When getting to the top of Holt hill, you will be amazed by the Boston skyline without occlusion. Compared to the breathtaking view at Holt hill, the one at the top of Boston hill slightly disappoints me. It is still an enjoyable walk surrounded by the view of the sunset, but the skyline is missing. You may not get too much out of the elephant rock. Again, overall it is a fantastic place for walking, jogging, and biking.

I've been taking my child to this 27 acre park for six years now. There is a baseball field, tables…read morefor picnics, and a massive, wooden playground wonderland called "Kids Kove". This has bridges, towers, walkways and climbing areas. One part of the park is for younger kids (under three), while the rest seems built for children up to fifth grade. Parents come from miles around to take their children here. Behind Kids Kove is a trail that leads down to a hiking trail along Baboosic Brook. There are boulders in and around the brook, so kids can walk out into the middle of it (the rocks can be slippery though, so be cautious if you try that.) You can't see the road from the hiking trail, and it has the feel of being up in the White Mountains. It's also a great place for adults to take a stroll. There are two bridges that one can walk across. Great place to take pictures. The park was originally named for two wooden bridges that once served the town in Colonial times. (Although the original bridges have long since been replaced by modern ones, the modern bridges do still sit on top of the original stone structures.)

You need to be careful to watch the trail markers, and the Wapack Trail has some very rocky parts, but it's a great hike. Love that there's a gift shop at the top & latrines at both the top & bottom. There's also the escape route that you could walk down the auto road if you needed to. My Garmin said I burned 800 calories. Awesome! Beautiful hike & healthily too.

The Wapack trail (1.4 miles) involves lots of scrambling on rocks and over roots. We hiked on a misty, drizzly October morning. The visibility was not great: all we could see was mist. But coming from the mountain desert, we loved seeing the ferns and the foliage and the huge trees and all the granite. We didn't come prepared with real hiking boots, but our sneakers were grippy enough to handle climbing up the rocks, even in light rain. We enjoyed climbing to the almost-top of the fire tower and admiring the view from above. The informational signs about the raptor migration near the top were neat. Our $12 admission for three people in one car was just right.

Hurricane Irene really took a toll on 20 foot hole. Most of the stream (and much of VT for that…read morematter) was devistated from huge flash flooding and the swimming hole was filled in with mud, silt,and rocks. Some of the locals have been trying to restore the swimming hole by scooping out the mud with buckets. I will update more this summer on this progress.

Fells will always have a special place in my heart. So many trails to choose from. You can do easy…read moreto medium difficulty trails. You can rent a kayak and explore the pond in the center of the reservation. Plenty of spots for mountain biking. Sheepfold Dog Park is where I mostly go so I can hike off-leash with my doggy. It's accessible by T (Orange Line to Oak Grove, then about a 10 minute walk to trailhead), but there are also multiple entry points with parking. Visit Fells year-round for beautiful scenery and a lovely time in nature!

From here you can easily walk right to the waters edge heading toward pickerel rock. I found it to be an excellent place to be alone with your thoughts. The tranquil water and nature sounds were so calming and wonderful! As the sunsets over Spot pond and night falls, it honestly brought tears to my eyes because of how gorgeous it was.

We're in our 60s and needed to stop a few times on the way up, but it was never too steep or treacherous, just a long steady hike. You want bring good hiking shoes with serious treads. No fees. Phenomenal trail!! Definitely in my top 5 fave hikes - especially for the fall colors (my visit was…read morein early October)!! And it's a killer workout too! The view from the top is breathtaking- but not for the faint of heart - I have a fear of heights and it took me a while to work up the nerve to go sit on the edge lol! AllTrails has this trail labeled as "moderate" - but it was insanely muddy and very wet when I hiked it - took me ages and totally wore me out - so in those conditions I'd call it moderate-hard. And also with the rock scrambling at the top - it can be quite difficult. Very steep and especially narrow at the top - can be dangerous if you're not careful. I did a total of 2 miles round trip - it's an out and back trail. In those 2 miles, my tracker showed an 800 foot elevation gain so it's definitely a butt burner. And along the trail there are numerous areas of rock scrambling (some are very steep) and stream crossings during the wet season - get ready to be covered in mud lol! You will definitely need decent hiking shoes - and poles would've been so helpful I think! There were quite a few other hikers around. The trails are very well marked with colorful tree badges - but in some spots between the markers, I needed my trail map bc the ground was covered in leaves and mud and it wasn't as obvious. Once you get to the top of Table Rock, the stunning view will absolutely take your breath away! It's a sweeping vista of the entire forest area with the lake and resort below to the left and the long stretch of road through the park to the right - perfect for taking in all the colorful autumn splendor!! The top is a long, very narrow and flat tableau. It seems pretty stable - but has extremely steep (and deadly!) drop offs either side and no safety rails or fencing or anything so be aware. Drones aren't allowed in the park (according to the State Park website) but someone was flying one and buzzing us closely at the top which made it very distracting and scary unfortunately. Dogs are allowed - there were many on the trail and at the top. Parking is a small dirt lot pull out on the side of the road at the trailhead - Google maps took me right to it (just put in Table Rock Trailhead). It's located in Dixville Notch State Park (you can see my review of that for more detailed info). The park doesn't have bathrooms that I could find. And I think it's free. I didn't see any fee areas and their website doesn't list it as a fee area.
