Located right off of Campus. Feels like an old nursery and when I say that I mean it's not as manicured and posh as the others. However you can find what you are looking for here. Pricing is competitive with other locations in the area. When I arrived two people ask me if I needed any help and told me where to find the house plants, when I asked. Some of the plants needed TLC that was my overall impression when I left. Seeing how I have been to at least 10 nurseries in the past month or so I have a broad array for comparison. Lots and LOTS of trees though if that is what you are looking for but again I think the cost are about the same with all that they are around. I drove by on a Sunday late afternoon, it was around 4:45pm and I saw the gate was open so I made a U turn to check it out. I'm currently into succulents and was glad to see they have it right by the parking lot. Some are labeled which is a plus but some where not. I saw the sign by entrance they close at 5, so I browsed the succulent section quickly (and only the succulents area, no time for other part of the nurseries). 2" are $2.59, 4" are $4.99-$5.99 and gallons are $10.50. Gallons price were good, there are many "heads" in the pot which is what I'm looking for since I make arrangements. The gentleman who works there offered to put my selections on the side while I brows even more. I also see a little green house (super cute, didn't peek in (short on time), but I will defiantly check out what's inside the next time I'm in the area again. Update: One of the gallon pot I've purchased was infected by mealie bug and ants (reason why I took away a star from my previous review). I took care of the ants but mealie bug keep coming back. Worried that it will infect my other plants... I cut the loss after 2weeks. Was very sad because it was my favorite purchase of that visit. read more

To me customer service can make or break my desire to ever return to a business. Especially one that is not really essential to my needs. My hubby and I were looking for milkweed and couldn't find it. We approached the woman at the counter who was helping another customer. I know she saw us, but no "hello" or "I'll be with you in a minute." We waited and waited and waited, I was seriously about to turn around and head to the car and tell my poor monarch caterpillars they get no food! But she finally was finished and we asked her about the milkweed. She pointed over there. That was it. When I mentioned this isn't the milkweed we have she informed me of the type of native milkweed this was, which was actually interesting, but she lacked any personality or really any interest in our business. We bought 3 because we were desperate to feel our critters but I would never return here do to the total lack of acknowledgement. There was an older gentleman watering, he saw me walking around, but he didn't bother asking if I had any questions, or help with what I was looking for. I also noticed so many of the plants, especially the succulents looked to be in awful condition and like they weren't well cared for. I wouldn't do business here again unless it's a last resort. I think it's a mom & pop place which I would love to support but not with the total lack of interest in us or our business. There's a spot just up the street and they are way more friendly and have better quality plants. read more

I pulled up and asked the owner, husband, if they had Western Red Bud. He walked me to where they had 3 left. I took 2 for my yard. Deciduous. So the sun will come thru in the winter time. Native, drought tolerant. Will never get too big. You won't find those at Home Depot. I have not asked about the milkweed for the Monarch butterflies lately. I remember the owner, wife, was working on that years ago. I am grateful for the resource. read more

Went there on a Sunday because we kept driving by and wanted to see what they had as far as plants go. At first I thought it was abandoned. No one in the front and the plants looked like they were dying. I was very disappointed with their plants. Lots of succulents but like I said, his plants looked dead and were over priced. You would think he would put the dying plants on discount but no! The only good thing I found there were pots. Lots of different gallon sized pots that were affordable. I'll stick to going to Lowe's for my plants. read more

Great local fauna and flora, my wife ordered some grasses and they were terrific about calling us and staying on schedule. We are new to the area and they had lots of local stuff that we werent familiar with. They were grat about explaining everything and beyond knowledgeable they were kind and here is something important. they keep there hours. You see we went there on a freezing day - and we went about 10 minutes before 5 on a Saturday. There was no one going out on this cold windy miserable day and we showed up at the last minute and they were open and nice and polite and spent time to explain everything, i never felt rushed. great quality plants and great group of people. read more

Succulents Galore!! I have searched all over for sucs and right here in my own neighborhood is a hidden treasure, a vast variety of healthy plants at fair prices. Irene and John, the owners, provided superb and warm customer service. Their long term family nursery will be my 1st choice to fulfill my newest gardening passion. I went in today to make an appointment for someone to come give us a design on re-landscaping. I was told I would be better off going to the Water Department as "most people don't appreciate the hand designing they do" at Garrisons. No I didn't drive in with my Bentley today so to assume I couldn't appreciate or afford the $450 design cost was outrageous! She never stopped watering her plants while talking to me, nor asked me to come into the office to set an appointment. She was apologetic that they were booked to September, which I indicated was fine with me, she didn't want my business so fine, won't bother with their business again. Have never had this kind of disrespectful customer service before. read more

Remarkable native plant expertise. Design skills totally justify the cost of consultation. Top end quality but approachable.

My husband and I have visited this nursery 4 times now. The first few times we placed some special orders. When we went to pick up something that had come in, they weren't open, even though we visited during their very limited hours. We'd even told them when we be stopping by and no mention that they'd be opening late that day. We won't go back, it's too frustrating when you want plant materials and you aren't sure if they will even be open. read more

I really like this nursery as far as being able to purchase native plants. However, as another reviewer mentioned, it's really hard to guess when they'll be opened. I've gone down a couple of times during their supposed open hours only to find them closed. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews. Home Depot is definitely not better, especially when you looking for so cal native plants. I've stood in Home Depots garden section several times looking for help and leaving empty handed and frustrated. At least here the staff knows what they are selling. read more

Garrison Foothill Nursery specializes in local/native plants that are drought-tolerant. They have an extensive selection, but half the time you come here, it's as if nobody is present to answer any questions or help out. Still, if you're looking to move away from grass and typical water-hogging shrubbery, this is a good place to visit and get some ideas. read more

Garrison Foothill Nursery has helped me save a couple of weak trees, select the proper flora for my yard, install outdoor lighting, take care of drainage problems and maintain my water fountain. This is a mom & pop shop that is in great demand for their knowledge and advice. They are worth waiting for. Garrison Nursery just installed a water-saving underground sprinkling system to go with a Kurapia grass that grows laterally and doesn't require as much mowing. Goes with our Tudor Style home. You ought to see the Princess Trees they planted in my front yard. Glory! read more

Wow!! Horrible! Called on a Saturday to ask them if we can come in tomorrow and they said they would be open. On Sunday- We drove over an hour to get there and got there at opening time. We waited over 30 min for them to open and nothing. We called them and received no call back. We checked back an hour later- STILL not open. What a disregard for people's time. We used Garrison for design and installation of both front and back yards. They are wonderful people to work with. They specialize in drought tolerant plants, but can get anything you want. My front is like an English garden and just beautiful...filled with flowers. The back is similar, but not to the degree. I would highly recommend them! read more

This isn't Armstrong's, or Lowes, so if you're looking for impatiens or the typical English garden favorites, Garrison's isn't for you. Don't expect a eager young sales associate to approach you either. They pretty much leave you alone while you walk around the grounds. But if you need help you have only to ask and you'll get more information than you might need or want. These are serious garden people and they're used to dealing with people who are somewhat knowledgeable about the type of garden they want. There isn't a better place in the area for native, drought tolerant and sustainable plants. read more
