I've only been here once, but I will absolutely be back! Moving to a new city can be overwhelming for a variety of reasons. After having an amazing stylist for the better part of 5 years, I was super anxious to find a salon and stylist in my new hometown. I spent hours looking online and reading reviews before I pulled the plug and made an appointment at Garrett Neal Studio, convincing myself that hair was hair and it would grow back if someone disastrous happened (which it didn't). The location and hours are convenient for me and the prices posted online were in the realm of what I was willing to pay. What to watch out for: 1) If you're a new client, you will be charged a $25 deposit when making your appointment, but know that this goes towards your final service. This policy is somewhat hidden on their website (House Rules) and I've never come across this kind of policy before, despite living in several major metropolitan areas. It's a bit annoying, but as long as you keep your appointment, it works out. 2) This seems to be common in this area, but I'm also not a fan of the "starting prices" service menu that is posted online (especially when the top of the range isn't posted). It seems like there are two factors for this - the stylist's experience and also how much time it takes to do your hair. I would have loved to have known the prices per stylist so that I could know going into my appointment what the total cost would be. When I made the appointment, I wasn't asked what my budget was, which could have helped with this, but having read other reviews of this salon, this seemed to be common. What to be amazed by: 1) My stylist was AMAZING! I actually don't want to share who it was because I want her all to myself (ha!)...but I was paired with Haley. She accommodated my showing up early to my appointment and asked what I wanted done - all I needed was a trim to maintain my style and shape. She was so friendly and jovial in chatting with me throughout the entire process (she will keep you laughing!). She made me feel so very welcome to not only the salon, but to Baton Rouge in general. She also did a fabulous job with my hair and listened to what I wanted! I'm looking forward to going back in a few months for a balayage touch up! 2) The overall service and vibe of the salon was great. The salon was pretty quiet while I was there, so the staff were all have a great time chatting with each other while entertaining their customers with their witty repartee. I was conflicted about how I should review the place, honestly. Anurag really likes coming to Taylor, she does an excellent job with his hair. I worked with Christine and honestly was not super impressed. I have very very thin hair, and usually the hair cut is very quick - just taking off dead ends. I also had my hair colored - took a while and left spots on my forehead. I have nothing against Christine, but she just wasn't my kinds stylist to be honest. All in all, it was a tiresomely long process and I will likely not be back. I really need to go back to Solomon at Bubbles back in VA. The 3 stars are really are for Taylor, because she does an awesome job with my husband's beard. read more

Molly has been doing my hair for the past few years now and I'm never disappointed! She always does an amazing job and practically reads my mind when I tell her what kind of color I want that day. Originally they didn't have any openings until a little over a week later but Garret rearranged the entire days schedule and I had four members of his amazing team (Elise, Tristan, Britney, Molly) working their magic on me. Great customer service, the girl who cut my hair was very sweet. However, I did not get what I asked for. While the cut is nice enough to not hate, I am dissatisfied and would not recommend this salon to any curly haired girls. I have 2b-3a type hair and explained this and the girl who cut my hair said she new how to style and cut this hair type. But she did not. I left looking like a poodle with an 80s do while what I asked for was a trim, layers, and slight thinning out. I left with the bottom layer being about as thin as paper and the top chunky thick. Highly recommend this salon for haircuts. They were very friendly and I felt very safe getting my haircut as they implemented all COVID-19 protocols to all keep clients and workers safe (sanitized chairs/equipment after each client, temp check at the door, 6ft distancing between each hairdresser, required masks, hand sanitizer at front desk, etc). Also, they were able to reduce my time in the salon to 15min by focusing on the haircut only (wetting my hair in advance at home and skipping the blow dry). You can book appointments directly online. They cut men's, women's, and children hair too. I will be back as they took safety and health seriously, which I appreciate! read more

I got my haircut here for the first time on Saturday 11/28. I had been going to a barber who used clippers all over and what I ended up with was too short of a haircut, that was also choppy. Garrett Neal Studio transforms a normal haircut into an amazing experience! I moved to NYC several years ago and frequently hold off on haircuts until returning to Baton Rouge just so I can get my hair done here. The staff is incredible and extremely knowledgeable about their products and services in a way I have yet to experience at other places. My visits here outdo haircuts at top-of-the-line studios in NYC while still maintaining a vibrant and comfortable atmosphere. I'm absolutely in love this salon. I have been traveling on business for the past several weeks and came across this salon as I was visiting a nearby store. The first thing that stood out is the staff looks great and were absolutely welcoming! I walked in and they were extremely nice working me in and even gave me a great referral for a nail salon while I was waiting :). Haley was my stylist and by far she is the bees knees, very honest with her recommendations and does such great work! THEN to top it all off when I came back the next week I called again and the owner personally made sure I was able to get back in with Haley so she could cut my hair the way we had discussed the previous week. I was sold on this place as the best in Baton Rouge at my first visit. I tend to do extremes with my hair and have always been very hesitant of going to new hair stylists. I had tried quite a few with no satisfactory results, but decided to give Garrett Neal a try after reading some reviews. Clinton was my stylist but there really is a huge team aspect to this salon. I felt like I was everyone's concern instead of each stylist tending only to their own client. I was blown away by the atmosphere and upbeat demeanor of everyone working there. Michelle and Garrett are truly amazing people and it shows how much passion they have for their work. Clinton is a hair genius who NEVER disappointed me. I never left unhappy and I got compliments regularly on my hair. I was very sad when I had to move to Washington. I still wish I could've taken them all with me! read more

Absolutely horrible place!!! I spent over $350 for a cut, color, and highlights. Turns out the highlights that I paid for were just the hairdresser pouring toner over my hair which did not evenly distribute through all of my hair so the top part was vibrant and the back part and underneath look like it hadn't even been dyed..... the cut is uneven and butchered.... when I finally got up enough courage to call and ask if y'all could fix it y'all told me that you would not fix it because it was too normal wear and tear and not poor stylist application....... how dare you blame me for something that your stylist did. So now I'm out a ton of money and my hair looks absolutely horrible!! What happened to customer service???? I would not recommend this place to my enemy!!!! Shame on y'all!!!!!!!! I had to give at least one star to write this post but if it was up to me again I wouldn't give you any!!!! Yes, you did try to contact me like a month after this review (to save face) but I had already found a much better place (studio 964) to start the process of fixing what y'all destroyed, for a much better price! I'm working on a job in Baton Rouge for some months without my regular Los Angeles person to go to and had to find someone who would fix the awful color job and weird bangs I got from a different place. I'm a blonde who's going very dark brunette at the moment and the other place left my roots looking copper and didn't blend my layers at all. As soon as I walked in, I liked it! Really friendly, family owned salon with vibrant personalities and the people working there have good hair and nice upkeep as well. 1. Place is bright, clean and busy. Everyone says hello and is friendly even if they're not your stylist. 2. Initially booked all day, they called with an opening from a cancellation on a Saturday. Because they care!! Love it. 3. Color was put on carefully and didn't get stains all over my face. (Why does that happen so much?) 4. Head massage during hair wash was SOOOO GOOOOOOD. 5. I love places that focus on continuing education/techniques & keeping up with the latest trends and products. They know where it's at! Very obvious that they have junior stylists/colorists learning from the pros all the time. Everyone seems happy and confident. Keep up the good work! First time customer and will be back! Walking in, you notice how clean and organized everything is. All of the workers were very kind, polite, and upbeat. The shampoo was wonderful and very relaxing. And then, to the chair. I have extra long, straight, fine, down to the waist hair, so it can be challenging to cut. Past places have either missed a chunk or all of the ends are completely uneven. This salon did a great job fixing my hair after a different Salon (that will remain nameless) gave me a color that I had not asked for. Garrett salon give me a beautiful milk chocolate hair color and I am very satisfied with my results. The cost was a little pricey but definitely worth every penny. Visiting Baton Rouge and was a walk-in today. I had to wait about 45 minutes due to the studio being packed; normally, a wait that long would turn me away. However, the staff was extremely friendly and the wait went by super fast (the complimentary Earl Gray tea didn't hurt, either). Once I got in the chair, my stylist was attentive and gave me the exact cut I came in looking for. The shampoo and styling process afterward was no different, asking what products I typically use and making sure to use similar products they had in the studio. Even with so many people in the studio at one time, my stylist made me feel like I was the only important person there. If you need a haircut/styling done and a little relaxation, this is the place to go! read more

I came in about 2 months ago. I was in the middle of a move/vacation and as a vacationer I fell behind on hair maintenance. Usually I would just suck it up and do what I could to get by until I got back home but I was moving to an unfamiliar area and my hair was growing wild and needed taming. I of course didn't know where to go so I turned to yelp. I just want to say I think I received one of the best cuts of my life. It turned out great and it was very easy to convey to the stylist what I wanted. Though I had a great experience and service, I was disappointed when it came time to pay. I do believe the price was fairly steep and truthfully I'm still disappointed. Since I'm not a regular and I got lucky finding a salon that listened to a passerby I am overall satisfied and if I need a hair cut in BR I will be back. I just wanted to be honest in my review and explain why this wasn't another 5 star. If you're curious about the pricing, give them a call. It wasn't outrageous I just felt it would've been the icing on the cake. read more

BEST SALON IN BATON ROUGE! If you've been looking for a hair salon that has stylists that will listen to you, have talent, and you know you can trust this is it!! I was always someone who hopped around from salon to salon, I've tried just about every salon in Baton Rouge, and Garret Neal is truly something special and unique. You will not find anything else like it. I got an awful haircut at another salon (Air Blow Dry Bar). The stylist did not listen to me, was extremely rude, and gave me a haircut I didn't even ask for. A friend of mine, whose hair is always perfect, is family with Garrett Neal so I asked her for his number. I texted him and asked him if there was anyway he or any of his stylists could help me. He responded immediately and told me he would help me and to come in the NEXT day, which was a Saturday morning and when he was supposed to be off. The OWNER took the time out of their busy schedule to squeeze me in, come in on a day that they are off, and help out. I have never received this level of quality customer service before and don't think I will find it at any other salon. I honestly didn't think there was much he would be able to and just accepted it. I was so wrong. Garrett Neal turned a haircut that I loathed into something I loved. His work made me feel beautiful and confident. Also, it was so refreshing to have a stylist be present with you, listen to you, and make you feel like you are important to them. I cannot thank this salon enough for everything that they have done for me. The staff is absolutely amazing. They are all so genuine, attentive, creative, professional, and extremely talented.
