I do not recomend this place. They don't answer calls & you will be on hold forever. I been calling to make an appointment. I waited for over 49 min the first time i had to end call due to time frame. I will report this office to my insurance & cancel this referral. No patient should deal with rude client service!!! read more

I wouldn't even leave a star; my appointment was scheduled for 9AM and the doors are currently closed ! I was notified by another employee at another office here in the building that sometimes they don't open until 10AM ! My aging mother had a bad fall and broke her femur pretty badly. Dr. Chen performed the trauma surgery and we couldn't possibly be more pleased with his surgical skills. Where do I start ? I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Chen he's a great surgeon the reason I gave them a start is due to how unprofessional and rude his office personnel is to patients. I'm not sure if he's aware but I hope he reads this review and straightens every one in that office especially his office supervisor. They rip people off by charging $259.00 to fill out medical forms . I'm not sure if her name is Ellen but she's rude and tells her patients if they don't like they don't have to go there . Last time I check clinics need patients in order to stay open so Ellen you might want to work on your people's skills. Thank you Dr Chen I'm very pleased with my surgery but I won't be coming back to your office or referring anyone else read more
